The yearbook is an annual publication designed to showcase the graduating 3rd year. The book is distributed to Industry

Contacts, potential applicants and visitors to the end of year show. We also use the yearbook as a marketing tool to raise

the profile of the course with feeder colleges and the creative industries. In the light of this the Yearbook is a high concept,

highly visual and professional publication that needs to communicate the practical and conceptual standards of the Fine Art

    programme.

The BriefProduce initial design proposals for the 2012 Graduate Year book that communicates the diverse, creative and professional

quality of the work produced on the Fine Art programme. Your proposals should consider the print and digital delivery of the

publication and further opportunities for the branding and delivery of course related information

    Considerations

    * What do you want to say about the course

    * What do the year group want to say?

    * What makes this course/year unique and how do you communicate this through the selection, organisation and communication

    of content?

    * What is the underlying visual concept and why is it appropriate innovative and current?

    * The message is what?

    * Who will want to know and how will they find out?

    Practical considerations

You have been given a standard square format and the budget is approximately 2 500 (tbc) What production processes, stock

decisions and colour options will best support the communication of your concept. What additional formats could you use (both

print & digital). What other deliverables can you propose?

    Mandatory requirements

The Course, Institutions Name and year of graduation must be clearly presented on the cover and spine of the publication Each

3rd year is allocated an equal amount of space containing samples of work, a personal statement and photograph. The yearbook

should be produced to a standard square format of 210mm x 210mm Additional mandatory content will be discussed with the

Project 4: Will Self/it happened on this dayBackgroundAccording to M. Hunter Hayes, Self has given his reason for writing as follows: "I don't write fiction for people to identify with and

I don't write a picture of the world they can recognise. I write to astonish people."William Woodard "Will" Self (born 26 September 1961) is an English novelist and short story writer. His fictional style is known

for being satirical, grotesque, and fantastical. He is a prolific commentator on contemporary British life. Access to data is so

effective that we are now better equipped than ever to create information that expresses histories in the personal as well as the

    international forum.

The BriefUsing the prologue to Will Selfs novel My idea of fun, consider how best to interpret the project theme. Is it the place in which

the narrator finds himself in, or the imagery he conjures in his imagination that would exist as interesting content, the challenge is

to create a delivery platform that demands the readers attention. It needs to address the norms of information architecture while

actively working to evoke an emotional response from the reader or viewer.

Considerations* What format will the project take?* How much of the text My Idea Of Fun will be used to represent the idea of the event* Will surplus information need to be gathered or will there be snippets taken from the text in forms of quotations?

Project 6: Satanism - a rebrandBackgroundWhen Anton Szandor LaVey shaved his head and created the Church of Satan on April 30, 1966, he knew that soon he wouldbe the focal point of attention for people throughout the globe. Now that the thirtieth anniversary of that fateful night has passed, has the world begun to understand the real meaning behind the only organized religion in history to take as its symbol theultimate figure of pride and rebellion, and to many, of Evil?Dont worry, you who have been fooled into believing the paper tiger displayed by todays media; we Satanists arentafter your children, for they are probably as hopelessly mediocre as their parents. Those who disparage and belittle

the Church of Satan to an obsessive degree reveal their fetish. In reality and practice, by their consuming interest, theyreveal their true religion to bethe Church of Satan. Otherwise, they would turn on their heel, walk away, and refuse tosubject themselves to that which they need not. Clearly, they need us. We dont need them. The BriefSatanism gets a bad rep from the media, remaining neutral, how can you better put across their views and beliefs without forcing

them on people? How will you get the general public and their attention span long enough to educate them on some of themore intelligent aspects of Satanism? Using research into the religion, resolve the issue of misinformation and come up with a

proposal of how best to put across the information.

Considerations* How has Satanism been portrayed in the past?* What are the fundamental rules? Are there sensible ideas that get ignored because of media hype?

    * Who are you aiming this at?

    * What does the religion consist of? Is it a series of like-minded people or is the forum diverse and open-ended? Friendly or

conflicting? Living or dead? Humorous or hellish? Establishment or anti-establishment?

    Target AudienceThe misinformed public.

Project 2: An interview with SylviaBackgroundThe Sylvia Plath effectis a term coined by psychologistJames C. Kaufman in 2001 to refer to the

phenomenon that poets are more susceptible tomental illness than other creative writers. Kaufman'swork further demonstrated that female poets were more likely to suffer from mental illness than any

other class of writers. In addition, female poets were more likely to be mentally ill than other eminentwomen, such as politicians, actresses, and artistsThis finding has been discussed in many internationalnewspapers, including the New York Times. The finding is consistent with other psychological researchstudies. The effect is named after theAmerican poetSylvia Plath, who committedsuicide when she was thirtyyears old.The BriefUsing the 1962 Sylvia Plath Interview with Peter Orr, visualise how both the answers and the questions could exist on printed
