British Mills continue to develop amazing textiles, fusing cutting edge designs andsmart finishes with passion and know-how.

Provenance and the celebration of local craftsmanship, the creation of meaningfulfabrics and product manufacture with a powerful heritage story are all gaining

momentum each season as they conquer new grounds. There is a growing interest intrans-seasonal and unisex fabrics where aesthetics are gaining acceptance.

Coating fabrics become a major story from British mills, and are used also for dresses, jackets and skirts. Incorporating pronounced surface patterns, novelty tweeds or

milled flannels, these are sometimes offered with two or three different finishes whichcan transform the appearance of the original offer. Fantasy designs are coming

through in both jacketings and dress weights. Suitings show a more confident colourpalette in both worsted and woollen qualities.

Inspiration for the season looks to our natural history, landscapes and the elements -the ordinary and the extraordinary - and we continue to see the development of

textiles with texture, tactility, surface interest and volume. Natural influence is less rusticthan in previous seasons, although wool, silk, linen and cashmere continue to

be the key fibres.

UK fabric manufacturers lead the way to an exciting season.

May the force be with you …….. we observe a renewed intensity in textile ideas that arestrong and confident in colour, pattern and texture. Designers are developing ideasforged from a free feel for sartorial, sensual expressions, mashed up with well-judgeddesign details. Much care and research focuses on multi-blended yarn innovation, structuring and finishing - which is undertaken with skill and precision. Shades are inky andinclude mid-level darks with deep rich brights and earthy tones: some are mélange whilstothers are solid shades.

An aurora is a natural phenomenon of streaming coloured lights displayed in the sky andparticularly in the high northern latitude regions, caused by the collision of energeticcharged particles with atoms in high altitude atmosphere. The sky is no longer the limit forfabric ideas as we see a trend for exploring boundaries and investigating new possibilitiesand technologies created through this exponential phase of science, technology andtextile creativity. This story is about adding colour to our daily experiences and being joyfuland playful with fabric pattern in an exuberant and exaggerated way. Fabrics balanceboldness and proportion with surprising effects.
