Welcome to Worship at St. Matthew’s December 24, 2017 Good morning! May this time of worship and receiving God’s Word refresh and rejuvenate you for faithful living. Welcome, all! Introduction for the Day: God keeps the promise made to David, to give him an everlasting throne. The angel tells Mary that God will give David’s throne to her son Jesus. She is perplexed by Gabriel’s greeting and by the news of her coming pregnancy, but she is able to say, “Count me in.” We who know that Jesus is called king only as he is executed still find it a mystery hard to fathom, but with Mary today we hear the news of what God is up to and say, “Count us in.” Communion: All baptized Christians who celebrate the real presence of Christ in the bread and wine are invited to the Lord’s Table. Gluten-free wafers are available if you ask your communion server. Those who desire juice instead of regular wine, please tell this to the communion assistant. A Library book has been given to the church library by Leslie & Pat Gardner in honor of their daughter Hillary’s birthday. A donation has been made to the church library by Mark & Elaine Heinrich in honor of Mark’s aunt, Joyce Heinrich and in memory of Donald Heinrich. Today is the 4th Sunday of Advent... and Christmas Eve. Later today, there are three Christmas Eve Services: at 4 p.m., 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. On Monday, Christmas Day, there will be a 10 a.m. service. Worship Service on Sunday, December 31, the first Sunday after Christmas, will take place at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Christopher Manke giving the Gospel message. Year-End Giving Opportunity:El Salvador partners to receive Food Shipment soonMany people in El Salvador face the challenge of food insecurity as a result of poverty, natural disaster, drought, or a combination of all three. The Salvadoran Lutheran Church is fully engaged in developing sustainable ways of combatting hunger, but there are still times when emergency food is desperately needed by families in poor communities. For that reason, St. Matthew’s sponsors regular shipments of nutritionally fortified rice meals to El Salvador, where they are distributed by Lutheran churches. The shipment of this food is made possible by the generosity of St. Matthew’s members. The next shipping container of food is scheduled to leave the US in early January. We are asking for your support once again to cover the $6000 shipping cost for this container of food. Checks should be made to St. Matthew’s with “El Salvador Food” written in the memo line.Thank you for your generosity. The people in El Salvador are so grateful for this buffer against hunger.

It’s a fulfilling, powerful and enriching experience to know that your donation could save lives. Unfortunately, fewer than 5% of people who are eligible to donate actually do. Imagine the lives that could be touched by your gift. It’s a quick, simple and amazing way to give back to the community.
