As an example, every year since its inception in2003, Sharp has received the U.S. EnvironmentalProtection Agency's "Plug-in to eCycling" Award forparticipating in and contributing to collection events fordiscarded electronics. Since the Plug-in to eCycling

program's inception, Sharp has supported more than650 Plug-in events that collected and recycled 15.4million pounds of electronics. In 2007 alone, over 100Sharp supported events collected and recycled 2.25million pounds of electronics.

In January 2008, Sharp, in partnership with Panasonicand Toshiba, announced the formation of ElectronicsManufacturers Recycling Management Company(MRM) in the United States to efficiently managecollection and recycling programs. During its first yearof operation in Minnesota, MRM has collected andprocessed 11 million pounds of end-of-life electronicsproducts, making it the largest program in the state.

In February 2008, we expanded our national CopierToner Recycling Program, which enables business andgovernment customers to recycle used Sharp-brandedcopier, printer and multifunctional peripheral (MFP)toner cartridges sold in the United States at no cost.

ENERGY STARQualified ProductsENERGY STAR is a voluntary EnvironmentalProtection Agency program to promote energy efficientproducts. ENERGY STAR qualified models are thosewith advanced technologies which use 10-50% lessenergy than the standard products in their categories.Sharp manufactures ENERGY STAR qualified modelsin a wide range of products, including televisions,computers, copiers, printers, monitors, facsimiles, airconditioners and air purifiers. Many of these modelsemploy specially designed and patented technologydeveloped by Sharp expressly for reducing their

energy usage without sacrificing the reliability andfeatures customers expect.

Plug-In to E-Cycling ProgramThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys Plug-Into eCycling program is a voluntary partnership createdto reduce the environmental impact of electronicproducts during their production, use and disposal, TheEPA partners with electronics manufacturers, retailers,

recyclers and government agencies to collect andsafely recycle used equipment such as cell phones,computers and audio and video equipment. Sharp hasactively participated in the program since its inceptionin 2003, and has been recognized by the EPA for itsperformance in this program every year from 2003 tothe present.

Energy Efficient Product TransportationSharp was one of the first members of the U.S.Environmental Protection AgencysSmartWaysm Transport Partnership program. Thisvoluntary alliance establishes incentives for fuelefficiency improvements and reductions in greenhousegas emissions through creating partnerships, reducingunnecessary engine idling, and increasing theefficiency and use of rail and intermodal operations.The EPA recognized Sharps legacy of environmental

In the spirit of building closer ties with the communities inwhich we work and live, Sharp and its employees play anactive role in all types of local efforts.

For example, in New Jersey, home of Sharp's corporateheadquarters, Sharp is a longtime sponsor of CancerCare, Inc., raising money to help people cope with thisdevastating disease. We also contribute to localhospitals and foundations involved in breast cancer andAIDS research.
