WELCOME TO OUR LATEST ‘WHAT’S GOING ON’ MAGAZINE...“Welcome to our latest “What’s Going on” magazine and I hope you will find the advance yearly calendar useful and keep it for future planning...

2014 has been another great year for our music, highlights being that superb BBC 4 Northern Soul documentary watched by over 500,000 viewers back in July, and then just recently the long-awaited cinematic and DVD release of the Elaine Constantine’s superb film, “Northern Soul”. Both of these things can only be good for the scene and will attract younger audiences, ensuring longevity for the music we all love.

On the broadcasting front, both Kev and myself are now presenting programmes on Solar Radio which can be accessed on Sky channel 0129, or via their website: www.solarradio.com or alternatively get the free app for your phone and listen on the go! Kev broadcasts every Saturday morning between 10am and noon, and you can catch my “Soul Sauce” programme on Sunday afternoon between 4pm and 6pm.

Looking back on American acts who have visited us recently, the pick of the bunch certainly has to be the legendary Chicago trio, The Impressions, who just blew everyone away at the last Prestatyn Soul Weekender... and Spyder Turner was pretty amazing too!

For next March the North Wales venue opens it’s door for four days with over 50 top DJs in five arenas and the first ever visit to the UK from Detroit’s number one blue-eyed soulster, Mitch Ryder plus The New York Northern Soul revue including original members of the Spellbinders and The Invitations. Something to really look forward to.

Other weekenders not to be missed next year include our Springtime super saver event at the Tower Ballroom Blackpool over the early May Bank Holiday when once again we are offering a sensational “early bird” ticket priced at only £15 if you book before December 31st this year.

On the record front, my second “Motown Sevens” box set is now available and selling well, and by the time you read this the “Stateside Sevens” should also be out, containing 14 brilliant Motown memories from the 1963-64 period. We have several others currently in the works, notably a “Capitol Northern Soul” limited edition box set which should see the light of day early in 2015.

On the All Nighter front it’s great to see the return of the Keele All Nighters, you ll see there are two lined up for next year, and on the soul night front we have two “TSOP - The Sound of Prestwich” reunions scheduled for January and May next year.

The magnificent Kings Hall in Stoke goes from strength to strength, with the May “Legends” All Dayer bringing together to DJs from the early days of Northern Soul, and an “all-oldies” All Nighter set for this coming New Year’s Eve, while up in Blackpool we are back at the Winter Gardens this New Year’s Eve, and have big Bank Holiday special All Nighters and All Dayers over Easter and August respectively.
