THE 2015-16 Northern

events desnaon in the Budget

released yesterday

This compared with $25m in

the 2014-15 Budget (BEN 19 May)

Territory budget has seen the

NT Convenon Bureau (NTCB)

receive $500000 less than the

2014-15 budget

Two million dollars was

allocated to the Bureau to market

and promote the NT as a business

events desnaon in the Budget

released yesterday

This compared with $25m in

the 2014-15 Budget (BEN 19 May)

and $17m in 2013-14

This drop was due to two

reasons Tourism NT business

and events execuve director

Suzanne Morgan said the rst

being that Bureau funding had

previously been siloed from the

rest of Tourism NTrsquos but that

NTCB was now a more integrated

component in recognion of the

value of business events visitors

to the NT with addional support

provided in terms of personnel

markeng insights and more

There had also been areallocaon of funding from

all secons of Tourism NT into

infrastructure smulus through

development grants such as the

$475m Tourism Infrastructure

Development Fund (BEN 08 Apr)

Morgan said

Associaon of Australian

Convenon Bureaux (AACB)

execuve director Andrew Hiebl

said the NT government had been

ldquoextremely supporverdquo of the

business events industry and the

budget reected a focus towards

infrastructure through grants

NTCB had the advantage of

being able to leverage Tourism

NTrsquos funding pool and resources

ldquoOverall markeng funds

must ulmately be ed to

infrastructure programs within

the desnaon and therefore

uctuaons in priority between

the two are common

ldquoHowever ulmately AACB is

keen to see healthy year-on-year

increases across the board to

keep Australia compeverdquoCLICK HERE for the Budget

How to ensure your meeting achieves your objectives

MEETINGS are an ecient way toachieve business outcomes so long

as the right planning and forwardthinking takes place Too oftenbusinesses hold poorly-focused

unstructured meetings that wastetime and donrsquot achieve what they setout to do The key is to set out the

meetingrsquos purpose and objectivesfrom the outset and work backwards

to determine how to achieve themYour meeting objectives may

include

bull Coming to a decision

bull Brainstorming ideasbull WIP or status updates

bull Communicating or getting buy-inbull Creating a plan

Once yoursquove determined whatyoursquore trying to achieve considerthe following

bull Who will need to attend thismeeting

bull What documents should be

prepared (eg an agenda) for themeeting

bull What resources or documentswill be needed at the meeting

bull What technology will be required- a projector Internet accessSound What software will you

needbull How much time will you needbull How will you know the meeting

has achieved its objectivesBy examining these factors yoursquore

much more likely to hold a meetingwith purpose and focus that meetsyour objectives and saves time
