Perhaps this is an unusual step, but I wanted to get some important messages about our development at Burleigh Waters across the entire Parish at the same time. A constant struggle for me is that I only get to a particular Sunday Mass once every three weeks. Hopefully you will either see or hear this message on the same weekend. Copies of my words will be available after Mass and you can view the message on the Parish Website or through the Parish Facebook from Sunday evening. I sincerely thank our Archdiocesan Communication Office for their assistance in this process. Of importance to this message is the reminder that the cost of the project is not just for a church. There are four major components in the construction which reflect our need for a new physical heart for our Parish: through Parish offices, car park, and the function and meeting facilities. Once again, I wish to place on record that these works will enhance and move forward the running of our Parish. All Mass centres in our Parrish will be maintained; however we will now [once again] have a focal church and centre for our Infant Saviour Parish. Foundation Stone – Next Sunday Indeed, what an important day to recognise not only this development, but also our movement into a new chapter of our history. Yes, your part in this Parish is important, and for this reason, I am looking forward to seeing you at the 10 am Mass and afterwards for the Blessing of the Foundation Stone. It is a day to visibly show our unity as this Parish. To have the Apostolic Nuncio and our own Archbishop with us, reflects the significance of this occasion. Let us give Archbishop Yllana and Archbishop Mark a very warm Gold Coast welcome...[a prayer for fine weather and gentle warmth would be appreciated!] There is ample parking at Marymount and ushers will guide you at all stages. While the walk to the site might frighten some – please remember that buses will take those needing it to the top. For those walking, the Frank Shine Way has the choice of either a ramp or steps. After the blessing of the stone, we will then have morning tea in the Primary School “shed” which is next to the site, and there the formalities will conclude. SUNG EVENING PRAYER DURING LENT Each

Monday at 5.30pm in Infant Saviour Church, Burleigh Heads, during the six weeks of Lent. Over the weeks we pray for the cleansing and healing of our brokenness, acknowledging God as our strength. We pray for Jesus to make us free and for the renewal of God's gifts in our hearts. As we raise our voices in song during this Lenten service of reconciliation we call on God for mercy and compassion as we pray the psalms for peace and pardon for our transgressions.

Archbishop Mark Coleridge invites you to the annual Chrism Mass

Cathedral of St Stephen Wednesday 16 March, 7pm.

A celebration for the entire Archdiocese. All welcome.

LAYING OF THE FOUNDATION STONE FOR OUR NEW CHURCH AND PARISH CENTRE Our Parish will come together on Sunday 6 March for 10am Mass in the Doyle Centre of Marymount. At the end of Mass we will process "up the hill" to the building site and there the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Yllana, will bless the site and lay the foundation stone. Morning tea will follow in the Primary school "shed". This will be the only Sunday morning Mass celebrated in the Parish. [Saturday and Sunday evening Masses will be celebrated as normal.] IF YOU REQUIRE TRANSPORT AND YOU HAVE NOT YET NOTIFIED US, PLEASE PHONE THE PARISH OFFICE NO LATER THAN MONDAY.

The Scrutinies

At Masses over the next three Sundays (the third, fourth and fifth Sundays of Lent), parishes will celebrate rituals called the

"Scrutinies" with adults and older children who are preparing for initiation into the Church at Easter. Some people feel uncomfortable with the word "scrutiny" so the term "rites of healing and strengthening" is sometimes used

instead. The ritual book says that the purpose of the scrutinies is to "heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect" and

"to give them strength in Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life". Every time the sacrament of baptism is celebrated, we are asked, "Do you renounce Satan ... and all his works ... and all his empty

promises?" These are serious questions which need to be given careful consideration and not just answered automatically. And that is what

the elect, those preparing to be baptised at the Easter Vigil, spend much of Lent doing. In the Scrutiny, the power of Jesus over all sin is proclaimed in a litany of intercession. A prayer is then said over the elect asking for their deliverance and strengthening. The celebrant, catechists, sponsors and other members of the community lay their hands on the heads of the elect in an ancient

sign of forgiveness, healing and empowerment. Because the entire community will renew its baptismal promises at Easter, we all take this opportunity to examine our way of life

and ask ourselves whether we are truly living as Christ's disciples, as people of the Gospel. © Elizabeth Harrington, Liturgy Brisbane

THE YEAR OF MERCY

"24 Hours with the Lord" "Mercy is the very foundation of the Church's life"

FRIDAY 4th and SATURDAY 5th MARCH

On Friday 4 March to Saturday 5 March, our parish will respond to the Pope's call to have "24 Hours with the Lord" during

the Jubilee Year of Mercy. All the faithful, especially members of our Burleigh parish, are invited to participate in the series

of prayers and liturgies that will be held at Infant Saviour Church. There will be Sung Evening Prayer, Stations of the Cross,

Adoration and Benediction and the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available, concluding with the celebration of Holy

Mass on Saturday morning, followed by morning tea.

This "24 Hours with the Lord" is an opportunity for all to be fed at the "oasis of mercy" that is our Church.

Sacramental Reconciliation is a way of "rediscovering a path back to the Lord, living a moment of intense prayer and finding

meaning ... (and it will be) for every penitent, a source of true interior peace" [Misericordiae Vultus n. 17]. Pope Francis said,

"Mercy will always be greater than any sin" {MV n. 3]

FRIDAY 4 MARCH

6pm - Sung Evening Prayer / Scriptural Reflection

6.40pm - Holy Hour: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament / Silent Meditation

7pm - Stations of the Cross / Scriptural Reflection; Adoration; Reconciliation

8pm - Benediction and Dismissal

SATURDAY 5 MARCH

8am - Mass and morning tea

person ought to have the awareness that purchasing is always a moral - and not simply an economic - act". Can't find slavery-free Easter eggs in your supermarket? - Did you know that the Easter eggs in Australian Supermarkets might be made with cocoa beans picked by children, many of whom have been enslaved or forced to work in exploitative conditions with no access to education and other human rights? The International Labor Rights Forum estimates that there are 1.5 million children working in the cocoa sector in West Africa. Talk to your local supermarket manager about slavery-free ethical chocolate. It must carry one of these three labels to be slavery free. Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and UTZ. My Will - after you have cared for your

To help you consider this option, a booklet prepared by the Archdiocese entitled Your Legacy of Faith Will Continue is available at the door of the church. Please prayerfully reflect on this option. Our future generations need faith more than ever.

Please donate to Project Compassion and help empower communities in Papua New Guinea to lead their own development and create more harmonious futures.
