THE ALIM HIGH SCHOOL BURSARY FUND

INTRODUCTION

Alim High School was started in January 2009 with the first group comprising of 120 students. The school is located off the Nairobi - Mombasa highway, 2km past the Junction on the road towards Machakos town, 44 Km from Nairobi. The school is founded on strict Islamic traditions.Prayers are compulsory and the students learn Islamic Religious Education and Arabic as part of the 8.4.4 curriculum.

ACHIEVEMENT

thOur pioneer class sat for K.C.S.E in 2011 and did very well, ranking 8 Overall amongst schools in Machakos County. We were also among the top 71 private schools nationally. We hope to do even better this year Insha-Allah.

VISION

To be among the top secondary schools in the country.

MISSION

To produce students who qualify to join universities and other tertiary institutions, who are spiritually upright and practising believers an who include the orphaned and those from the less fortunate households.

THE BURSARY FUND

Further to our mission, a bursary fund was launched in 2009 to help bright orphaned and poor students gain quality education with a view to uplifting their standards of living and those of their families.

In 2010 five students were beneficiaries of the fund. Presently 9 boys are being assisted through the fund and it is our prayer that the number will increase each year.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ALIM HIGH SCHOOL BURSARY FUND

(a) To identify and select poor students who have done very well in their KCPE examinations but cannot afford to join Alim High School due to poverty or because they are orphans. The students will mainly be from Muslim slum areas (Majengo, mjini etc.) in urban areas such as Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyeri, Kitui and generally from every part of the country.

(b) To raise funds for the support of the bright poor or orphaned students.(c) To monitor the progress of the students sponsored at School to ensure that

the students are working hard. The Fund may withdraw support if the fund managers are not satisfied with the performance of any of the students.

(d) To organise vacation camps, seminars, courses for the purpose of educating the students in social welfare and giving back to family and the community.

(e) To teach the assisted students that the purpose of investing in their education is that on succeeding they must in turn assist their family members out of poverty and also participate in social welfare activities to help their communities.

STRUCTURE OF THE FUND

Below is an overview of the structure of the fund.

Ÿ The Fund is run by executive trustees made up of the Chair Person nominated by Alim High School, the Director of Alim High School and five Executive Trustee members nominated by the Chairman in consultation with the Director of Alim High School

Ÿ The Principal of Alim High School is the Secretary and ex-officio member of the Fund.Ÿ The Executive Trustee appointed a treasurer from among its members during its first

meeting. Ÿ All persons who contribute towards the fund become members of the General Assembly of

the Fund also known as the 'Friends of Alim High School'. Ÿ The Executive Committee may nominate not more than 15 people to be members of the

General Assembly. The persons shall be nominated for their ability to assist in achieving the objectives of the Fund.

Ÿ All funds are banked in the Alim High School Account (Bursary Account). The Chair Person, Treasurer, the Principal and the Director are the signatories of the account where any three can sign.

The Bursary Fund is operational and we currently have nine students, who need their fees 2012 to be taken care of. We would also like to increase the number of beneficiaries of the fund and it is with this in mind that we humbly request for your contribution towards this worthy and noble cause.

May Allah shower you with blessings for your efforts to empower the less fortunate members of our community and for joining the 'FRIENDS OF ALIM HIGH SCHOOL'..

It is hoped that the initiative will be an example to other leading schools that are at the moment out of reach to the under privileged.

An Appeal for Support for Poor Students and Orphans

The Prophet (S.A.W) said, "When the son of Adam dies, no further reward is recorded for his actions, with three exception:

· sadaqa whose benefit is continuous; or

· knowledge from which benefit continues to be reaped; or

· the supplication of a righteous son."(Reported by Muslim and narrated by Abu Huraira.)

Sponsoring poor students' education is sadaqatul jariah. We appeal for your support and that of your family and friends to sponsor as many poor bright students in the school as possible.
