Barnesville-Lamar County Chamber of Commerce was responsible for creating the Georgia

As President and CEO of the Georgia Chamber, Chris keeps the organization focused on its

number one priority – ensuring the competitiveness of the businesses and people of our

Marshall T. Hooks

President/CEO

Barnesville-Lamar County

Chamber of Commerce

Where has the time gone? We are already through the first half of the year and have

accomplished many great things. So far this year we have hosted the awards banquet, the

Drugs Don’t Work kickoff, (co-hosted) a career fair at Gordon State College, the Battle of the

Bones BBQ Competition and Festival, teachers’ appreciation breakfasts, and much more. We

have spoken at numerous meetings of civic organizations and recently donated $1,000 back

to local charities to help continue the great work going on in Barnesville and Lamar County.

Last month I mentioned how important history is in our everyday lives and how often we

overlook the sacrifices it took to be where we are at today. Since last month’s publication, I

had the honor of speaking once again with Chris Clark, President of the Georgia Chamber of

Commerce. At the conclusion of our conversation, he sent me several news clippings that

discussed the role the Barnesville-Lamar County Chamber of Commerce played in helping to

establish the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. One of the clippings is on page 9.

Chris will be with us on July 28th and this would be a great time to meet him as well as learn

more about the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and some of the initiatives they are working

on at the state level for business. This is a free event and you have until July 10th to RSVP.
