Welcome to Brunswick Reformed Church’s worship celebrations. To make our mutual experience more enjoyable today please: 1. Relax - At BRC you can rest assured that you will not be embarrassed, singled out, or put on the spot. 2. Fill Out a Welcome Card - These can be dropped in the offering plate later. The information won’t be misused, and will help us know who’s been here. It’s also a great way to drop a note to, or request a contact from, a staff member. 3. Ask for Prayer - If you have a prayer concern to share, pick up a prayer request form from the cart in back. Give completed forms to an usher or the pastor before the service begins. 4. Know There Are Options for Children - - The small room in the right rear corner has rocking chairs where little ones can be rocked, quieted or nursed. - We have an excellent nursery for ages 0-3 at the far end of our education wing. 5. Join Us for Fellowship - Coffee and juice are served in the fellowship area after each service. Join us and get acquainted. We do ask that you not take drinks into worship with you. 6. Do Not Feel Obligated to Give - If you are a first-time guest, please do not feel obligated to participate in the offering. This is a time when members and regular attendees honor God by giving to his work through this church. Let today be our gift to you.

7. Give by Text is available. Simply send a text to 330-239-8652 with the amount you would like to contribute. 8. Stop by our Welcome Center for more information about Brunswick Reformed Church! 9. BRC is on the web www.b-r-c.org Who Is BRC? We are a member of the Reformed Church in America, a Protestant denomination that goes back to the Reformation period in Europe when the Church was “reformed” according to the Word of God. We are a mixture of Christians from many denominational backgrounds, all seeking to grow in our spiritual maturity as we live by faith with Jesus as our forgiver and leader. You will find our calling, mission and core value statements on the back of this bulletin.

On Monday night Clayton Murphy won the bronze medal in

the 800 meter race at the Olympics. He is the first American to

win an Olympic medal in that race in 24 years. He has since been

on a whirlwind tour of media events and talk shows. His finish

was a BIG deal!

Who is Clayton Murphy? He’s a farm boy from western

Ohio whose high school was so small they had no football team

and their soccer team was co-ed. He went to the U. of Akron to

major in engineering and to run track, either the sprints or the

mile. His coach saw potential and turned him into an 800 meter

runner. And now he’s an Olympic medalist! He’s gone from a

pig farm in New Madison, OH to being a Olympic hero in Rio De

Janeiro. Quite a journey!

I share this because of the parallel to our passage for today:

Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God;

once you had not received mercy, but now you have received

mercy (1Peter 2:10). From nobodies to royalty; from darkness to

light; from despair to hopeful; from death to life; from sinful to

forgiven; from aimless to purposeful; from sinner to saint. It’s

quite a journey! And if you are a Christ-follower, you are on it.

For Clayton, walking into the stadium during the opening

ceremonies was an amazing thrill, knowing that he actually

belonged on the team. His goal was to make the finals of his

event, but he exceeded even his own expectations and won an

Olympic medal. And he said the most nerve-wracking aspect of it

all was climbing on to the podium and having that medal placed

around his neck. He did not want to mess that up!

I hope you enjoy the thrill of knowing who you are—a chosen

member of God’s team. I hope you keep training well for the

spiritual race we are all running. And I hope you anticipate with

me having this experience on a heavenly podium some day:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have

kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of

righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to

me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have

longed for his appearing (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

The Heidelberg Catechism Question 32

But why are you called a Christian?

Answer. Because by faith I am a member of Christ and so I share in

his anointing. I am anointed to confess his name, to present myself

to him as a living sacrifice of thanks, to strive with a good

conscience against sin and the devil in this life, and afterward to

reign with Christ over all creation for all eternity.

Next week we will begin initiating background checks for all adults

who work with children here at BRC. The authorization forms will

be available next Sunday.

Thank you to all who have provided food for the Raich family.

Dishes are available for pick up on the hallway shelves.
