““Since a young age, I have been raised in an environment full of dogs and have naturally become captivated by the beautiful warmth of dogs of various kinds. Along with our family member Circle Roni’s achievement as a baby class BIS, the growing number of our bulldog family members(placed from America) has continually been a great joy in my life.
As time passes, I progressively realize that I am no longer separable from living with bulldogs. I have created a home that promotes the wellbeing of our bulldogs and have met several great individuals, who share this same experience, in the process of doing so””. JinWoo Lee.

Interview with Marcel Vissers (NL)
1)When did you start with Bulldogs?
It all started in 2004 when me and my wife Mariska bought our first bulldog, it was just a pet dog but I never knew then that this bulldog would change our lives complete-ly. I always loved the bulldog but from the moment I had one in my house everything changed. I start-ed to study more of the breed and visited dog shows and thought I want to compete at shows some day.
2)Congratulations with the Bulldog of Year 2015 award in the Netherlands with Respect-a-bull Redkick. Was this the result of a carefully planned breeding programme or just a lucky shot?
Thank you very much Theo, I am very proud of this achievement. After his grandmother Multi CH. Tough of Golden van ’t Patdana Home winning Bulldog of the Year in 2010. Redkick became Bulldog of the Year 2015. I don’t think it was a “lucky shot” Re-spect-a-Bull Redkick was from our third litter, and it was a care-fully planned breeding progamm
because I like to stay in line. I loved Redkick from day one, he is a super healthy male from two years old with lots of qualities. At his age of two years he already has the following titles: Bulldog of the Year ’15 in the Netherlands, Dutch Junior Champion, Luxem-bourg Junior Champion, Europa Jugendsieger ’15 and Benelux Junior Winner ’15
3) Where does the name Respect-a-Bull come from?
The name Respect-a-Bull comes from the english word “Respect-able”, so i made it Respect-a-Bull. It means Respect for…… Re-spect for the English Bulldog. And I’ll think we have to Respect this wonderfull breed.
4) Name your favorite Bulldog of all times and why?
I’m in the breed since 2004 and of course I know all the legends in the breed, but for me it is so important to see a Bulldog in the flesh. My favorite Bulldog all times is Meljane King William I have had to see him a couple of times in the flesh and I was in love from the first moment I see him.
We had the privilege to have a litter of Meljane King William x Tough of Golden van ’t Patdane Home. We kept 2 bitches who I really loved. Those 2 bitches made us proud. Respect-a-Bull Dark Secrets became Junior World Winner ’15 in Milano and her sister Respect-a-Bull Berry Blush has achieved some won-derful results as well, she won mid-limit class at Crufts ’16 and she has the title Best Bred Bull-dog ’15 in the Netherlands. Both sisters are Junior Champions and they both have lots of qualities.
5) Do you sell puppies, do you have a waiting list and do you sell them with breeding restric-tions
Of course we sell puppies. I don’t breed very often, perhaps 1 or 2 litters a year. I have a lot of interested people but I don’t work with a waiting list. I like to see people and wan’t to learn to know them and see if the are good for our dogs. As you know we have a lot of health regula-tions in the Netherlands. Our dogs have to do an exterior exam, a sort of a cooper test, they have to walk 1 kilometer in 12 minutes
before the test the dogs are tem-peratured, there heartrate will be measured and every 5 minutes after the test they will do this again to see if the dog will recov-er fast. Besides that we have to do a DNA test, a HUU test end a ECVO eye test. And besides that we make X-ray’s from the hips and the Trachea. All our dogs have already had done these test with excellent results.
6) In your opinion where will one find the best bulldogs in the world?
I think at the moment you can find the best Bulldogs in the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy and off course the Netherlands.
7) Why Bulldogs?
What I said before, since my first Bulldog entered my life everything changed. For me there is no dog on earth who has such a special character. I’m the proud owner of ceveral bulldogs on the moment and each of them have there own very special character. They are all so very different and each day I have to laugh a couple of times when they do some special

“tricks”. This is one special breed, we have to cherish this breed!
8) Are you a bulldog judge and where in the world have you judged?
I’m not an official Judge but I have had the privilege to Judge an open show in the UK in 2013, wich I really enjoyed. At the mo-ment I’m studying for Judge in the Netherlands, wich is not easy. I’m in my second year, when I pass my second year I have to do another year of movement and exteriour and then I’m an aspi-rant Judge. After that I have to do some internship by the breed I want to exam and of course that would be the english bulldog, after the internship I have to do an breed exam and when I pass this I’m an FCI recognized Judge. I hope that I can acomplish my breed exam in a couple of years but I think it wouldn’t be easy when you have your work, dogs, dog shows and sometimes pup-pies.
9) Specialist or all rounder judge?
Of course I would go for an breed
specialist. A lot of allrounders really don’t know the breed and judge the dog purely on his move-ment but in a bulldog there is so much more then movement. For example there general appear-ance should be broad and pow-erful, while a lot off allrounders judge them rather standard and thin. Think off the wonderful “Lay-Back” or the typical “bulldog front” his ”hind quarters” etc. etc.
10) Where to from here in your breeding programme?
There are ceveral males with great pedigrees in the world that I would like to use and they will fit perfectly to our bitches. But they will have to gratify the Dutch health regulations.
This will not be easy for me and the stud owner. They have to co-operate and do the tests wich are required for in the Netherlands in their country. At the moment we have Meljane King of the Desert from Spain at our place and he passed all the Dutch and German health tests with excellent results.
We are very pleased of having this wonderful male at our place.
Interview with Marcel Vissers (NL)
And of course he fits perfectly in our breeding progamm. But I think we have some interesting planned litters for the future.
Thank you Marcel Vissers!

This is the first installment......”I’m not sure how easy this is going to be....writing to people in a place I’ve never been, but because you love bulldogs I feel a little bit like I’m at home. We’re far enough removed that I can be honest..Where everyone knows me,
I try to put on my best face and try not to offend anyone. Here at home, you have to be careful not to mention your faith for fear of offending someone. I think I can speak from my heart with you. God is in the middle of any-thing I do. Before I show, judge, breed....I ask God to help me make right decisions, always with the good of the bulldog first.
If I have questions about any-thing, I go to God first. I decided my best mentor was also the cre-ator of the bulldog....smiling. my handling skills all resulted from asking for help.
A little thing like, if you smile if your dog is having a hard time in the ring, will somehow bring con-fidence to your dog and calm will take over.
I’m not sure if it’s me or the dog calming down, but it works.
Do you ever really see your dog? I mean...looking him in his eyes... connect with him. Taking an unruly dog in the ring because no one else would and they needed a handler, was probably not the smart thing to do. It took me a while to realize I was doing some good winning with other people’s dogs. I was building a reputation and I didn’t even know it.
I liked being asked to show dogs at the National show. Whoever asked me first for the next year’s National show was the way I did it. I never charged..never took a dog in because he had a good chance to win.
My reward was seeing a dog shown well and looking good for his owner.....all on a loose lead..smiling....If you’ve heard anything about me, you know you cannot show a dog to me on a tight lead.
Wise words by Doris Boyd
The only thing I require in my ring is a loose lead and a gen-tle hand on your dog. I believe God honors our efforts when we ask for help and then follow his directions. I’ve wanted to say all this for so long and when Theo asked me to write something on education, I said yes but only that which I know works.
Do your best....be an honest exhibitor. Do nothing to your dog that is not allowed....chalking or painting...If you’ve done your work beforehand, you can walk in the ring, pray before you go in...not to win but ask for help to do
your best for your dog.
Win or lose, when you come out of the ring, a smile and a gentle pat for your dog will surly make you look good.
When you win...a “Thank You Lord” just might get you a gentle touch....smiling!
Thank you Doris. we love you!!!

Interview with Linda Dempsey
1) When did you start with Bull-dogs? I bought my first bulldog in 1996 as a companion for my mother, at the time I was showing Neapoli-tan Mastiff, slowly but surely the bulldog stole my heart and the rest is history 2) Congratulations on winning Best in Show with Dillon earlier this year Was this the result of a carefully planned breeding pro-gramme or just a lucky shot?
Dillon is the result of several years planning, his brother Logan was another incredibly successful dog until he was tragically taken from us. Dillon was from a litter of 8. Six of these are in show homes and all six are in group and in show winners. 3) Where does the name Janayin came from?
In Australia we have to submit six (6) names at a time for our pre-fix – my first six (6) were refused, Janayin was the name of a beau-tiful house that I admired
4) Name your favorite Bulldog of all times and why?
Favourite as in the epitome of the breed standard would be OCO-BO TULLY, to me he was all that a bulldog should be, correct size, beautiful type and incredible ex-pression.
Personal favourite, my foundation bitch Bratrice Ice Magic, for with-out her I would not be where I am today, she is behind every one of my successful dogs and today I still see her in my pups, I doubt my bitch line would be as strong as it is without her in it. 4) Do you sell puppies, do you have a waiting list and do you sell them with breeding restrictions?
I do sell puppies, I don’t really breed often enough to keep a waiting list but I do try to stay in contact with fellow breeders to enable me to help people find the best pup for their purpose. Most of my pups are sold as pets on limited register, I do have dogs with trusted breeders, I also have dogs in co-ownership with new breeders and exhibitors to ensure that I can help guide their future.

I believe the best bulldogs are still in the UK 7) Why Bulldogs?
When I was a little girl there was a bulldog that
lived at the end of my street – any time I had the chance I would sneak out to talk to him. My father would never let me have one – instead we had an assortment of hardy little terriers – but I never forgot my first love. 8) Do you prefer to show under a specialist or all rounder judge?
Always the Specialist
Interview with Linda Dempsey

9) Where to from here in your breeding programme?
I have been fortunate enough to obtain semen from Aust CH Portfield Monach, a dog that was imported into Australia in the 1970’s.
He features in the background of all my pedigree’s and I cur-rently have one puppy from a grandfather granddaughter mating to him, to be able to bring back something from a dog that helped shape the breed in this county is like a dream come true, so for the moment I am content to watch her grow and decide which path my next breeding will take, but as always it will be with the intent of producing not only a correct bulldog but a dog that is fit and functional.
Thank you Linda!!!
