GREETINGS FROM THE FRENCH KARATE FEDERATION
On behalf of the French Karate Federation, it is my pleasure to invite you to the 21st World Senior
Karate Championships which will be held from November 21st to November 25th 2012.
The French Karate Federation is proud to host this competition for the 2nd time, it was last held in
France in 1972.
This championship is highly expected by the 225 000 members of the French Karate Federation, whose commitment to this project and involvement as volunteers and spectators during the
competition, will help make a huge success of this event.
This competition is especially important for the French Karate Federation, as it will reinforce the
leading role of Karate in the French Sport movement.
The mythical “Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy” has been chosen to host this prestigious competition. This arena is well known in France for hosting major French sports and musical events, therefore it
symbolizes the greatness of this competition for the “Parisians” and the French community.
We are expecting karateka from all over the world and we are determined to do our utmost to bring
about the best possible conditions to make this competition a memorable occasion.
I look forward to seeing you all in Paris.
Respectfully,
Francis DIDIER
President of French Karate Federation

WORLD KARATE FEDERATION PRESIDENT WELCOMING
The entire WKF waits since long time, with great expectation and excitement, the arrival of big days
for karate in Paris. These wishes are also and without any doubt shared not only by the French Karate
Federation but also by all those that in one way or another take part in the organisation of these twenty first World Karate Championships, that come back to Paris exactly forty years after the 2nd
World Championships of 1972.
In the coordination visit that the WKF made to Paris one year before the event, we have seen the
strong institutional support that the French Federation has been able to agglutinate, as well as the superb facilities that will be offered to the many delegations of the 5 continents. Between them, we
want to highlight the Paris Bercy venue, a splendid stadium that will make possible the celebration of a high standard Championships, and also by the outstanding conditions of the selected hotels.
Finally, I want to thank the President of the French Karate Federation and the whole organizing team for their leadership, their hard work and their commitment to overcome all difficulties and be in
condition to make this huge contribution to the World of Sport, and I also want to congratulate them for their success in having chosen a working team fully capable to face the successful organisation of
this great world event.
Antonio ESPINOS President of the WKF

CHAMPIONSHIPS VENUE: POPB Bercy Stadium
The competition will take place at the “Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy” often abbreviated as POPB
or Bercy Stadium, from November 21st to November 25th 2012.
The POPB Bercy stadium, thanks to its design and modularity is a unique sports and concerts
arena in Paris. Since its opening in 1984, the
POPB has been the designated stadium famous for not only its traditional but also uncommon
sport events, such as atypical “indoor” sports such as funboarding, skiing as well as more
traditional ones (tennis, judo, basket-ball,
gymnastics,…)
It has a seating capacity ranging from 7000 to 17000 depending on the event. For the World Karate Championships, the POPB will be able to
welcome more than 12000 spectators.
From the outside, the POPB can easily be recognized by its pyramidal shape and its walls covered with sloping
lawn. The POPB is arranged around the center hall.
Inside the complex, the competition area is completely surrounded by bleachers. The main hall offers a perfect
visibility from any seating spot due to the absence of
bearing posts on the bleachers.
As a result of its seating capacity, its flexibility and its outstanding skills hosting international events, the POPB
is best suited to host the Karate championships.
