Four films, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, 28 Days Later and The Beach. These four films directed by Danny Boyle have been published into books. I have designed the covers for these four books and other products that could relate to the reading experience. I have also considered where the products would sit in context and how they could be packaged.

I designed a set of bookmarks that go with each book, they are in a unique format, and work as a magnetic clip that folds around the last page the reader would’ve read. The point from the hexagon shape points towards the last line the reader read. They would be printed onto the same stock as the book cover, but be stuck on a sheet of magnet, cut down to the appropriate shape. The magnet would have to be in two parts, down the middle of the shape, to enable an easy fold and also so the magnet sticks together.

Another product that features alongside the books, is a fold out poster, these work as a series and spell out ‘READ’ when positioned next to each other. Each one is free with a specific book, although they can be bought separarately as well. They print onto a unique format, which is slimmer than A2, and each contains the quote from the specific book that is also featured on the front cover. To show the posters layout, one of each would be printed onto mount board, and displayed alongside the cabinet.

When considering how to promote and encourage the reading experience, I thought about what complimented reading a lot. Chocoate. I designed four chocoalte wrappers, one for each book, that could either be bought separately, or part of the package that would be gift wrapped.

These items can either be sold separately, or as part of a package. The products work as a pic ‘n’ mix, customers can choose what they want and then it’s all wrapped in specially designed wrapping paper. Similar to the Marks & Spencer ‘Two Dine for £10’, it’s the idea of buying a night in. Each package is sealed with a sticker, designed to link with the package, and to encourage a relaxing, reading experience.

I considered this range to feature inside the bookstore Waterstones. The products would all sit within a wooden cabinet, expressing a homely, comfortable environment. The cabinet works as a sort of pic ‘n’ mix stall, customers can pick and choose various products from the cabinet depending on preferance. The poster featured bottom right, would sit in the frames either side of the cabinet as a form of in store promotion.
