and establishment of networks and partnerships at the national,

regional, and international levels.

UPI is one of the oldest universities in Indonesia. The University began its existence in 1954 as an institution that trained teacher prospective by the name of PTPG (Perguruan Tinggi Pendididkan Guru) which was converted to the Faculty of Education of the Padjajaran University in 1958. This affiliation did not last long as in 1963 the Faculty was established itself as an independent institution specializing in teacher education and training by the name of IKIP (Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan) Bandung. In its further evolution, in 1999 IKIP Bandung changed its name to Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) which also offered non-educational fields of study. Since 2004 up to the present time UPI has changed its status to a state-chartered university (PT. BHMN).

Internationalization plays a significant role in the development of higher education. To promote internationalization in education as one of the attempts to implement its mission, UPI offers a scholarship for international students to study at UPI in 2011. With a high reputation of its lecturers and consistence improvement of its management system supported by excellent facilities, UPI is ready to meet the challenge of this competitive world to achieve its vision as a leading and outstanding university to enter World Class University (WCU) in Education.

The program is UPI International Scholarship 2011. Through this program the successful candidates will have an opportunity to study some courses relevant with one of the study programs in UPI for one academic semester (6 months period) and take to the of maximum 8 (eight)??? credit hours. These credits are transferrable to meet the requirement for a degree in the candidate's home country. This scholarship consists of 3 (three) months to learn Bahasa Indonesia in the Language Centre of UPI and the other 3 (three) months to study some courses in the relevant study program in UPI.

There will be a quota for 25??? successful candidates for this scholarship scheme. The execution of the program which includes staffing, curriculum, syllabus design, course units, teaching materials and system of evaluation will be carried out by the Language Centre and the Study Programs in UPI.

The scholarship will waive the tuition fee and cover the living cost and immigration affairs. Other expenses such as a return air ticket, passport and visa, insurance and domestic transportation are the responsibility of the candidates. Furthermore, UPI will give assistance to find the right accommodation for the candidates.
