The luncheon, which is open to members and guests, will feature an interest-ing program and will also include door prizes, intro-duction of new members and the “Aces Wild” Cash Drawing—which currently stands at more than $200. The featured speaker will be Billy Howe, State Legislative Director of Texas Farm Bureau. Howe came to Texas Farm Bureau as an associate legislative director in September 1999. He was promoted to state legislative

director for Texas Farm Bureau in May 2002. Howe monitors environ-mental regulation, prop-erty rights, and water policy issues for Texas Farm Bureau. He also supervises the admin-istrative and legislative staff at the State Legisla-tive Office in Austin. Howe grew up in the

in 1993. Before coming to Texas Farm Bureau, he worked in the Texas House of Representatives from 1993-1999 as a legislative aide and chief committee clerk. Billy and his wife, Courtney have two children–daughter Peyton and son William. This month’s luncheon is sponsored by Brown County Farm Bureau Insur-ance. The 107th Annual Chamber Banquet

Every member of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce is en-couraged to attend the Annual Banquet on April 10, 2012. The celebration will be held in the Coliseum with the Reception at 6:30 PM, dinner at 7 PM and the awards presentation slated to begin about 7:30 PM. According to Chamber CEO Laura Terhune, “The Outgoing Chairman of the Board (Dr. Don Bostic) and I want every member to make plans now to attend this annual celebration.” Terhune continued, “The components of the banquet will be very similar to

last year’s successful event: a Recep-tion will be followed by the Banquet and concluding with Awards Presenta-tions.” Community Service Awards will in-clude the following: Good Neighbors, Community Partner, Business of the Year, Man and Woman of the Year and the Groner Pitts “Lifetime of Service” Award. Terhune noted, “The committee re-ceived positive feedback on the décor and layout incorporated several years ago which features a smaller “center” stage for the actual awards presenta-

tions as well as round VIP tables. She concluded, “Whatever the layout, the evening promises to be an exciting celebration.” The sponsors of the 2012 An-nual Banquet will be sold through the Chamber’s Total Resource Campaign and will be announced in the coming weeks. For more information about sponsoring the banquet or corporate reserved VIP tables, see a Team Mem-ber of the Total Resource Campaign. Individual ticket prices will be $35 per person and can be purchased at the Chamber starting March 1.

The 14th annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit opened on Febru-ary 4th with a reception and awards

ceremony showcasing a wide range of artistic styles and mediums. This year’s exhibit features 130

artistic works selected by juror Terry Morrow out of a record 376 entries. “Viewing the many submitted works was exciting and challenging, as the range of processes and techni-cal skill was broad and the diver-sity of ideas and visual thought was certainly evident,” Morrow said in a statement. “Thus, choosing the entries to be included was indeed a most dif-ficult task.” Awards and cash prizes totaling $6050 were given to 15 artists in a va-riety of categories. This year’s Doro-thy Mays Best of Show Award was given to John Mulvaney of Austin Texas for his acrylic painting called The Grove. The painting is pictured with the artist’s wife Monique Mul-vaney.

Art lovers of all ages may view the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit February 5-17 at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center located at 600 E. De-pot in Brownwood. Show hours are 9am-6pm weekdays, Saturday 9am-4pm, and Sunday 1pm-4pm. Those in attendance may vote for their favorite piece to receive the People’s Choice Ribbon which will be announced February 13th. Paintings that did not make the Stars of Texas Art Exhibit will be featured in the Salon des Refuses at the Art Center located at 215 Fisk Avenue. The Stars of Texas will hold a Paint-Off Competition on Saturday, February 11, 2011 at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center.

In an effort to make bet-ter use of tax revenue, Brown County has contracted, at considerable savings, a new emergency notification and weather warning system. Unfortunately, this will require all Brown County residents (in-cluding those in Brownwood, Early and Bangs) wanting to receive weather warning calls to re-register their information into the new DeltAlert system. To register your information, go

to the Brown County web-site at www.browncoutnytx.org and click on the DeltAlert logo beneath the picture of the courthouse. You will be required to enter an email ad-dress (it need not be an active email address) and password to access the registration pages. If you do not have internet ac-cess, you can register by calling 325-643-1985 Monday-Friday (8:30am-noon & 1pm- 4:30pm) with your information or take

advantage of the computers at the Brownwood Library. The DeltAlert system offers automatic pre-recorded se-vere weather notifications by phone as issued by the National Weather Service in San An-

gelo, Texas. Residents should be aware that such systems are only as good as their supporting telephone database. If you do not register your name/address/phone numbers into the new DeltAlert system, you will not receive calls alerting you of ap-proaching severe weather. DeltAlert gives those who wish to be included an easy and secure method of entering their information into the database and the information will only

be used for emergency notifica-tion purposes. DeltAlert Emergency Noti-fication and Weather Warning services are offered at no cost to Brown County residents and are paid for by Brown County and the cities of Brownwood, Early and Bangs, so, please take advantage of this poten-tially lifesaving service.
