Vista Series: Digital Mixing Consoles

Studer Vista Series Consoles

Studer are renowned for their quality and innovations in broadcast equipment, and the Vista range does not compromise on any of the values and philosophy that were instilled with the company when founded in 1948.

The Vista console range provides a solution for all broadcast applications, from OB trucks to large production studios, there is a Vista to suit your needs.

The Vista 1 provides the first small format all-in-one Vista console designed to specifically meet the needs of customers who require a small foot print but do not wish to compromise on quality. Everything you need is contained within the console, the control surface, I/O system, DSP and PSU’s are all in one box.

Available with 22 or 32 motorised faders, 96 DSP channels (including 5.1 surround channels) and its simple to use and navigate Vistonics user interface, the Vista 1 is the ideal choice when space is a luxury such as in OB and ENG vans, small studios or for portable applications.

The Vista 5, available in 22, 32 or 42 fader versions, provides the next level of fixed and/or portable console designed for small to mid-sized OB trucks and studios. Its ease of operation provides users with total control and extreme flexibility as well as comprehensive channel, bus and loudness metering (ITU – BS1770 and BS1771, ATSC – A/85 and EBU – R128).

The Vista 5 utilises Studer’s SCore Live to provide all processing and I/O with the option to provide up to 4000 timeslots for freely routing signals within the core. The

SCore live provides redundancy for power supplies, DSP and the HD link for the console for total piece of mind in mission critical applications.

The Vista 9, the flagship of the Vista family, provides operators with the “next level” of control, flexibility and creativity that should be expected in high end broadcast audio consoles. The comprehensive metering, automation, routing and I/O capability are just some of the advantages with this console.

The customisable frame, available in sizes from 32 to 72 fader strips (in steps of 10) utilises the power of the Vista SCore Live DSP core allowing an I/O matrix of up to 1728 inputs x 1728 outputs which can be configured to the users choice. The SCore Live maintains full redundancy, with redundant power supplies and even DSP card redundancy. In the case of a hardware failure any unused DSP card will take over the processing almost immediately. Further, a redundant link between desk and core is available, as is a redundant communication card.

All consoles in the Vista range feature EMBER support for seamless integration with 3rd-party broadcast or newsrooms automation systems over TCP/IP.

Providing the operators with an efficient and smooth workflow, all of the Vista consoles feature the pristine audio quality, flexible I/O configuration, automation and redundancy that is expected from the Studer name.

Studer VistaMix

Un-scripted multi-microphone live events such as talk-shows, game-shows and discussion boards suffer from both microphone spill and background noise. With each active microphone added to the mix, the overall sound quality deteriorates. The result is decreased intelligibility and unpleasant comb filter effects (phase distortion).

Without Studer® VistaMix automatic mixing, an operator needs to manually adjust all the faders all the time, leaving the microphones of talking participants open, while closing the microphones of silent participants in order to reduce spill and background noise. Due to the reaction time of a human operator this often results in audible fadeins

of people who start talking rather unexpectedly. Also changes in fader positions can quickly lead to disturbing changes of the total ambience/noise level in the mix.

VistaMix Offers the Solution - by mimicking the action of a human operator: Increasing gain for ‘talking’ mics and reducing gain for all others, but very quickly and keeping the amount of total gain constant, a clean live mix can be created. VistaMix also offers the ideal solution for news operations when multiple mics are installed in the studio but the desk operator is not sure which ones will be used. VistaMix switches on only those mics that are in use.

Resource Link: Managed I/O Sharing System

®

Studer RELINK

The Studer range can be integrated easily within the Studer RELINK (Resource Linking) managed I/O sharing system, which can link numerous Studer consoles in various locations of a broadcast facility to allow audio input and output sharing across a wide network.

One of the benefits of the Studer RELINK system in comparison to others is that it is based totally on Studer’s existing SCore platform which is an integral part of the Studer console architecture, so no additional hardware or breakout boxes are required to complete the network. Communicating over TCP/IP with each other, any combination of Studer Vista and OnAir consoles, as well as Route 6000 can connect via RELINK.

RELINK is seamless, scalable, flexible, and can start with a simple connection between two Studer consoles, right through to multi-console systems using a two-step topology where all signals are matrixed through a central device.

Source selection is transparent, and signal labels are automatically transferred to the consuming locations, so the operator always knows what source is connected. Signal takeover between studios is seamless, so RELINK is well-suited for live transmission switchover. A resilient mic take-over mechanism ensures that mic control parameters such as analogue gain, phantom voltage, etc, are not unintentionally changed but require conscious takeover confirmation.

OnAir 1500

The OnAir 1500 – a 12-channel, 6-fader console (expandable to 12 faders), is designed as a flexible hybrid solution for radio broadcasting and production. It’s ideal for studios needing an additional professional grade fader unit and additional I/O or a compact and cost effective mixing console for a production room or studio. Integrated USB playback and record functions make the OnAir 1500 a very compact yet complete mixer.

The Studer Call Management System (CMS) provides broadcasters with total integration of their telephone systems for on air and off air management of callers.

OnAir 2500

The all-in-one Studer OnAir 2500 ensures a new standard in ease-of-use for Radio or TV Broadcast, and is available in both a fixed frame model for portability, or the Modulo version for recessed installation in studio furniture.

Designed as an integrated system – on the Fixed Frame model the control surface, I/O breakout, DSP and controller boards, as well as power supply, share the same chassis – it addresses the medium segment of the live broadcast market including both private and public network stations. Its self-contained architecture without an external core reduces wiring complexity and setup time to a minimum. This makes the OnAir 2500 the ideal audio mixing console for OB applications, where robustness and reliability are a must.

Callers can be prioritised and details entered in for the DJ or talent to be provided with information on the caller including: name, address/suburb and information on the subject of the call all collected by a producer before the call is put to air.

Callers can be screened by a producer or assistant and put into various holding areas, called Waiting Rooms. Here, incoming callers may be held prior to being put on air, listen to hold music, leave messages or be given messages about the particular show, such as ‘the line is now closed, competition is over’ or ‘all lines are busy’.

CMS provides voting lines for polls set up by radio and TV shows, utilising DTMF tones from the caller’s keypad for Yes/No or multiple choice style “vote for your favourite talent” contests. Voting can be done in the background with the DJ or producer only needing to be informed about the results.

Vi Series: Digital Audio Consoles

Soundcraft Vi1

Soundcraft Vi4

Soundcraft Vi6

Soundcraft Vi2

Broadcast AudioWhile Soundcraft’s sister company Studer’s Vista range of consoles is designed to give every conceivable broadcast function and system integration possibility, the Soundcraft Vi Series fulfils an everyday need to make quality productions, quickly, within budget. The compact size and light weight make it ideal both for portable studio applications, fixed production suites or OB vehicles.

The Soundcraft Vi Series uses a derivation of Studer’s patented Vistonics™ technology (Vistonics II™), which makes using the Vi Series easy for in-house or freelance engineers.

Based on a touch-sensitive TFT screen with embedded rotary controls, Vistonics presents a complete set of channel information that the engineer can both see and control simultaneously, removing the need for a central set of menus and pages.

Soundcraft’s patented FaderGlow™ allows the engineer to see at a glance which mode the faders are in, as the fader edges are lit differently. For example, amber for Aux sends, green for groups, red for graphic EQ and so on.

Having such colour-coded schemes is a great advantage when working in low ambient light conditions such as those found in a video-orientated facility such as production studios or OB vans.

The smaller Vi4 is highly suited to OB use, since it has an even more compact footprint (just 1.45m wide and 725mm deep) yet can access 96 inputs to mix with 35

bus outputs. Each input channel has 2 selectable input patches, 4-band parametric EQ, aux and group controls, a compressor and gate.

Eight Lexicon effects engines are assignable to inserts or outputs, while there is also a 30-band graphic EQ on every output.

The remote stagebox connects to the local rack and control surface via a digital snake (either Cat5 or fibre) so can be quickly and easily setup in a live studio. It can be used as an active splitter to feed both a PA and OB mix.

Where long distance feeds are involved, the Vi Series uses single-mode or multi-mode fibre cables to run up to 300m from the stagebox to the console as standard, but can reach distances in excess of 2km using the Optocore network interface.

While the standard audio I/O format is analogue, optional cards provide interfaces for AES/EBU, MADI, ADAT/TDIF, and perhaps more importantly with the advent of HD and surround sound, Dolby D/E decoder and SDI de-embedder/re-embedder .

Additionally, a number of GPIO connections are available to use on fader starts, signalling, etc.

Control 2P

The Control 2P Compact Powered Reference Monitor System combines JBL’s legendary loudspeaker design with powerful amplification to deliver rich, accurate performance for the most demanding audio applications. The compact design, rugged enclosure, and professional feature-set make the Control 2P Compact Powered Reference Monitor ideal for desk-top recording and video production, audio visual presentations, professional broadcast applications, and monitoring of electronic musical instruments.

The award-winning JBL LSR6300 Series professional loudspeakers deliver the exceptional accuracy and performance needed in demanding music, post audio and broadcast applications.

Each model provides ultra-flat response, extraordinary SPL capability and technology to optimize performance in any size production environment. All models are shielded, ready for mounting and THX® pm3T approved.

The LSR6325P-1 powered 5.25” Studio Monitor provides ultra-accurate response and exceptional SPL capability in a very compact form factor. THX pm3® approved, the LSR6325P-1 is ideal for stereo and surround recording, post production and broadcast systems where space is limited but accuracy and high-output are required.

The LSR6325P-1 Studio Monitor combines JBL’s latest in transducer and system technology and incorporates the LSR Linear Spatial Reference design to provide greater accuracy at the mix position. The Linear Spatial Reference (LSR) philosophy is based on a set of design goals that optimise the overall performance of the system in a variety of acoustic spaces. Instead of focusing on a simple measurement such as on-axis frequency response, LSR design requires the system meet frequency-response criteria for seventy-two off-axis measurements.

Carefully-controlled dispersion, achieved through transducer design, crossover frequency selection and engineering of the enclosure, ensures not just the on-axis sound, but also the reflected sound which reaches of the mix position is neutral. By incorporating LSR into the system design the LSR6325P-1 delivers greater high and mid frequency accuracy to the mix position, in a broad range of production environments.

The LSR6328P powered 8” studio monitor is designed for use in critical stereo and multi-channel monitoring applications that require exceptional spectral accuracy and high SPL capability. The LSR6328P combines the latest in JBL’s renowned transducer and system technology with psychoacoustically derived spatial response criteria, resulting in a more accurate studio monitoring reference system. In this

design process, the system’s frequency response over the forward listening range (±15° vertically and ±30° horizontally) is optimised, as opposed to the conventional approach of optimising the response directly on axis. This design approach involved careful component design, selection of crossover frequency, and precise baffle geometry and detail. The result is a system that can be used for the most critical judgements of recording balance, image placement, and equalisation. The matching of the LSR6328P system to the listening environment is further enhanced through the use of RMC, an analysis/correction system that identifies and corrects response to compensate for the dominant low frequency standing wave in the system’s room response. In addition to a rich array of performance features, the LSR6328P has a reinforced enclosure and integral mounting points to facilitate wall mounting. Recessed handles facilitate easy positioning of the loudspeaker in the environment and aid in transportability.

The LSR6332 passive studio monitor is designed for use as a near or mid-field reference monitor, or a soffit-mounted main monitor in applications requiring exceptional spectral accuracy and high SPL capability. The LSR6332 combines the latest in JBL’s renowned transducer and system technology with psychoacoustically derived spatial response criteria, resulting in a more accurate studio monitoring reference. In this design process, the system’s frequency response over the forward listening range (±15° vertically and ±30° horizontally) is optimised, as opposed to the conventional approach of optimising the response directly on-axis. This design approach involves careful component design, selection of crossover frequency, and precise baffle geometry and detail. The result is a system that can be used for the most critical judgements of recording balance, image placement, and equalisation.

Available as a mirror imaged Left and right models.

The LSR6312SP powered subwoofer is based on a 12” woofer with JBL’s patented Differential Drive® and 250 Watts of power. THX® pm3 Approved. METAlliance® Certified.

Innovation through meticulous attention to detail

M2: Master Reference Monitor

Addressing the growing need for high dynamic range and reference-monitor accuracy in a broad range of studios, JBL has developed the M2 Master Reference Monitor: a free-standing, 2-way system that can be placed in any environment to provide an exceptionally accurate monitoring experience. Leveraging a new generation of JBL high-output, ultra-low distortion transducers, the M2 provides in-room frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz, and an extraordinary 123 dB maximum SPL to meet the demanding music, cinema and broadcast production requirements for impactful dynamic range.

In a compact form-factor, the M2 integrates three key components that work in harmony to deliver unparalleled performance. At the heart of the system, JBL’s patented D2 high frequency and 2216Nd low frequency transducers are the engines that make this possible. Using a revolutionary design, the D2 produces smooth, extended high frequency response with ultra-low distortion whether listening at very high or subtle levels. Using patented technology, the remarkable 2216Nd woofer offers deep bass extension and very low power compression, even at its full-rated output. In spite of the M2’s minimal footprint, its exceptional low frequency response eliminates the need for a subwoofer.

The unique Image Control waveguide completes the acoustic design. A marvel of engineering in its own right, this new JBL waveguide was designed specifically for the M2. Allowing an acoustically seamless transition between the woofer and high frequency driver, it produces exceptional imaging and delivers rich detail to a broad area of the room. These unique components make possible a two-way design with an unprecedented level of performance, utilising a single seamless cross-over point that reduces system complexity and allows a compact form-factor for flexibility of placement in the room.

Crown® Power Amplifiers with internal floating-point DSP are used to bi-amplify and tune each speaker, optimising the M2’s performance in any room.

The M2 brings a world-class, big monitoring experience with a new level of accuracy to a broad range of production spaces. For rooms wishing to step up, the M2 is a game changer.

Sensor3 CE Installation Racks

Sensor3 is the foundation for a versatile power system that builds on our proven Sensor™ workhorse system with CEM3 control. ETC’s Sensor3 Power Control Systems are the performance standard for top theaters, TV studios, and concert halls worldwide. Because a complete range of Sensor3 racks are available, smaller venues like schools and community theaters can also afford Sensor3 excellence.

Modularity means configurability: mix and match the modules in the racks according to your particular fixture inventory. Now with Sensor3’s new three-in-one ThruPower modules, you can freely jump from Dimmable to Non-Dim, as well as lock a circuit to a constant hot output override without changing modules. The compact design lets you slide up to 48 modules for up to 96 circuits of 1.3kW, 2.3kW, 3.0kW, 5kW and 10kW dimming in and out of a single Sensor3 rack – without tools!

With CEM3 Power Control, your system is high performance, fast to set up and easy to use! Quickly override levels with console-style number-pad entry. Take remote management even further with Advanced Feature (AF) monitoring by providing circuit-specific information, such as load changes, lamp failures or breaker trips directly to the control console.

Our philosophy at ETC is “zero downtime!” Add the optional backup stations for an easy, ‘off the network’ control backup solution for failure proofing. Additionally, system backup is stored directly in the rack – which means no setup during controller changes – and options are available for secondary USB backups.

Studio HD

Broadcast lighting designers no longer have to compromise when it comes to LED lighting. ETC designed the Studio HD luminaires to generate spectrally balanced white light for high definition uses. The fixtures combine warm and cool white LEDs with five coloured LED emitters to provide Kelvin adjustable white light. And Studio HD arrays give you the ability to vary the tint of your lighting. Easy green and magenta tint control allows for superior colour balancing. The high brightness light produced by the Studio HD luminaires makes talent look great on camera or in person and beautifully renders the colour of sets and clothing. Studio HD arrays mean easy lighting for television and film applications.

Source Four CE LED TungstenAn LED luminaire that perfectly emulates tungsten light

Source Four LED Tungsten fixtures give you the look of tungsten from a highly efficient, low-power LED source. With the soul of a Source Four, the Source Four LED Tungsten luminaires create pure, warm-white light.

Source Four CE LED DaylightThe look of daylight… from an LED source

Source Four LED Daylight luminaires produce beautiful light that mimics natural daylight. They provide the same functionality as other fixtures in the Source Four family, with a low-power, high-efficiency output of cool white light.

Source Four LED Studio HD

The camera loves you when you’re lit by Studio HD.

The more spectrally-complete the white light -- the more finely tuned to the on screen talent, for the highest-quality colour rendition in video, broadcast, and film production. The Studio HD combines impressive light output with the most flexible, variable white light, for more accurate colour performance on camera. The Studio HD’s unique recipe of LED colour blending pleases the most discerning professional.

Studio Tungsten and Daylight

Desire Studio Tungsten and Studio Daylight luminaires feature new, all-white Luxeon Rebel Energy Saving LEDs to create more light with less energy. The emitters are balanced evenly to replicate HMI daylight or tungsten fixtures’ light production, while using only 140 watts of power.

ETC crafted the Studio Daylight arrays with a select range of cool white LED emitters, so the luminaires produce a large quantity of daylight white-light without drawing as much power as HMI fixtures. With a colour temperature of 5,600K, the Studio Daylight fixtures work well with arc-based automated lighting that already has a high colour temperature. Use Studio Daylight luminaires on the set to mimic the beautiful, natural look of daylight.

A stand-in for power-hungry tungsten units at studio applications, Desire Studio Tungsten luminaires combine warm-white emitters to produce stunning, warm-spectrum light. The fixtures use a fraction of the energy needed to run conventional tungsten sources, and can be used wherever you need a fill of warm white colour. Outputting a colour temperature of 3,200K, Studio Tungsten illuminators can be used alongside tungsten fixtures or replace them completely.

For over 40 years Italian manufacturer Spotlight has been supplying quality luminaires to the professional stage and broadcast markets.

The DOMINO 1000 is a modular, asymmetrical floodlight that delivers uniform washes to cycloramas both from above (suspended) or below (as a groundrow). The modular design means the Domino can be configured for use in square, or linear multiple units, where a single element can be independently focused in the vertical plane.

Mechanics

• The shape of the DOMINO 1000 and its exclusive spring locking system allow fast and accurate focusing, both from the stage floor and overhead. The absence of knobs on the sides of the unit allows the source of the light to be homogeneous when several units are used side by side.

Cooling

• The “labyrinth” system used for this equipment allows excellent ventilation of both gels and housing, while ensuring no spill from the body even in the darkest conditions.

Safety

• A wire grid protects the lamp and stops it from falling if it breaks. This grid also ensures that the colour filters cannot suffer from accidental damage. All electrical parts are resistant to high temperatures. The power cable is toughened silicon insulated with flame resistant outer sheathing, according to CEI safety regulations.

Optics: the asymmetrical curve of the reflector has been specially designed to give maximum output and uniformity in the vertical plane. The mirrored sides increase the sideways spread of the light thus ensuring a better colour mix when using adjacent units.

JLX-LITE - The Economical, Flexible Fixed Install System

The Jands JLX-LITE is a lighting bar system that has been designed for cost effective ease of installation in fixed applications such as school halls, clubs, ballrooms and exhibition spaces.

In a neat ready-to-go package, the Jands JLX-LITE features standard 10 amp 240V outlets on one side and optional DMX outlets on the other, making it versatile enough to handle both your conventional theatrical fixtures or moving lights, as well as LED fixtures.

The most innovative feature of the Jands JLX-LITE however is the segregated cable path in the base plate, allowing you to run both power and data along the bar, avoiding electrical interference and guaranteeing compliance with Australian electrical regulations. This ensures your lights behave properly and your safety remains paramount.

A generous distribution of a variety of fixing holes means that the JLX-LITE can be either flush mounted to the ceiling or suspended when using industry standard threaded rod. This helps the bar blend into the room, particularly when you have the options of standard black, or a white that can also be painted into any desired colour.

The Jands JLX-LITE is available in either 2m or 3m lengths with an underhung 48.4mm OD tube, and has a distributed load of 50kg/m (max) or an individual point load of 50kg (max).

The Jands JLX-LITE is designed to be installed by a licensed electrician.

Three module lengths (2.35m, 3.5m and 4.7m) and three outlet densities (low, medium and high) provide for customised solutions using standardised building blocks.

The JLX-PRO features a central load bearing extrusion with aluminium side panels, forming two mechanically and electrically segregated wiring compartments. Top and bottom strut channels accept accessories for fixing to wire ropes, chains, RHS or pipe battens and fixed supports. They are fitted with Jands SB Plates, which allow installation of Extra Low Voltage services on the “reverse” side of the lighting bar.

The Jands JLX-PRO Lighting Bar is designed to comply with the electrical safety requirements of AS3100 and is also designed for use as a lifting beam to AS4991:2004, Classification C2.

The things that make Jands theatrical drapes stand out from the rest can be summarised in four words: elegance, reliability, longevity, safety.

Where other drapes will lose their colour, begin shredding threads or start to become transparent, Jands curtains retain their original look and feel for far longer. Why? Because we only choose the best-quality materials and the colour most suited to your venue, then expertly sew and hang the drapes to ensure they retain their original condition for as long as possible. We take great pride in our ability to design and install theatrical drapes so they have the longest possible life.

All Jands drapes are manufactured with fire safety* as a first priority. We only build safe drapes, and what other kind would you want?

Jands Curtain Tracks, (“JH” Heavy Duty and “JT” Medium Duty) have become industry standards over the past 15 years. The range enables any theatrical or public space to be equipped with a robust and long lasting tracking system. Utilising “JS” accessories, compound curves and very long runs can be easily assembled

*For theatrical drapes, current BCA Regulations require compliance with AS 1530 Part 3 (pertaining to spread of flame and smoke developed indices) and for NSW, additionally, compliance with AS 1530 Part 2 pertaining to the flammability index. Please note that fabrics used for non-curtain wall treatments now require compliance with other standards. Contact Jands for further details.
