Fifteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time In this week’s Gospel, Jesus summons the Twelve and sends them out on mission. Each and every one of us is called to some sort of mission in life and we must come to Jesus to discern what this mission is. For many saints who converted from troubled lives, this mission was made very clear by Christ; in Saint Paul’s case he was literally knocked off his high horse, but for a great many of us this call comes after we spend time in the presence of Christ discerning and listening for his will in our lives. For the Twelve Disciples, their first mission came after they spent a great deal of time with Christ, learning his ways and following his teachings so that they would be prepared for what he had planned for them. It doesn’t matter our age or how great or small we believe ourselves to be, we are great in the eyes of Christ and he is speaking to all of us on an individual level and is calling us to greater conversion so that he can send us out into the world to share his Gospel truths. In this Sundays Gospel, Mark makes it very clear that Christ is not asking us to rely on material goods to bring us to fullness but is instead calling us to rely completely on Him to find our fulfillment. He instructed the Twelve to bring nothing on their journey but a walking stick; no food, no sack, no money, only their sandals and a tunic. I interpret this walking stick as Christ himself, he has prepared his disciples for the journey they are about to make and now he asks them to bring nothing along but a walking stick. This reminds his disciples that he will be with them on their journey, that they must not rely on material goods, but instead rely solely on him for their strength and support. We too must come to Christ and seek him as our strength and support to guide us on our journey through life; let us draw close to Christ and ask him to reveal his call in our lives. Fifteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus summons the Twelve and sends them out on mission. Each and every one of us is called to some sort of mission in life and we must come to Jesus to discern what this mission is. For many saints who converted from troubled lives, this mission was made very clear by Christ; in Saint Paul’s case he was literally knocked off his high horse, but for a great many of us this call comes after we spend

time in the presence of Christ discerning and listening for his will in our lives. Church Contributions If you are tired of remembering to do a weekly envelope (cash or check) for contributions to the church, consider doing a bill payment out of your bank checking account to the church. You can do this weekly or monthly. This will help the church’s finance budgets for when you are out of town on the weekends or summers.

A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar Jesus sent out His apostles without a lot of “things” because THINGS distract. We collect, argue about and protect our “things.” Garage sales only transfer “things”. We even ignore each other because we have “things” to do. What “things” are separating you from your family?
