Sanseong folk liquor(Sanseong makgeolli) is a naturalfermented liquor using underground water from the depthof 182m, following traditional brewing method, withoutany artificial ingredients, which has been selected asKorea No. 1 folk liquor. The origin is not clear but it isestimated that it originated in fermenting malt as a meansof living by slash-and-burn farmers in the early years ofthe Joseon dynasty. The workers who built theGeumjeong Sanseung(Fortress) to provide against Japanese invaders had been placedunder requisition from all the area in the 32nd of Sukjong's reign (1706). They were said tobe deeply impressed with the taste of the makgeolli and miss it even after going back to their

Dongnae Pajeon is a folk food using green onions andseafood, the principal products of the region.
