A Word From the Assistant Principal
Dear BPA Family,
So many positive and exciting events are
happening at our campus every month. This
month our character trait is KINDNESS and
leadership. Black history month allows our
students the opportunity to reflect on the
important contributions of so many of our
history’s greats! Teachers and students are
celebrating and discussing cultural diversity,
racial harmony, and teaching what it means to be
kind to each other.
Kindness is defined “as the quality of being
friendly, generous, and considerate”. Please join
us in our efforts to teach our students the true
meaning of kindness. It is only through these
efforts that we will see real change at our school,
in our community and in our
world. “Intelligence plus character—that is the
goal of true education.” Martin Luther King.
The BPA Family is a special and unique
community of which I am proud to serve as your
assistant principal
Yours in Education,
Suzanne MizziSuzanne Mizzi

st Grade
In math and science first graders have been focusing on reading and modeling tens and ones. This month we will continue to work with tens and ones to subtract and add. In reading we have been learning about animal attributes and how animals work together while working with the characters point of view, elements of literacy, comparing and contrasting skills along with spelling. We have incorporated this in our writing. Our successes have been celebrating 85% and above each Friday afternoon!
-Mrs. Figueroa & Ms. Williams

th Grade & th Grade
In 4th grade ELA, we read scientific articles and collected information to write our
first 5 paragraph essays. We learned about effective note taking strategies while collecting information for our essays. We also began our second novel study of the year. We are reading “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate. So far it’s a hit!
-Ms. Hutton-----------------------------------------------------
Science In fourth grade, we learned all about rocks and minerals and had an
opportunity to explore them carefully. We also learned how rocks and minerals can erode and weather. In 5th grade, we learned about the different celestial objects in our solar system and how they are different from each other. We also took a scale-sized solar system walk by size and distance starting at the sun all the way to Saturn before we reached the end of our campus and had to turn back. -Mr. Shahar
rd Grade
In January we learned how to look for a character's or narrator's point of view in stories and poems. We also learned how to find an author's point of view in informational text. In writing, we began a unit on opinion writing. We are learning how to support all types of writing with reasons and evidence (either from a text or from our own knowledge). In Social Studies, we learned about why people move to new places. Please continue to have your child read nightly. I also recommend that students use iStation or Achieve for 30 minutes 1-2 times a week at home. Let's keep going in these last 8 weeks before FSA! -Ms. A. Cleveland
Middle School 6th-8th Grades
athIn February, 7A worked on angles, triangles and other 2-dimensional shapes. We had fun constructing triangles out of pasta! 8th grade did lot of work graphing linear equations and solving systems when there is more than one line. Our algebra 1 class was also working on systems of equation and has now delved into the world of quadratic equations. They are loving FOIL! -Ms. Chouls--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In 6th grade, we have been working on one variable and two variable equations. The variables represent the unknown that we need to figure out using equations. In 7th grade, we have been working on geometry (area, perimeter, and angle relationships). In 8th grade, we have been working Systems of Equations; finding a solution for two equations by graphing, by substituting, and by elimination. All students are to practice on Khan academy for fluency. -Mrs. Boerger
cienceIn Schience 6th Grade went to Nature’s Classroom, they enjoyed learning about the different environments that animals live in, how to navigate and being in the water exploring different areas. 7th
and 8th grade have been keeping up with our school garden, making sure everything is going well.
-Mr. Gainer aka "Science Guy"
