• Founded in 1968• Largest Latino advocacy and civil rights

institution• Works to improve opportunities for Hispanic

Americans• Five key areas of work: assets/investments,

civil rights/immigration, education, employment and economic status, and health

• Education work focuses on the bookends of education

• Latino 0-8 year olds represent slightly over 25% of all American children

• Latino children accounted for 26.1% of all births between April 1, 2010 – July 1, 2011

• Growth rate for all 0-8 year olds was 2.9% – 37.2% Latinos– -11% Whites– -5% Blacks

• Pre-K is being implemented in 16 states and DC with 48 organizations trained

• In 2009, six Affiliates graduated 720 parents
