Friendship Garden
From our president. . . Remember when learning something new meant going to the library, pulling out the card catalogue drawer, flipping through the cards and searching for just the right book? I loved (and still do) wandering around the stacks searching for my next book. Books, either print, digital, or audio are something I enjoy everyday, but I must admit the ease of the internet and the plethora of information a click away has sucked me in. Blogs and Pinterest flood me with new places to visit, recipes to concoct, and projects to ponder, but I think my favorite discovery has been podcasts.
In addition to quilting, I enjoy embroidery on 40-count linen. This means tiny stitches (I use a magnifying glass with LED lights!) taking many hours to complete a project. Podcasts keep me happily stitching along. Some of my favorites are: The Quilt Fiction Podcast, TED Radio Hour, NPR Planet Money, Stuff You Should Know, Happier with Gretchen Rubin, GastroPod, Mike Rowe’s The Way I Heard It, A Way With Words, & NPR Ask Me Another. Okay, that is a long list, but I sew a lot and sometimes I listen in the car! The photo is one of my current embroidery projects (linen is 18”X30”), so as you can see, I have plenty of time to listen!
There are so many great podcasts available; do you listen to some you could recommend? Drop me an email ([email protected]) and I will compile a list to share in a future newsletter.
P.S. If you have yet to explore the world of Podcasts and are not sure how to do this, get in touch and I would be happy to help you get started.

Call for Quilts! Habitat Fundraiser
We are collecting small
and lap size quilts for the
Habitat fund raiser at the
quilt show. Visitors
donating $50 or $250 to
Habitat may choose a
quilt as a token of our
appreciation. A number
of members have made
quilts or plan to donate
one. Please let Becky
Windle or Lisa Walker know, at your earliest
convenience, if you are planning to donate a quilt and
its size. We will be hanging them in the Civil War
room on the second floor, so no one has to go down to
the kitchen this year.
Thank you, in advance, for your generosity.

Membership
In January we welcomed our newest members Jodean
Hayhurst and Kathy Nesler. Some of us remember
Jodean, a neighbor of Bobette Robinson, from a few
years ago and welcome her back. Kathy is relatively
new to Georgia and a friend of Lisa Walker.
Please wear your name tags to the meetings and
introduce yourself to those you don’t know.
Any changes in your roster information should be sent
to me. You should be receiving the updated rosters via
email through eBlast from Helga.

President, Janet Schwerzel, called the meeting to order at 10am. She wished everyone a happy new year and thanked everyone for coming. A questionnaire is being passed around to sign up for what kind of pizza you want if you are stay-ing for the sew in after the meeting. Block of the month - Diane Knott handed out the directions for the next step of our round robin and loaded it on her blog. Membership - Ellen Lott introduced two new members and one guest. Programs - Jan Antranikian announced that our mystery guest will present a great program and sign up for Diane Knott’s program, ruler play, is now open. Jan went over the programs for the rest of the year. Quilt Show - Pam Reis and Kathy Schmidt announced that winners from the Cherrywood, Prince challenge will hang at the show. Lisa Walker asked that each member sign up to work the show using sign up genius. Retreat - Bobette Robinson announced that there are still several openings and if you want to go, you need to let her know by midnight January 3rd. Saturday night at retreat is a dress up like a cowboy night. Social - Barb DeBolt announced after some self confusion that the Preview Party for the quilt show will be Thursday, March 7th at 11am at the Osage Room. She asked that everyone participate by bringing a side salad or dessert. Those signed up for the 5 slots making dessert as asked to make them daffodil-like (yellow). A prize will be given for the favorite dessert. A sheet was passed around for sign ups. Sunshine - Gail Straub announced January birthdays and Kathy Schmidt announced that Wendy Blanton’s mom passed away. Challenge - Holly Anderson said that if you have a challenge quilt that isn’t finished, you can still enter it in the quilt show but she needs your entry form asap. Respectfully submitted, Barb DeBolt, Secretary
