British Sign Language is the preferred language for 50,000 – 70,000 of people within the UK and in 2003 was recognised by the UK government as a minority language. BritishSignLanguage.com uses .gifs to demonstrate some of the basics of sign language. Although the descriptions help, the gifs can be difficult to follow. Within the shop there is a CD which requires a PC format and an internet browser. Considerations Mandatory Requirements At the moment the site uses small photographs as a way to keep the size of the site down, so file sizes should be small. Keeping illustrations as simple but as clear as possible would be beneficial. Need to think about how to show movement within one image. Although people who are deaf use sign language, their families and friends also use it so these users need to be considered. Target Audience Deliverables Audiences with either hearing impediments or no hearing at all, of all ages.
