To the IRHO Directorship and HCCs:

As another semester began here at Ball State University, I was under an immense amount ofstress as I had an unusual interaction with one of my hall council executive board members. He

had said that he had nominated me for the Student of the Year Award for the IRHO Conference. My initial reaction is that I was greatly pleased that he would think of me. My belief was that

there were a bevy of other individuals who were doing great things on our campus. Later thatweek I was approach by Emma Dennis who said that I had been selected to be Ball Statescandidate for the award. I was greatly honored and was proud that people thought that I was

making a difference on our campus. I finally I achieved a goal that I had put forth for myselfwhen I moved in during the fall of 2009.

Throughout my lifetime I have created a theory of how I liked to work within the world. As Imoved to Ball State I realized that my leadership role as a processor was leading me to find myplace and also the types of things that could be improved on our campus. I set search on

observing everything that I could get involved with over the next couple of years. I becamepassionate about our campus and making it the best it can be. That was it, and as a simple hall

council floor representative, it was time to take a leap into our university stock market. I becamethe yes man and joined any organization that I was able to watch leaders mold into individuals

who could go out into the community and represent Ball State in a positive light. Today I findmyself in contact with amazing people every day and I am so proud to work with a great variety

    of organizations in this university.

Finally, I come to the point that is that all I have ever striven for: To give people the opportunitythat I have had and to be able to share my experiences and help with their development. Being a

Business Administration major I always want to be successful in the business world, but myphilosophy is that everyone needs to stay down to earth and realize what made us what we are

today. I do this by giving back to my community by working within Nappanee ElementarySchool, being an active 4-H club leader, and always being willing to give to any charity that

comes my way. While I am not rich, I find that it is very important to give a little when I can.The people I see around me are an inspiration and keep me enthusiastic in living the life I have.

With that I am truly honored to be thought of as a campus leader and I hope I can continue to

pave the way here at Ball State University. As Marty Cohen speaks about in his videos the glory

and the responsibility are yours. I live by this every day and I challenge you to do the same.Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

    Enthusiastically,

    Tyler Alan Sanders

Each residence hall or complex has a hall council to help governevents and activities. Hall councils are plan regular educational and

social events for their hall, adopt a charity for fundraising or donating

their time to help, and some halls even develop weekend or overnight

field trips for residents to visit other parts of the United States.

~Ball State Housing and Residence Life

I go back and work with the younger children because of

programs like 4-H. Its important to understand that you

were those children once. How can you help them

succeed without looking at your own success first?~Tyler Sanders

"Tyler Sanders is exuberant and very caring of individuals and he takes a lot on himself,

but he's only doing it because he knows that he'll get the job done while experiencing

the process with others. He has a beautiful personality that will get him very far in life."

    ~Janelle Lemish, RHA Vice President

"Tyler Sanders is the best exec member I've ever worked with. When he takes on a job,

he makes sure that he gets it done the best way possible. He tries to make sure

everyone is involved in conversations; he is very inclusive. He treats you like a friend,

not that you're under him." ~Brandon Ferrell, GLACURH 2011 Conference Staff

"Tyler Sanders is very motivated and not scared to take on the work in order to get

things done. He's a very open individual and he's ready to embrace any resident,

especially if that means being able to help them in any way. He is a strong leader and is

a great inspiration to incoming and established leaders alike." ~Jeremy Carnes, RA

When I met Tyler, I was overcome by his positive energy, happy personality, and

gracious spirit. I am proud to say he has become one of my best friends and biggest

confidantes, who I love very dearly. Again, I want to emphasize my sincerity and

honesty in all of these words. If there is one person who should be voted IRHOC

Student of the Year, it should be Tyler Sanders. ~Donelle Henderlong, Resident

"I have only known Tyler for a couple of months, but in that time, I have come to learn

what an amazing student leader he has become. He knows how to balance his

responsibilities extremely well and does the best he can with everything he does,

whether it is being the Baker/Klipple Hall President, a part of the GLACURH 2011

Conference Staff, the NRHH Commitment Chair, or, most importantly, a student. He

never ceases to amaze me with how well he performs all of his different roles, and is

definitely worthy of the Student of the Year award." ~Lauren Moss, NRHH President

Tyler Sanders is the epitome of leadership. He is involved on- and off-campus. He

cares much more about others than he does himself. On a daily basis, Tyler goes out of

his way to help residents with disabilities get ready for their day. If Tylers warm and

inclusive personality werent enough, he has attended every floor meeting and

program, and has even helped me (his RA) set-up and tear down, as well as advertise.

His door is always open, and if it isnt open, you can bet that hes probably at a meeting

learning about how to be a better leader. With all of this on his plate, he is

academically focused with a stellar academic grade point average. It is with great

pleasure and sincerity that I write my testimonial for him in hopes that he is chosen as

Indianas student of the year. ~Bryan DeWitt, RA

Tyler Sanders is someone who puts everyone else before himself. He opens his room

and his heart to make himself approachable and relatable to anyone who crosses his

path. I have worked with Tyler in several leadership positions and have seen thecommitment and dedication he has given each one. There are times I feel he isnt

human because he gives himself whole-heartedly to anything and anyone. ~Emma

    Dennis, NCC/HCC

"Tyler Sanders has a great personality. He's a good friend. He's a very trustworthy

person I feel like I could tell him anything and he has great advice to give." ~Ashley
