Summer Extravaganza 2016 will be offering many new and dynamic programs. We hope to create a summertime adventure of discovery, fun, and learning that will build knowledge and enrich your child.

Courses are open to both Canton Public School students and to students from other school districts.

These enrichment courses run Monday through Friday.

Grade levels indicated are for the grade your child will be entering in Fall 2016.

For children who are also attending the Canton Parks & Recreation Explorers Camp at Mills Pond, there will be transportation available (at parents’ expense) to bring children from Canton Intermediate School (leaving at 12:15 p.m.) to Mills Pond Recreation Center. Parents would pick up their child(ren) after camp at Mills Pond.

Course Offerings (Summer Extravaganza 2016)

Summer Jazz Workshop ‘16 (July 18 – July 22) Study with renowned faculty of Jazz Educators/Recording Artists under the direction of John Mastroianni, CHS Director of Bands, and Joyce DiCamillo. The workshop is held from 9:00 am to 3:00 p.m. daily with a concert at Canton Town Hall Friday evening. Registration and more information can be found at

Little Scientists Laboratory

A lab-based science program with a new, exciting experiment each day! Join your friends for a summer full of science fun. All new experiments!

Robotics

Students in Grades 4-6 will build and program the Lego NXT. Then they will create challenges for the robots to compete in. Students in Grades 1-3 will build and program the LEGO WeDo Robots. They will work in partnerships to create their own robots as well.

Let Your Voice Shine Gain confidence singing and harmonizing in small groups featuring both classic and rock style vocals. Sing today’s most popular music from the world’s top performers such as: “Royals” by Lorde, “Human”, “Jar of Hearts” and “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. “When I'm Gone (The Cup Song)” by Anna Kendrick, “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele, and many more to choose from. Piano, Song, Dance

Learn the basics of beginning piano in our full piano lab! Each student will have the opportunity to learn how to play the piano at their own pace. Students will receive individual and small group instruction. This is a perfect start for anyone who has considered learning how to play the piano. In addition, students will have the opportunity to sing and dance to music from around the world. Come be a part of an African drumming circle; learn Native American and Cowboy music from the Western frontier as well as a large collection of folk songs.

Fun with Mother Goose

We will learn many of the beloved and not so common nursery rhymes with art, literature, dramatization, math, rhyming and more! We will make up reasons why Humpty Dumpty was on the wall and even make some food to go with the nursery rhyme!

The Art of Cursive

Do you want to learn the art of cursive writing? We will learn the swirls, the flow, the lines and the artistic way to make the letters fit together into words! Cursive is a wonderful way to write cards, stories, books, essays, poems and invitations just to name of few. It is fun to read cursive and this course will give you a lesson with all the upper and lower case letters and words! We will use pencils, pens, wipe off markers, thin markers to make the magic of cursive appear!

Field of Dreams – The History of Baseball

Explore our nation's pastime. Learn its origins and look at baseball through science, history, books, films, math, poetry and song. Learn about its past and future as well the “art of scoring” as we watch a game and create baseball statistics.

Medieval History

Sieges, trebuchets, and murder holes, raining cats and dogs…what do these words and phrases have in common? They are all part of the world of Medieval History. Travel back in time and design a coat of arms, learn about siege engines, and plan a castle layout that will withstand an enemy attack.

Flea Market Flip!

Cooking for Kids is a hands-on, exciting class where participants will practice and learn kitchen basics.
