The 2007-2013 ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) ROP (Regional Operational Programme) supported and promoted by the European Commission, aims at bringing Emilia-Romagna Region within the excellences of Europe and strengthening the concept of “Emilia Romagna: a region in Europe, with Europe”. Research, innovation, energy and enhancement of natural and cultural heritage are the main themes of the 2007-2013 ERDF ROP. Among the activities of this programme we highlight the Line IV projects for the development of different kinds and offers of sustainable tourism, which aim at creating new opportunities of access and enjoyment of Emilia-Romagna’s environmental, natural, historical and cultural heritage. These projects implemented by public administrations concern the whole region and its tourist products: the Apennine, the cities of art, the Adriatic coast, the spa resorts, the inland villages, the parks and nature reserves including Motor Valley. Thanks to Europe, the tourist offer of Emilia - Romagna is enhanced, by values and services in order to meet the growing international demand for cultural and naturalistic tourism.

This small “guide” introduce you the Line IV.1. 2007-2013 ERDF ROP projects. Follow us, we will lead you to the discovery of the sites enhanced by the interventions and of offers for “dynamic, innovative and sustainable” holidays in Emilia-Romagna.

Have a nice trip!

Emilia-Romagna looks to the future. Thanks to Europe, more culture and nature for the development of a truly sustainable tourism.

Arda and Nure Valleys historical and archaeological sites improvement, especially in Velleia Romana, to develop tourism. In particular: • Turning “alive” and “communicative” an

archaeological site which has a vital role in the North of Italy for its uniqueness and extension.

• Encouraging the number of tourists in this area by promoting interesting places from the environmental point of view (Monte Moria Provincial Park and the Piacenzian Geological Park) as well as historical and cultural venues (Vigoleno and Castell’Arquato historical villages).

Thanks to the “Ex-fienile”(former barn) renovation in Velleia, new spaces and services will be introduced: tourist welcoming areas, coffee-shops, box offices, info points and workshops. Moreover, thanks to a rich network of archaeological “micro-findings” in Velleia and outskirts, new studies and experimental excavations will be carried out. Many working activities will be organised with the possibility of spending the night in Morfasso Hostel or in Velleia city centre.

Val d’Arda archaeological heritage enhancement: Velleia Romana and its surroundings

Piacenza

Places to discover: Velleia RomanaVelleia archaeological site was a protohistoric settlement of Ligurians. In the I century B.C. the Romans turned it into a rich town. In 1747 the so-called “Tavola Alimentaria Traiana” (II century), the most important bronze document of the Roman History, was found in Velleia. The archaeological discoveries testify that this city was an attractive venue for its therapeutic waters (sodium-chloride waters). The city is characterized by elements of a typical Roman city: thermal baths, antiquarium, pistrinum, shops, dwellings, forum, basilica, water well and amphitheatre. During the summer an enchanting festival of ancient theatre representations takes place.

Trebbia ValleyThe Trebbia Valley is one of the most charming and suggestive valley in the territory of Piacenza with its mountains and hills which reach out the fertile valley. It is the ideal place to practice slow tourism and play open-air sports: canoeing, kayak and rafting through the narrow river gorges, golf, cycle-tourism and hiking. The town of Bobbio is the jewel of the Trebbia Valley along with Ponte Gobbo, its cathedral and its abbey founded by

Saint Columbanus in the 7th century. Human presence in this area dates back to the most remote eras. “S. Andrea” Neolithic site is located at the edge of Travo village and is one of the most important settlements in Northern Italy. Do not miss food and wine excursions, as well as visits to festivals and wine cellars where the excellent “Gutturnio” wine is produced.

The Trebbia River and the excellent environmental quality of its surrounding valley are the main tourist attractions of this area. The Appennino Piacentino Mountain Community is working in order to qualify and strengthen the tourist potential attraction of the river, its tributaries and other natural areas (SIC and Natura 2000 areas). Work schedule:• In the Municipality of Travo: Neolithic

Archaeological Park completion and improvement;

• In the Municipality of Ottone: Creation of a parking area with toilets and changing rooms, as point of departure for hiking or canyoning activities;

• In the Municipality of Bobbio: creation of a caravan parking bay, connected to Brugnello, Corte Brugnatella and Pietra Porcellara through several paths;

• In the Municipality of Cerignale: former

military mountain hut renovation and creation of a tourist itinerary;

• In the Municipality of Zerba: redevelopment and improvement of natural itineraries;

• In the Municipality of Piazzano: caravan parking bay with related facilities;

• In the Municipality of Cortebrugnatella: renovation and development of the canoe centre and creation of a nearby caravan parking bay;

• In the Municipality of Coli: creation of a public leisure area along Perino stream; creation of a bicycle and walking path.

XXParmaThe aim of the activities is to guarantee an overall improvement of the Bardi fortress – the second biggest fortress in Europe and one of the symbols of the Parma Apennines - through structured interventions which allow the renovation of some spaces today unaccessible to visitors. All this will be made possible thanks to the reinforcement and the restoration of the parts of the building which until today have been kept under a worrying conservation condition (especially the coverings and the exterior aspect of the walls). The castle, which hosts thousands of visitors every year, after this planned intervention, will be used as an exhibition centre for temporary or thematic exhibitions, and also for conventions and events.

The building of the former Marchino Furnace – dating back to the beginning of the 20th century and important evidence of the industrial activity of the valley - has been abandoned many years ago and requires today important consolidation, restoration, conservative and rehabilitation works. Many interventions will be necessary for seismic safety reasons and for the reconstruction of the covering, moreover some works will be carried out in order to restore the southern wing of the building, which includes the blast furnaces area, the ovens and the lateritious exposed structures. After work completion visitors will have access to the towers through the balcony, at different levels, and a museum will be settled inside of the tower. This rehabilitation is part of a big urban redevelopment project promoted by the Municipality of Berceto in order to restore the local area of Ghiare.

The project concerns the consolidation, the restoration and the stopping of the deterioration stages of Saint Liborio Chapel, inside the Palace of Colorno, one of the most beautiful examples of Parma’s artistical excellence of the 18th century. Many works will be carried out such as the replacement of the covering surfaces, the restoration of the Church facades and of the historical building facing the Church courtyard, as well as the renovation of the church courtyard itself so as to allow visitors to have a direct access to those buildings.

excellences of the province of Parma are the car and the bicycle for shorter distances. And what about the most romantic itinerary? For sure that of the castles related to great love stories and passions. In the province of Parma there are many castles, from the Apennines, where the Bardi Fortress stands, up to the plain, along the River Po banks where Colorno Palace dominates. A relaxing stop at one of the

several Spa resorts within the district of Parma is a must-do. A noteworthy visit is represented by one of the Art Nouveau masterpieces in Italy, the Berzieri Palace, a work by Galileo Chini. Do not miss the chance to taste the local specialties, this is indeed the heart of many internationally recognised PDO products such as: Parma ham, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and Culatello di Zibello (a refined variety of ham).

The project concerns the renewal of the pedestrian area of the square in front of Terme Berzieri, with the creation of a new stone surface and of a fountain with moving jets of water as well as, the creation of a new border for the ordinary urban road condition and of a new small square facing the entrance. Moreover, next to the palace, few works have been done in order to create a new green space, with a pedestrian connection towards Corazza and Mazzini Parks, which represent the central area of the thermal oasis and which have undergone important restoration works in the past few years.

Reggio EmiliaThe so-called “Matildica” area represents a unique landscape with great potential for tourism in the province of Reggio Emilia. The integration between the hilly areas and the medieval buildings constitutes a territorial excellence, worthy of being enhanced for tourist and cultural purposes. The project aims at highlighting the landscape and architectural sites of the area, by increasing their aesthetic and functional aspect in order to make them more attractive and enjoyable. This purpose can be achieved primarily through the significant restoration of handiwork, and secondly by creating homogeneity and conveying a coherent idea of Matilda castles network. Interventions concern the Castles of Canossa, Sarzano, Carpineti, Bianello and Magnani Palace, the buildings themselves and their surrounding areas, such as tracks, paths, open spaces and rest areas.

A massive fortification system protected the feudal state that the Countess Matilda of Canossa used to rule between the 11th and 12th century. The origin of these castles goes back to the Attonidi family, who Matilda descended from, and who had strengthen, between the River Taro and Reno areas, the northern frontier of their possessions. The defensive structures represented a guarantee of safety but also played the role of a visible symbol of authority. These castles have been destroyed and some of them have been turned into palaces and civil

residences. Today they are an important reference point for events, historical commemorations, local museums and fascinating tourist itineraries to run also on foot. Among the itineraries, do not miss the “Matilda Path” that follows the ancient High Medieval route and which, from the River Enza mouth, led to the heart of the Canossa possession, to the Castles of Rossena, Canossa, Sarzano, Carpineti, up to Toano and directed towards the Passo delle Forbici ridge through the turreted path called “Via delle Scalelle” and down towards the Tuscan possessions.

The historical and cultural heritage is a precious resource on which developing sustainable tourism, particularly in an area where important families and dynasties have ruled and influenced the civil organization. The project aims at the renovation of Renaissance palaces for tourist purposes, for the redevelopment of historical and cultural itineraries. Nowadays these Palaces have become permanent exhibition sites and documentation places of the local history. In fact they represent identity factors of the communities who lived and still live in the areas crossed by the River Po. In these buildings – Principi Palace, Bentivoglio Palace, Gonzaga Palace, Gonzaga and Este Fortresses – the history of this territory has been written. The European financed interventions concern mostly the construction of exhibition itineraries, the setting up of classrooms, the safety of structural and access elements and renovation works of significant architectural value.

The project “Le porte del Parco” aims at enhancing the cultural and environmental heritage of the National Park, in order to give visitors the chance to know and discover the natural and cultural resources of the territory. Interventions concern the heritage, the areas and the buildings destined to become service places and public interest activities. In particular:• Works concerning the construction of outdoor rest areas and itineraries that identify clearly the area of the Park;• The renovation of buildings and the purchase of tourist equipment, both for educational and cultural purposes – such as the “ Water and Energy Atelier” at the Enel Power Plant in Ligonchio; • The setting up of information points for a better knowledge of the area within the existing public facilities of the park.

XX ModenaThe Ducal Park and the Pinewood of Pavullo nel Frignano and the Montecuccolo CastleThe presence of common interest structures, of medieval villages, of a wood heritage with natural, historical, cultural, gastronomic and environmental itineraries, make Pavullo nel Frignano one of the most important centres of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. “Line IV” interventions involve 2 areas: Montecuccolo Castle and the Ducal Park. Montecuccolo Castle is the biggest castle of the area. During the last 30 years it has undergone some interventions in order to restore the building and it is now both a centre for permanent exhibitions and a naturalistic museum; the last interventions concerned fire prevention, the redecoration of the castle courtyard and of the spaces outside the building. Pavullo Ducal Park dates back to the first half of the 19th century. It contains a large

number of botanic species variety, among those the “Pinone”, a monumental Lebanese citron tree. Downstream there is a pinewood which was planted in the period between the two World Wars. The two areas of the pinewood, called Higher and Lower pinewood, are to be upgraded by the creation of paths, a caravan park bay and picnic area.

Sweet and Dynamic Apennines

Monzone Woods, Ponte DiavoloThe scheduled works, in the protected area of Ponte Diavolo between the villages of Pavullo nel Frignano, Lama Mocogno and Polinago, will improve the local woods by introducing new pathways, educational informative panels, a large parking area, and rest points (equipped with picnic areas, informative points and small wood structures to host visiting pupils). Ponte del Diavolo is an impressive sandstone monolith, more than 25 metres long and 2 metres large, and is the result of a natural erosion process of the whole area called “molasse di Monzone”. This natural bridge is a fabulous wonder. The Monzone wood area, where Ponte del Diavolo is located, is characterized by the presence of a network of several paths, crossroads of mule tracks and roadways. Where: Monzone Woods

Bike Park CimoneBike Park Cimone is a theme park dedicated to mountain bike and all its related activities – such as downhill, free ride, 4cross, single track. In 2011 it has been included in the KONA World Circuit of bikeparks. Thanks to the European financed interventions a new equipped area for children called “Happy bike” has been created in Passo del Lupo. Here teachers of Cimone MTB School involve children with basic courses, bike excursions and ability tests. Itineraries in the Bike Park Cimone have different typology, level and duration, and develop on a large area which varies from 2000 metres of height in Pian Cavallaro, to 900 metres of height in Montecreto, passing through Passo del Lupo, Pian del Falco, Sestola, Roncoscaglia, Cimoncino and Lago Ninfa. The most famous area is Pian del Falco, where many international Downhill competitions take place. In Sestola, near

the departure station of the chair lift to Pian del Falco, a Bike Point will be built and equipped with facilities such as parking, toilets, showers, office and a porch. This will be an important centre for bikers as it will provide information and it will manage the organization of events, competitions and courses.

Works on Pio Palace of Carpi made accessible to visitors the most prestigious part of the building through the updating of itineraries and museums, first established in 1898 (Museo del Palazzo and Museo della Città). Pio Palace of Carpi is today the starting point of the Modena Castles Network visit, an important point of attraction of Emilia Romagna Region tourist offer. This network boasts many interesting and charming itineraries, which all have in common the aristocratic manors of the Este lands. The restoration, administration and enhancement

program of the Modena castles, carried out under the local province authority, aims at strengthening the cultural identity of this attractions by creating local tourist welcoming services. The program entails also a promotional and communicative project of a visual coordinated identity system (SIVIC), with technological innovative systems, the introduction of quality standards to improve the welcoming services in the castles and the promotion of the event “Fascinations between the towers”, aimed at a coordinated planning of events and castles visiting hours (this event will take place on the last weekend of September and on the weekends of October).

The activities are part of a larger intervention which concerns both the scientific renovation of Enzo Ferrari’s birthplace, 200 metres far from Modena city centre, and the building of an exhibition gallery which will contain a 200-seat meeting hall, space for seminars and educational activities, a bookshop and a cafeteria. In details, works will entail the creation, in the exhibition gallery, of a space for permanent and temporary exhibitions of motoring and motors culture, of a projection room of audio-visual and multimedia products, a documentation centre with a computerized archive, reading and computer rooms; and outside the building the creation of a green area and a parking. The aim of the project for the building of the Exhibition gallery and the Museum “Enzo Ferrari birthplace” is to reach the same number of visitors of the Ferrari Gallery in Maranello: 190,000/ 200,000 per year.

The Municipality of Maranello has started a project for the redevelopment of its territory in order to enhance the identity and tourist attractiveness of the city. As far as interventions are concerned, one of the most important works is the redecoration of the space surrounding the Ferrari Gallery, which is today used as a parking space and a green area. The redecoration of this space is aimed at enhancing the importance of the city as a meeting point and establishing new functional urban services linked to the most visited museums of Emilia-Romagna. The Municipality of Maranello called in January 2010 a competition which ended in February 2010. The project is a radical change which entails the creation of an architectural work with a sharp geometrical shape (a tower), built with plain contemporary materials in order to match the new building with the Ferrari Gallery and the city. The first redevelopment intervention of Villa Edvige-Garagnani and Parco Campagna is almost completed. The romantic garden of the Villa and the redefinition of the spaces functionality inside the house are meant as valorization works of the whole complex, which is the seat of Parco Giardino Campagna and of the Tourist Information Office (IAT), as well as an excellent cultural centre - seat of important exhibitions, fairs and events - and promotional point of the entire Samoggia Valley territory. The reconstruction standards of the “romantic spatiality” and the creation of alternating vegetable wings have restored the villa’s park dignity of the outdoor area. Moreover, some areas to be used for temporary exhibition structures and for Bologna’s Villas and Historical Landscape Study Centre have been redefined through the creation of an equipped wall, a Wi-Fi access point, of a totem/multimedia and interactive info point.

The construction of the Culture and Sports Palace “Enzo Biagi” has represented the most important economic investment of the last 20 years in the Reno River Valley. This work has been planned and carried out with the aim of providing the area with a multi-purpose facility that can be used both for sports (basketball, volleyball, football) and cultural activities (concerts, dance and theatre events); for this reason the spaces and the construction techniques have been chosen in order to allow a combined use.As far as the construction materials are concerned, particular attention has been paid to the need of inserting the building in a mountain environment: laminated wood has been employed for the structure and painted aluminium plates for the covering. The dedication of this work to Enzo Biagi is the award to a person who was born here.

The intervention, undertaken within an agreement among the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the University of Bologna and the Municipality of Monterenzio, has the purpose of increasing the value of both Monte Bibele archaeological site and important landscape areas, by promoting and guaranteeing the preservation and redevelopment of the archaeological heritage and of the natural environment for cultural, scientific, didactic, social and tourist objectives. It includes:• The protection and promotion of natural and

archaeological heritage;• The integration with the content and the didactic-

scientific activities of the civic archaeological Museum “Fantini”;

• The individualization of an integrated system of play–naturalistic itineraries;

• The building of service and reception facilities necessary to the fruition of the park;

• The promotion of sustainable tourist activities and the improvement and qualification of the area tourist offer ;

• The encouragement to the aggregation with the local community.

Places to discover: Monte BibeleMonte Bibele area represents the most important Italian archaeological complex, and one of the most important in Europe, due to the Celtic civilization. Unique in its genre, it represents the most considerable Celtic example of urban planning, developed on a settlement of Etrurian origin and consisting of different sectors from the functional point of view, a burial ground and two worship places. The excavation works have unearthed house walls, road areas and a big public cistern.

Purpose of the intervention: favouring the connection between the town of Comacchio, the beaches (called Lidi) and the “Valli” (the lagoon) by alternative means of transport, apart from cars. Functional services for itineraries by bike and by boat will be developed. In particular: Creation of an intermodal parking on the Sugar Factory road, in front of San Francesco village, so as cars and caravans can stop and buses travel; Building of a mooring for a tourist boat – with about 100 seats - near Migliarino Canal - Porto Garibaldi; Building of a cycle-lane (about 700 m.) departing from the parking and arriving to the mooring up to the Cappuccini wet dock, connecting in this way the parking to the strategic points leading to the beaches (by river) and the town centre (by cycle-lane); Creation of a pedestrian and cycle footbridge connecting the two sides of the canal.

Comacchio and Mesola: pearls of the Po DeltaComacchio is the most original and charming town centre of the Po Delta Park. Heir to the ancient Spina, fought over by Ferrara and Ravenna, by Popes and Emperors, it has very ancient origins: it was founded at the beginning of the Middle Ages, when the first settlement established itself on a chain of small islands emerging from the Po mouth. Fishing, lagoon fish breeding and salt production were the source of its prosperity. The origin of the name Mesola refers to the term “media insula”. Until the 10th century, this area

Building of the “Museum of Mankind in the Po Delta” and creation of an integrated museum “system” widespread in the area, which is able to “narrate” the historical soul of the Po Delta, ranging from the well-known classic archaeological heritage (Etrurian and Greek treasures) to the high-medieval and modern one. was covered by the sea and only after the gradual advance of the coastline, a land strip had formed. At the end of the 15th century the Este Family bought these lands to transform them into a hunt reserve and build a “delizia” out of town. The castle today hosts the Environmental Education Centre (C.E.A.). Intervention purpose: improving the access to and the use of the area around Sacca di Goro, by enhancing the current itineraries which develop around it, so as to create a controlled “visit-system” rich in itineraries and proposals that users can easily discover. The works involve the area of Sacca di Goro, the beautiful lagoon situated in the southern part of the Po Delta, inside the Po Delta Park Station called Volano-Mesola-Goro, which extends up to the Volano mouth, in Madonnina, Torre della Finanza and Passo Pomposa areas - an extraordinary portion of “Ferrara and its Po Delta” UNESCO site.

Discover the Delta on a boatNavigating in the Po Delta Park is definitely an irremissible occasion to discover and approach this unique environmental area suspended between sky, water and earth. Aboard one of the many slow and silent boats you can sail peacefully the water of the great river, passing by islands and ancient lagoons, while admiring a unique and incomparable landscape. You will learn how to

recognize the different types of herons and ducks, including the characteristic stilt-walker, and finally come into contact with the civilization of the Delta and the marsh. The Po Delta, thanks to its irreplaceable naturalistic, landscape and historical value, is included among UNESCO World Heritage.

Po Delta Park. Classe Pinewood and Cervia Saltworks: creation of natural environmental routes

The “sweet salt of Cervia”Cervia Saltwork, gateway and station of the Po Delta Regional Park, is a very interesting environment from the naturalistic and landscape point of view, and has been included as Damp Zone of International Importance in the Ramsar convention. It is a very beautiful and charming place: populated by rare species such as Flamingos, Stilt-walkers, Avocets and

other protected species. Visits take place along thematic itineraries. Of particular interest is the so-called “productive” itinerary by boat during the hot season, when salt crystals start to deposit. Do not miss the visit to “Camillone” Saltwork, the last example of craftmade multiple harvesting, today part of Slow Food certifications thanks to the excellent quality of its “sweet salt”.

It will be open to the public in 2011/2012 and will tell the millenary history of Ravenna and of the ancient port of Classe, according to the scientific project carried out by a prestigious board chaired by Professor Andrea Carandini.

Ravenna is a precious box of art, history and culture. It has been three times capital city: of the Western Roman Empire, of Theodoric King of the Goths, of the Byzantine Empire in Italy. The basilicas and the baptisteries of the city host the richest heritage of mosaics dating back to the 5th and 6th century and eight of its monuments are included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

This project included the restoration and redevelopment of Lugo’s Este Fortress, the creation of an exhibition area as well as of a route between the market square (Martiri Square)and the central area of Garibaldi, Baracca and Pavaglione squares. The main intervention has been done on the Este Fortress, the most important and characteristic historical monument of the town. Built on a former medieval complex, it was erected between the 15th and 16th century, coinciding with the arrival of Niccolò II D’Este in 1437 and of Duke Alfonso II in 1568. Nowadays the fortress is equipped with three interconnected spaces so as to become one of the most important exhibition areas of Ravenna thanks to its temporary exhibitions, conferences,

studying days, convivial and promotional activities of typical products and events such as “Lugolosa”, “Festa del Cavallino rampante”, “Contesa estense”.

XX RavennaThe historical and architectural heritage that has been preserved and enhanced through this intervention is the central area of Piazza della Libertà and the surrounding areas of Corso Mazzini and Corso Saffi, urban and commercial heart of Faenza, where the concept of “market-city” finds its roots. This intervention had the objective of enhancing the historical monuments, the urban and architectural physical spaces to host events, markets, important exhibitions due to better accessibility and practicability of the area.

Lands of FaenzaThe Lands of Faenza develop in the heart of Romagna. In the middle of them there is Faenza, undisputed capital of artistic ceramics, surrounded by the plain, with finds of the ancient Roman land division, the hills covered with olive groves and vineyards where sangiovese, trebbiano and albana wines are produced, and

finally the Apennines with the Vena del Gesso, a Karst formation of great interest and suggestion. Several are the historical-artistic attractions in these Lands, beginning with Faenza town centre and its MIC International Ceramics Museum, Brisighella and Riolo fortresses, the tower of Oriolo dei Fichi and the ancient Tho church of the 9th century.

The assets involved in the project are the riversides and the areas of the ecological network of the Province of Rimini, in particular the valleys of the Rivers Conca and Marecchia and the strips of the landscape that, from the rivers, go up to the hills through high and middle hill paths. The most important objective is the enhancement of the

area environmental resources, together with the promotion of new sustainable tourism forms for a social-economic development compatible with the landscape preservation and value. This goal will be achieved through redevelopment, transformation and management works, so as to make the natural, historical-cultural heritage of Rimini hinterland accessible to a larger number of users, both residents and tourists. In particular:• construction of infrastructure for inland-coast

development;•networking of the existing assets and excellence

points;• landscape redevelopment and enhancement of

degraded areas with a strong environmental value;

•development of innovative technological satellite systems;

• creation of a coordinated and specific system of signs for cycling tourism and active holidays in general.

Cycling among Valleys and HillsBehind the Rimini Riviera and its famous seaside resorts, there is a fascinating hilly landscape, crossed by valleys, which stretches up to the Apennines spurs. This is the hinterland of Rimini, Malatesta & Montefeltro, the land contended, during the period of the Seigniories, by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta and Federico II from Montefeltro. Everything here speaks of ancient deeds and noble arts: churches, towers, castles and fortified town centres, four of which are considered as the most beautiful Villages of

Italy and four “TCI” Orange flags. A fascinating itinerary to be discovered during a slow bike ride along the winding routes that follow the rivers and the ridges. A journey through the history, nature and taste to get in touch with authentic traditions, to enjoy the specialties that preserved these ancient tastes and sip good wines. It aims at enhancing the site from the historical-cultural point of view by providing the town with a big “Urban Park”, close to the sea and equipped for events and performances. A green area has been created with the opportunity to carry out activities for children (childhood games). The program is also intended to strengthen the integration between the Park and the closest urban “green system” through a series of redevelopment works in the northern coastal areas and through the construction of car parks along the promenade.

The Galli Theatre is located in the heart of Rimini town centre, between the central Cavour square - where there are the medieval Palaces of Arengo and Podestà and the current seat of the Town hall, Garampi Palace- and the Malatesta square - on whose south-western side stands the Malatesta Fortress. The Theatre rebuilding is part of a larger redevelopment project of the architectural heritage, which also includes the renovation of the Malatesta Castle and the rehabilitation of the ancient moat and the elimination of the Malatesta square parking. This intervention includes:• the rehabilitation of an important public building

from the historical, architectural and cultural point of view;

• the destination of the asset for public interest activities;

• the integration of this project with other works that have already been carried out in the town centre, such as the Domus del Chirurgo (Surgeon’s House), or which are about to be completed, such as the rehabilitation of the Castle moat;

• the support and enhancement of the town centre and its activities;

• the supply diversification and the seasonal adjustment of tourist presences, with a new and important proposal for a quality tourism.

The charm of the ancient AriminumNot everyone knows that Rimini is a major art centre, since it is mainly renowned for its beautiful beach and its great hospitality tradition. The history of Rimini goes back to ancient times. It was founded by the Romans in 268 B.C., at the mouth of the River Ariminus (today Marecchia), and the colony was very important due to freight traffic. It had a port and was crossed by three consular roads. Rimini was able to maintain its reference point role for this part of Italy over the years, thanks to the expansionistic and ruling objectives of the local Malatesta Seigniory. The town centre guards several evidence of its glorious past: the Arch of Augustus, (1st century B.C.), the Tiberius Bridge (1st century), the Domus del Chirurgo (Surgeon’s House, 2nd century), Rimini’s XIV-century paintings and the Malatesta Church (XV century), unfinished masterpiece of Leon Battista Alberti, with works by Giotto and Piero della Francesca.
