Introduction BRTS BhopalBHOPAL: The 24-km long Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor in the state capital will have 82 bus stops. The bus stops would be ready by the month of April.

The civic body would carry out the construction of the bus stops under the public private partnership model where the contractor would invest half the total money required for the construction of the bus stop. He would also ensure the maintenance of the bus stop.

Route ClassificationThe routes under this project have been classified into the following four categories.

Trunk Routes:

Connect major activity centers by Bus Rapid Transit System. Farthest Activity center should be accessible within 45 minutes of journey time.

Standard Routes:

Connect major origin & destination pairs of the city. These are replacement of Mini bus routes.

Complimentary Routes:

These are complementary to Trunk and standard routes. Routes covering less dense Public transit demand corridors.

Intermediate Para Transit (IPT) Routes:

These are feeder service to all above mentioned routes, mainly catering intra-zonal trips.

Needs:-

Importance:-

To find out the traffic volume To find out no of busses To reduce traffic congestion To improve the traffic management in the city To popularize public transport and reduce the dependability over private vehicles

Capital investment figures and sources of funding of the Project.

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 121 crore for the revised plan of city's BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) corridor project.

Madhya Pradesh Urban Administration Minister, Mr. Babulal Gaur, was among those who attended the meeting. Mr. Nath also gave information about sanction of the second installment of Rs 171 crore for 20 cities under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns scheme, which is being implemented with Central assistance in 33 cities of Madhya Pradesh.

Sources of funding

1. The State Government has proposed to provide 12,487 square meter land in lieu of railway land being acquired for corridor.

2. The BMC is constructing the BRTS worth Rs 237.76 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehry Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) from Misrod to Bairagarh.
