Welcome to our world – where a dynamic mix of young people from over 70 different nationalities come together, enriching our coursework, projects, events, and, simply stated, daily school life.

From the beginning of our school day until time of departure we cross paths in the hallways and staircases and exchange, with such pleasure, small signs of understanding and encouragement. We share open and positive communication. We build relationships. We consider both well-being and learning as equally important.

We are proud of our approaches to teaching and learning, allowing us to include strategies that go beyond the classroom. The journey of discovery includes frequent outings throughout Paris, annual integration trips in selected regions of France and curriculum-based field trips in Europe.

As you leaf through this brochure you will understand how fortunate we are to be part of this truly culturally-diverse community, within Paris, where language acquisition is nurtured, where traditions are valued and shared and where international-open-mindedness is ever present.

EIB-The Victor Hugo School aims to prepare its students within a supportive community for a lifetime of learning through cultural appreciation, global understanding and diversity awareness.

Grounded on strong academic standards that foster intellectual autonomy and critical thinking, our school strives to promote individual endeavor and to enable students to become responsible for their learning.

The success of EIB Paris is largely due to 3 commitments that we make to our students and their families:

An accredited international education that leads all students to the best universities worldwideAt EIB Paris, we welcome students from all curricular backgrounds and nationalities at any given level from Preschool to High School, helping them obtain French and international qualifications and diplomas.

An international environment and a specialization in languagesEvery EIB campus welcomes students and teachers from all around the world. Thanks to our exclusive language programs and over 60 years of experience in bilingual education, we offer as of preschool outstanding language instruction in English and in French, and at least one additional language as of Middle School.

Customized teachingEIB Paris adapts its teaching to each student’s educational needs. We reach excellence through language proficiency groups, immersion programs, differentiated methodologies in Mathematics and unique national and international academic opportunities, as well as individual guidance. We also take advantage of our unique and privileged location in the city of Paris to associate cultural enrichment in our teaching.

OUR MISSION STATEMENTExcellence & Success

“My daughter Horacia joined EIB in nursery school and is today in 12th grade.

For us it was imperative that our child be offered a bilingual education, but public schools did not offer

foreign language instruction at an early age.

EIB provides an openness of mind. Its serious structure and support

in Primary School allow a child to truly develop in Middle School.

Today Horacia has been admitted to Queen Mary in London for matriculation next fall.”

Sofia, Mother of Horacia, 12th grade

“The teachers and staff make utmost effort to accommodate different needs and requirements for

the students ranging from nursery to Grade 12 who are from over 60 different countries with diverse academic / cultural background. It`s not an easy task and their enthusiasm to reach this goal is simply amazing.

We`re so impressed by the fact that our head mistress goes out of her way to come out to escort young children at the morning drop off time! Mme Ponsart is so approachable and always willing to communicate with parents.

For the safety of pupils and also for the security point of view, it`s very sensible that school took prompt action such as constructing the pedestrian pathway, car gate and limit access point etc.“ Ai Kaye Parent Association

We place great importance on our students’ personal development and open-mindedness. For this reason, we have designed a Cultural Program that runs from Nursery to High School, to help them grow and learn beyond classroom work. Just as in other EIB schools, the Victor Hugo School’s educational philosophy is to prepare students for a lifetime of learning though the promotion of multicultural interaction, international understanding and diversity awareness.

To this end, we offer numerous extracurricular activities. We make full use of the Paris area for the educational visits of our pupils, whom we take to a wide range of art galleries and museums on a regular basis. Furthermore, at the beginning of the academic year and as of Grade 1, an orientation and integration school trip is organized, with a variety of activities selected according to students’ age. Not only do these trips, which take place in a new destination each year, allow the children to

discover various regions of France and to broaden their knowledge of French culture, but they also strengthen ties amongst classmates and teachers and encourage team spirit.

Our musical activities also increase their taste for learning and for developing a sense of community spirit. Students are given a chance to discover a musical instrument or to participate in our choir, which meets on a weekly basis. Exciting sports activities are also offered, whether they be individual sports, to foster a healthy competitive spirit between students and encourage them to go beyond their limits, or collective sports, for students to become better team players and build strong ties within their team.

Grounded on strong academic standards and the promotion of independence of thought, the Victor Hugo School’s ethos is to encourage students to take initiatives and to become individually responsible for their own academic progress.

The Victor Hugo School’s college counsellors guide, inform and support senior High School students on all aspects of secondary and postsecondary orientation. They help pupils of all backgrounds and skills find out what they might want to do with their lives and realize their potential after High School. At the secondary level, the counselling team helps each student identify appropriate programs and courses and offers support for a wide array of standardized academic testing involved in university entrance qualification

as well as language proficiency requirements. They provide methodological guidance to both students and their parents throughout the overall application procedures from the initial research stage to completion of all relevant forms and essays, thanks to a step by step, personalized approach, as well as the organization of individual tutorials and collective seminars.

Every year, the counselling center also continuously coordinates in-school university visits, hosts annual on-site college fairs and handles campus tour requests. The counselling services even extend to information and advising about extracurricular development, interview techniques, summer enrichment programs, internships, vocational and career orientation as well as financial aid, scholarships and visa applications. Ultimately, counselling at the Victor Hugo School is about working with families to ensure that present endeavour leads to future excellence.

At EIB-The Victor Hugo School, we believe that international schools should be at the forefront of digital education and we place great importance on the need to adapt to technological advances and the development of e-education tools.

This is why we decided to equip all our classrooms with interactive digital boards and to provide intranet and internet access throughout the school thanks to dedicated computer labs, the libraries and individual machines in classrooms. Computer classes start in Primary school so that students become familiar with the use of new technologies from a very early age and we have even started giving all pupils coding classes.

Finally, the school has launched an ambitious iPad experimentation in order to give pupils access to new technologies and develop eLearning capacities.

Throughout the year, EIB-The Victor Hugo School offers numerous enriching extra curricular and sports activities.

• For Primary & Junior High School Students:Drama ClubChoir / Singing ClubViolin ClubChinese Language courses (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced)Golf / Tennis

• For High School Students:OrchestraDrama & PerformanceChoirFutsalStudent CouncilPre-CAS and CAS activities (Creativity, Action, Service) including, amongst others, ECO Club, Recycling Club, Photo Club, Cooking Club, Dance Club, Chess Club, Debate Club, Theatre, Music, Student Mentoring, UNESCO projects, and offering many opportunities to carry out both national & international service projects.

• For Adults (parents & teachers):French language courses (Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced)

At the end of the year, students can also participate in summer camps organized by the school.

AT EIB-THE VICTOR HUGO SCHOOL,

WE BELIEVE THAT INTERNATIONAL

SCHOOLS SHOULD BE AT THE FOREFRONT OF

DIGITAL EDUCATION.

SPELLING BEE COMPETITION

What do the words ‘tonsillitis’ and ‘zinnia’ have in common? Ordinarily, nothing. Yet these words together took on everything as they were some of the last words which had to be spelled precisely during the remaining rounds of the Paris Spelling Bee (PSB) Finals.

The 2015 finals proved the most challenging with contestants spelling for over 3 hours and reaching beyond 23 rounds! We are proud to announce that two of our own students won first and second

place! Featuring over 20 students from international schools all over Paris, the Paris Spelling Bee Finals also included 4 other top students of EIB from grades 5 and 6.

EIB-The Victor Hugo School believes that such events are a great opportunity for students to support each other and to earn recognition for their hard work !
