The annual Brownwood Juneteenth Celebration is right around the corner and organizers are planning a full week-end of activities, live music, games, and fun. Activities and events such as a soft-ball tournament, Kiddie Korner, conces-sions, live music and more will be fea-tured on Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16 at Cecil Holman Park (1100

Hall Street) and the Bennie Houston Community Center (505 Cordell). The highlight Saturday evening will be a free live performance by the Rob Hol-bert Band in the Bennie Houston Com-munity Center from 8pm to midnight. For more information, visit BrownwoodJuneteenth.com.

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce is now providing a mobile app (MyChamberApp) that helps consumers find discounts, events, and ser-vices offered by chamber of com-merce members. MyChambe-App provides maps, locations, phone numbers, websites, im-ages, and even videos to help consumers make a shopping decision. The app is available for iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry users for free The Brownwood Chamber is one of the early adopters of this mobile

technology and looks to provide bet-ter service to its members and com-munity.

“Through MyChamberApp, we look to serve our community and con-tinue to help stimu-late local commerce while supporting our members,” said the chamber’s Director of Member Services Missi Malone. “Our new app will be use-ful to local residence

The Chamber’s Monthly Luncheon will be Friday, June 15 at the Brown-wood Country Club from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. The luncheon, which is open to members and guests, will feature an interesting program and will also include door prizes, introduction of new mem-bers and the new “Aces Wild” Cash Drawing—which features a guaranteed winner each month. This month’s luncheon is sponsored

by Bruner Auto Group. Door prizes will be provided by these members: Dazzling Divas, AT & T, American State Bank and Trees Forever Nursery. The cost of the luncheon is $12 per person to be paid at the door. Anyone interested in attending the luncheon is urged to RSVP to the Chamber by call-ing 325-646-9535. Jerry Pittman named Rodeo Parade Grand Marshal

The Brown County Fair Association announced Wednesday that Jerry Pittman will be this year’s Rodeo Parade Grand Marshal. Pittman’s involvement with the Brown County Youth Fair and Fair Associa-tion spans the decades beginning in the

1950’s when he showed ani-mals in the fair. In 1980, he be-gan serving in many capaci-ties including working in the concession stand during Youth Fair and serving on the

Fair Association Board, being elected pres-ident in 1995 and 1996. During his term as president in 1995, Jerry was instrumen-tal in getting the Home Economics build-ing constructed. Mr. Pittman’s involve-ment within Brown County also includes the May Rodeo Association; as a working member and having served as president. He has served on the Zephyr Water Board and Brown County Appraisal Board. Pitt-man was involved in little league baseball for many years as a coach, president of the association and then as a fan for his son’s baseball team. Jerry Pittman was born and raised in Brown County and is the son of the late R.V. and Alene Pittman of Owens, Texas. Jerry was one of four boys who also reside in Brown County – Wayne of May, Texas and Randy and Rick of Owens, Texas. He and his wife Rosanne have been married since 1960 and had four children, Sheryl of Brownwood and Debra of Owens, as well as Jerry Anne and Dustin, both deceased. They also have two grandsons, Derrick Stephenson and fiancé Melissa Sellards, and Cooper Stephenson and wife Vicki of

Ft. Worth. The Pittmans have four great grandsons, Chayden and Cutter Stephen-son of Abilene, and Dylan and Rylan Stephenson of Ft. Worth with another baby on the way. Jerry attended Owens school and gradu-ated from May High School in 1958. He then continued his education at Howard Payne College. After 27 years, Jerry retired in 1988 from West Texas Printing Company then retired again in 2005 after

17 years with the 3M Company. Pittman is a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The 49th Annual Brown County Rodeo Parade will take place on Saturday, June 9th at 10am in Downtown Brownwood. The Brownwood Area Chamber of Com-merce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 22rd for the Brown County Fair Association to welcome them as new cham-ber members. The Brown County Fair Association was established in 1942 and supports the youth in Brown County with the Brown County Youth Fair and the Brown County Rodeo and Dance. The 49th Annual Brown County Rodeo will take place June 7 - 9. Eleven of Brown County Fair Association’s thirty Board Of Directors were present for the ribbon cutting along with Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce ambassadors.

“Starting a Small Business Workshop” Coming June 28 The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Development Center will hold a free “Starting a Small Business Work-shop” on June 28th. This one-hour workshop present-ed by Randy Thomas of the Small Business Development Center will outline how to start a small business. This interactive one-hour work-shop will help prospective entrepre-neurs start down the path to success-ful business ownership. They will

learn: • About financing options; • About laws and regulations for starting a business; • About the business plan writing process; • Accessing local, state and federal resources; and • Where you can get free, one-on-one help to get started

An opportunity for networking will begin at 11:30am and the free

workshop will take place from noon - 1pm in the Bertrand Technology Solutions Meeting Room inside the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce offices located at 600 E Depot. Attendees are welcome to bring their lunch and enjoy an infor-mative workshop as a starting point for opening a new business. Space is limited so pre-registra-tion is required. Chamber to Welcome New Members at Wake up Wednesday

Each quarter the Brownwood Area Chamber hosts a “Wake up Wednes-day” to welcome New Members to the Chamber and to give members and future members the opportunity to network over a hot breakfast and coffee. The first quarter “Wake up

Wednesday”, presented by AT&T, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 13th from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM in the Bertrand Technology Solutions Meeting Room located inside the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce. A hot breakfast is served and new members will be introduced with the
