Have you visited the BUPS veggie garden recently? If not, make sure you do, as there has been plenty of action with mulching and planting of winter veggie seedlings, digging for worms, collecting snails and caring for the chickens, along with two new residents. Can you guess who they might be? If not, drop by and find out. They love a pat!

Every Wednesday lunch time, weather permitting, BUPS Garden Club takes place. It is open to all BUPS students to experience the joy of basic gardening concepts, care for the chooks and if the time is right, eat their own fresh produce. There is always something to do in the garden. It is very much hands on, with students often returning to class with dirt under

their nails and grins on their faces. Parents are very welcome to attend.

Also a reminder to pop your name down at the office if you are available to care for the chickens over a weekend. Your support helps us to provide these great opportunities to our students.

Student Absences from School It is a requirement for schools under the Attendance Guidelines to contact parents/guardians as soon as practicable on the day of a student’s absence. With this in mind, we request that you either call the school or continue to send a Flexibuzz notification if your child will be not be at school. If you are aware of an upcoming absence, this can be entered in advance. We strongly urge families to use Flexibuzz rather than telephoning the school to avoid congesting the phone lines. If you haven’t already downloaded the App, we suggest that you do so as soon as possible. You are able to find Flexibuzz in the App store (iTunes or Play Store) or at flexibuzz.com.au. It is an easy process to download the app onto your phone or any other internet device. This is our way to communicate with families and keep you informed of any changes or updates that you will need to be notified about.eg: evacuations, bush fire alerts, camp arrivals, cancellation of Interschool sport, etc. If you need assistance please come and see either Sarah or Kathryn in the office.

Lost Property We have copious amounts of clothing in lost property. If your child(ren) are missing any items of clothing please come to the First Aid room and look through the lost property, none of the articles of clothing are named.

BUPS Stop & Drop zone All students and their families are invited to join in. A Stop & Drop zone is are a designate space, up to a kilometre away from the school entrance, at which parents are encouraged to drop off and pick up their children. Children then walk, ride, scoot or skate to and from school. This will assist in increasing children’s activity levels and easing traffic congestion around the schools. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children if they wish. Permanent aluminium signage has been installed at these zones.

Your school’s current Stop & Drop zone is: Beaconsfield–Emerald Road the car park at the shops near the Pharmacy. Students can walk along Beaconsfield–Emerald Road to Stoney Creek Road which leads to the school crossing.

It is suggested that students leave the zone by 8.30am to ensure they get to school on time.

This is a Streets Ahead initiative. For more information contact Council’s Active Children’s Officer, Kate Beveridge on 1300 787 624.
