editor’s notesCongratulations to the lovely brideLIFE team on their first publication! And congratulations to you, the happy couple, who have decided to say your I do’s in Barbados.

No one has learnt more about weddings in the past four months that I have. My own nuptials were 12 years ago and while they were perfect in every way for me I’ve been inspired by the blossoms, colours and themes that are presented to you here. More so, it’s really made me look at this lovely island I call home and realise how much it has to offer as a wedding destination, a honeymoon destination and overall as a place with good people and wonderful memories just waiting to happen!

A special thank you to the Sandeman’s for letting us shoot at their gorgeous villa Monkey Business, and to Sunbury House and The Cliff for the use of their grounds for our bridal shots. These two venues are among our favourites on the island.

Most of all, I’ve learnt how much energy the players in this industry put into ensuring a bride’s dream turns into reality; the same energy was given over to the brideLIFE team and I want to thank everyone who was involved; from our fabulous caterers Patisserie Flindt and Country House Caterers to our wonderful photographers, stylists and models, this was a first class experience for everyone! At Jubilee Events we create highly stylized, highly detailed weddings and events for our clients. Our aim is to give the bride, groom and their guests an experience they will never forget. Any successful event planner knows that there are several key factors that make an event a successful experience for all those who attend. For me the most important aspect of getting it all right, is having the right team.

I’ve worked with clients all over the world, from Costa Rica to France, Spain to New Orleans; but my experience working with the brideLIFE team in Barbados this summer has been truly unforgettable.

Let me make myself clear. I LOVE this island. I love the coasts, the country, and especially the people. From the gorgeous wildlife on the East to the mesmerizing sunsets in the West, the plantation houses, the villas, natural woods and more; Barbados offers such a vast array of venue options for any bride thinking of her Caribbean wedding.

What I especially loved was the cultural history of the island. Many people gloss over this with visions of steel pan and limbo and smiling faces in straw hats, but learning about Barbados’ rich history has been fascinating! It’s romantic, it’s wild, it’s rustic and full of charm but what I think was the biggest surprise was just how luxurious the island is. Not only are the beaches exquisite, the venues are magnificent, the scenery divine, the people friendly and professional and the quality of work high.

Meeting the team at The Cliff was definitely a highlight for me. The Cliff is simply magical, there is no better way to end the day than sipping a cocktail, basking in the warm glow of the sunset and drinking in the serene ocean below.

Working with the team of Donna, Kia and Kirk over the weekend on the bridal shoot confirmed to me that this island does indeed want for nothing in terms of professionalism. Dining at the various restaurants and our stay at Oceans 2 confirmed it has mastered the service industry.

When planning a destination wedding, we in the industry need creative collaborators with high standards, an eye for detail, and a commitment to seeing the event through from the arrival of the bridal party on the island to the farewell and bon voyage! The entire process comes down to everyone working in synergy so absolutely everything, the look, the feel, the taste, the smell the ambiance all come together to create something truly memorable.

This little gem of an island has it all: Romance, culture, vogue, country and of course island chic. One minute we are relaxing on the beach and half an hour later we are touring a centuries old plantation house, marveling at the picturesque Cherry Tree Hill or being windswept by the cool Atlantic breezes over at Bathsheba. After my time here, I’ve come to realize that Barbados has captured my heart and taken my breath away, I know it will do the same for you.

CHURCH WEDDING. If the Bride and Groom decide that they want to get married in a church, the couple needs a written confirmation from their priest that they are both practicing Christians and have participated in pre-marital counselling.

ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. If you are requesting a Roman Catholic Church wedding these are the requirements needed: Parties must be interviewed by their Parish Priest in the home Diocese of the Catholic party. It is he who will undertake the necessary investigations, obtain a dispensation if required and provide information about participation in a pre-marriage preparation programme. Your Parish Priest will then forward the relevant papers to his Diocesan Chancery. The chancery should then send them well in advance, to the Diocesan office in Barbados. The Sacrament of Marriage may not be performed on Holy Saturday.

JEWISH SYNAGOGUE. There is no Rabbi in Barbados and non-Jews are not allowed to use the Synagogue. Those who would like to get married in the Synagogue must bring their own Rabbi. There is a rental fee of US$1,500. For further information about the Synagogue and couples may contact Jimmy Altman at: [email protected]

Valid Passports or the original or certified copies of the applicants’ birth certificates;

If either party was married previously and widowed, a certified copy of the marriage certificate and death certificate in respect of the deceased spouse;

If either party was divorced , an original decree absolute or a certified copy of Final Judgment not decree Nisi.

If either party was previously married and widowed, a Certified copy of the Marriage Certificate and Death Certificate in respect of the deceased spouse.

Where necessary, all documents not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation. A marriage may be solemnized immediately after the issue of the licence.

A letter from your marriage officer stating the date and time of the wedding.

$25 BDS stamp fee for overseas couples and $10 BDS for Barbadian Citizens

$200 BDS for Marriage License for overseas couple or $45 BDS for Barbadian Citizens.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED HELPFUL INFORMATION

Getting married in Barbados is very easy.

There is no waiting period or minimum length of stay to get married in Barbados. Application for a marriage license must be made by both parties in person, at the office of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Bridgetown (Tel: 246-228-8950).

Seashells by the SeashoreWhite tones using the f lowers and the sea shel ls in the large glass vase. These décor components help create a very modern and fresh feel to the table sett ing. Modern tones and décor def initely help highl ight a beach scene or theme. We used a l ime green accent colour to help break up the amount of white and add a bit of texture as wel l .

In this our inaugural edition we’ve chosen to highlight our beautiful shores and the endless possibilities they represent. As Barbados is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands it enjoys both the calm serene waters of the Caribbean Sea and the wild allure of the Atlantic and so we’ve chosen to highlight our favourite venues on either coast.

As the sun rises in the East we’ve headed out to Atlantis Hotel in Tent Bay, St. Joseph to discover a hideaway that encapsulates everything that Barbados represents and is perfect for hosting a truly unique tropical soiree.

As manager and head chef Manny Ward explains, Atlantis is the perfect venue for couples looking for picturesque symbolism for their new journey together. “This is where the day begins in Barbados, what better place to start your new life together, the day is all yours, from beginning to end.”

Renovated in 2009, the main house has 8 spacious rooms facing the coast and 2 two bedroom self contained apartments a short hop away from the ocean below. It’s ideal for wedding parties looking for self contained accommodation and a spacious venue for hosting the perfect island wedding.

The decor is old world, stylish yet uncomplicated with a hint of decadence long gone, you could forgive yourself for expecting a young Liz Taylor and Harry Belafonte to make an appearance.

The main dining hall features open shutters on three sides that draw in the breeze, the view and the island flavour itself, a long saloon style bar to one side and a smaller more private arbor nestles unassumingly to the other. The covered veranda provides a more exposed viewpoint of the charming fishing boats that dot the coastline amid the coconut trees and a breezier option for those wishing to be one with the landscape. Manny explains it can cater to up to 160 guests, making it an unusual prize as far as boutique hotels go.

To learn as much as we can about how to blend the right amount of Caribbean flair into your menu we turn to one of our favourite chefs and proprietor of The Tides Restaurant, Guy Beaseley to give us tips for planning the catering on your big day.

Guy’s resume includes training with the famous Roux brothers, fondly known as the Godfathers of British cuisine (Gordon Ramsey trained with them) and he firmly believes in his philosophy: “Simple flavour, simple food.” Too far East is West as they say and while many couples desire a wide spread it’s best that you go for simple tastes with a little ‘spice’ so to speak.

Locals tend to go for traditional ‘bajan’ dishes such as cou cou, flying fish and ham and macaroni pie, giving guests a delicious meal that ensures guest go leave with full bellies and big smiles. Over the years we’ve seen a definite trend away from the traditional big meals; couples now look for a milieu of dining options for their guests, from full buffets to intimate curry stations, tapas to cupcake canopies. Personalizing the menu can often lead to the enchantment of the evening as guests feast throughout the evening.

We like to think outside the box when it comes to Caribbean cuisine and Guy agrees. “I love the tastes of the Caribbean. But of course I trained in the traditional; the key is to find the right blend between the both without being too overwhelming.”

Of course weddings are all about the love and Guy says he cooks from the heart and that’s something the happy couple should think about. So if the bride is British and the Groom from the islands you could have a sweet ‘marriage’ of those cuisines by focusing on what flavours mix well and looking at the menu to cater to all tastes. Mini yorkshire puddings with roast beef for canapes, curried shrimp dip, maui maui wrapped in pastry, hot pepperpot soup and a good old roasting station at the buffet with chutney dips to add that island sweetness.

As far as those subtle switches that can take a dish from classic to tastily memorable think island spice and local produce. So for example, new potatoes become sweet potatoes, local avocados add a creamy texture and mangos some sweet zest; we urge you to try plantain in all it’s forms. Guy’s favourite is a ‘frou frou’ dish, mashed plantain with garlic and herbs and butter, is your mouth watering yet? We thought so!

Of course we are in the Caribbean sea and everyone desires a little a la mer, trust us Bajan’s know how to get adventurous with their seafood. A little lightly jerked salmon, spicy tuna and watermelon tartar, lobster risotto and more are on The Tides menu and Guy points out that our little island has come a long way when it comes to our seafood and the culinary arts and wedding preparation in general.

“The menu is always a nice surprise for the day isn’t it. For any wedding it’s considered an important contingent, you could have fireworks, release chinese lanterns into the night or have an amazing dish that had the guests mouths watering.”

Here are some guidelines to consider when you sit down with your caterer for your perfect island wedding:

• Choose your spice! Different islands will have different spices. Barbados tends to use classic lime and herbs but if you really want something with kick work together so it can please all palates.

• Keep it simple! Too many dishes can confuse the taste buds. Think different food stations or if it’s a sit down meal go with limited options on sides, no one wants to be overly stuffed.... there’s dancing happening later!

• Cater to everyone! Remember you’re hubby might be a curry fanatic but that doesn’t mean his Canadian aunt is. Make sure you have dishes that can be considered ‘safe’ for your guests.

• Numbers matter! Don’t we know it. The larger your wedding the more you need to think about....no one wants to run out of shrimp!

• Personalise it! Every good caterer can work with your tastes, background and needs, just ask!

• Fancy doesn’t have to be grandoise......consider coconut ice cream for dessert....a local favourite and a wonderful sweet treat to the end of the evening....budget friendly island inspired.

• Keep it taste-ful! Potato salad is all very well but add something simple like red onions or cilantro and you’ve got more wow factor!

We had two very distinct beachside locations and I wanted to style each one differently, showing that you can have distinctly different

looks on the beach! The first venue was the beautiful Ocean 2 resort. I went for a more romantic feel for this location with soft hair and natural make up. I commissioned designer Ivy + Aster to create a stunning Guipure lace t-shirt gown specifically for this shoot that

was inspired by a fabulous image that I adore. The second location was the sophisticated Cliff Restaurant. For this venue I wanted to create a much more sophisticated look. I opted for soft gowns with a

dramatic flair paired with bold hair and makeup.

The most popular form of Caribbean flavour injected into island weddings is the sweet steel pan. The sensuous pan tempo is not to be humbled; it can set the right tone and most destination weddings, from the simple to the extravagant, often incorporate some pan rhythms; it lulls, it sways, and it usually flavours the cocktails with the right amount of island ambience.

Barbadian entertainment however cannot be boxed in, it’s easier to explain that our culture has a rich history and the styles and genres we have embraced are expressed in a ‘uniquely Bajan’ way. Which is really what makes our entertainers so versatile and our entertainment so popular.

While island weddings today still embody that essence of simplicity and romantic escapism, entertainment wise things have gotten a whole lot more sophisticated. Every couple wants their wedding to have that special something that leaves their guests truly inspired, it’s not just about the occasion, it’s about the experience.

Barbados offers a abundance of choice that expands well beyond the traditional. The talent available in the island is truly first class and as Director of Notes to Note Entertainment Chris Harper explains, any need, any idea, any whimsy can be brought to life in this tiny island, all you have to do is ask.

“We’ve put together Big bands, Mowtown Bands, Jazz Bands. We’ve incorporated traditional West Indian entertainment with Classical, Contemporary and everything in between. Anything is possible here, you just have to have the right team.”

Indeed entertainment serves as an emotional barometer for the big day. An acoustic set in the breeze in a garden may convey the pure unity of the happy couple while a full gospel choir in a church can set the tone of celebration that stays with the guests long after they’ve left the reception.

The key is to plan ahead and put as much thought into the entertainment as you would any other aspect of the day. You’re flowers could be magnificent but if the wedding singer is appalling that’s what your guests will remember.

authentic barbados:A truly tropical wedding need not embody all the hollywood stereotypes. It’s not all tiki torches and pineapple hor dourves, coconut cocktails and limbo on the beach. Though don’t get me wrong, island entertainment is, as the Bajan’s say “Sweet Fuh Days”.

That Barbados can provide almost any type of entertainment should not come as a surprise. Our culture is intertwined with music and traditional Barbadian entertainment need not feel touristy, we strive for authenticity and our artistes are penultimate professionals.

More often than not, couples will want to incorporate a little Caribbean flair into their day; while the possibilities are endless they are always well received! An elegant wedding can never go wrong with some sweet pan rhythm and often an authentic Tuk Band (a sort of traveling street carnivalesque band featuring bass drum, flutes and a fiddle) provides a jocular spectacle that can loosen the stiffest upper lip and get the party started.

Tuk bands are often accompanied by an assortment of Bajan characters, there to get guests up on their feet as well as providing a show. Mother Sally, shaggy bears and green monkeys tumble, tease guests and provide many a raucous laugh.

There is definitely something to be said for considering the tone you want to set. Couples often like to reflect their personality in the ceremony, whether it be through their style, decor or choice of entertainment for the night, the fact of the matter is each aspect should be treated with equal reverence.

Chris shared some of his favourite wedding memories: “I did a wedding recently where we had Alex Santorelli (Barbados’s own Broadway star) sing two songs in the church. I guarantee, the guests are still talking about that performance. It was just that powerful!. At the other extreme we did a wedding for a Korean couple at The Cliff, it was very traditional, very sweet but they had specific requests for the entertainment, more specifically hip hop was the genre of music they chose, it took us completely by surprise! But the DJ knew in advance and brought a wide selection and then we accommodated one of their female friends in the DJ booth and she just blew the place up. It was one of the best weddings I’ve ever been to, mainly because they knew exactly what they wanted out of the night and if flowed and it energized and it was completely in tune with who they were as a couple.”

Of course he is ever quick to emphasize the importance of teamwork when planning out the entertainment for your big day. “You want things to run smoothly, everyone has to be working in synch. If you want to plan your own entertainment, maybe you have an Uncle who wants to sing something special, you have to ensure that the DJ or band is privy to the plan, otherwise this can lead to disappointment.”

TIPSTHINK IT OUT: Don’t just hire a DJ, consider what you want out of him. Think of how you want the occasion to flow from church to reception. Entertainment is an integral part of the day.

BE PREPARED: If you have special songs you want that represent memorable parts of your life, list them out and provide that list in advance to avoid disappointment.

LOOK AT DETAILS: if you want a DVD Montage for example, make sure you have everything you need, or have organized everything you need. There is nothing worse than a hitch in your plans, it can ruin the day.

PERSONALIZE IT! Think about significant periods and occasions in your relationship and see if there is a song or a style of entertainment that was associated with it. E.G Your first kiss, the song that was playing when you first met or the scene of the proposal.

Think about things that identify you individually as well as a couple. Try to make your day about both of you!

RELAX... Do all of this as a relaxing exercise. It’s ENTERTAINMENT....be happy when you are thinking about it, this will make it a pleasant experience and not a task.

Don’t skimp on quality!! Get it right, this is your day!

Thankfully Caribbean weddings offer the chance to play it up and be as fanciful and colourful as you like, or go for simplicity that can be understated but island chic, after all the bottom line is you’re on holiday!!

Our favourite fashionista and make up artist Greg Williams recommends you pack several choices but also embrace the locale. “Very often when I’m talking with guests they confess they’ve gotten their outfit here from one of our local shops. The truth is until you arrive and adjust to the climate and get into the whole caribbean ambiance, you really can’t know exactly what you’re going to ‘feel’ like wearing!”

It’s true that you can find some real gems on the island that often become wardrobe favourites as they’re forever associated with the memory of the event or holiday.

Children always have it easy with boys looking charmingly handsome in polo shirts and slacks and the girls can indulge in a little tropical prints that can be dressed up with fancy hair and jewelry, after all, every little girl LOVES a real wedding and dressing up is part of that experience.

Our favourite island designer for island whimsy is Tracie Lamb of Best & Tracie in Holetown, St. James. Greg agrees “Her clothes are designed with the tropics in mind but without sacrificing that comfort or style. The cuts are simple but flatter every body shape and their prints are so cute on the kids!”

Of course the kids get away easy, we all know it’s a fashion show for the grown ups, and Greg advises you pay close attention to the location! “Absolutely, look if you’re invited to a beach wedding, I strongly advise against long materials and heels! There is nothing elegant or together about a wet hemline. If you’re looking at the beach think short, breezy and light.”

Many brides opt for weddings at one of the many gorgeous villas on the island or restaurants. These offer the chance to dress it up and play the socialite! Cocktail dresses, heels and glamour abound but again, it’s all about the fabrics. Go for breezy rather than fitted, a chic belt cinched over a chiffon shift with gorgeous jewelry can be a show stopper (though be mindful not to upstage the bride!). We love colour and colour loves you, don’t be afraid to stand out in bright hues and don’t forget the bling.

Most importantly have some fun with it...you’re in the Caribbean, it’s all about those holiday vibes! Greg has some great tips for hair and makeup to keep you glowing all night.

• Try wrinkle resistant fabrics....heat and sweat and linens don’t mix no matter what you see in the movies.

Our wedding day itself surpassed our expectation – and based on the feedback from our guests, all of the elements we tried so hard to achieve were met and felt throughout the evening and night. All of our decisions were made with the aim to keep it as personal as possible, and where necessary traditional was tweaked to reflect us,, i.e., my opting for a man of honour and opting to drive ourselves from the church to the reception site. After a touching ceremony by the groom’s cousin (Rev. Peter Haynes), we loved being able to mingle and chat with our guests by the refreshment/water station that was set up under umbrellas outside of the church. While our guests proceeded on to the reception for cocktails, entertainment and photo booth pictures, we strolled through the town to capture the beauty and sleepiness of old rustic Speighstown that made us fall in love with the location in the first place. We are not a traditional couple and did not want ‘traditional formal pictures. Instead, we requested ones that told the story of our day and captured the energy of the moment in a truly artistic form. Again our expectations were surpassed. Even when our bridal party (being themselves) started playing around and dancing, or when the unexpected showers made us run for shelter in Fisherman’s Pub, it didn’t dampen our spirits - all of which our photographers fed off the energy and unknowingly captured us being very natural resulting in some truly amazing pictures.

Being self professed ‘foodies’ – both from families that are immersed in food industry from both business and personal spheres, we knew that the menu, food and service were the least of our worries. My dad (trained chef) personally oversaw and managed the preparation of the food at the reception, and did not fail to impress. The menu was simple but prepared with love and passion and blended the tastes of both families (Mark’s red meat loving family and my seafood loving family). Even though the guests were free to roam the grounds of the property (which believe it or not also had a working quarry on it), the reception formalities were hosted under a 15,000 sq ft tent which had something for everyone. A children’s play area and dining room, adult lounge area – featuring the ongoing photo booth and a sit down riding bull ( a surprise from our parents to appeal to our crazier side) and two sit down bars offering amongst other drinks, a specially mixed rum barrels - an ode to Mark’s family background in rum). The riding bull may be have seemed out of place amidst the elegance of the formal dinner and the live jazz band which performed during dinner – but it truly reflected US. After the dinner and formalities, we surprised our parents and guests with a special ‘Thank you video message“– a personal project to express just how truly humbled we were from their outpouring of support and love and considering a quarter of our guest list travelled from around the world to be there, and then after, the real fun celebration started continued without a five (5) hour dance party.

As far as advice for other couples, try not to get too caught up in all the stress. The wedding is one day – make it reflect who you are as a couple as opposed to impressing others. It is the small things that make the difference in your day. Enjoy the time leading up to the wedding, but more importantly take the marriage seriously - not the wedding!

Your wedding invitations are one of the most important elements of your big day. Not only do they provide your guests with the important wedding details, such as date, time and location, but they also communicate the style and tone of the wedding. Is your special day going to be one of tradition and formality, or are you going for a more relaxed and whimsical setting? Is your reception being held at a luxury hotel, on the beach, or in a tropical garden? Every wedding has its own unique and personalized character, simply because every couple is different. Brides and grooms want a wedding that is distinctively theirs. Regardless of if it’s a formal dinner soiree, or a beach-side cocktail reception, there are elements of the Wedding Invitation that are customary throughout.

THE ANATOMY OF A WEDDING INVITATION

Most couples try to maintain a style that is socially correct, while at the same time creating an invitation that is personally theirs. Elements such as colour, fonts,

graphics, card type, embellishments, etc. can be used to create that feeling of individuality, without sacrificing the traditional elements.

That being said there are those couples who love to challenge tradition. In this case, the sky’s the limit! Meaningful verses or quotes, out-of-the-box layouts and wording, can all come together (once carefully thought out) to create stationery that just screams “exceptionality”. Whichever style suits you, there are 6 basic elements that should always be included:

NAME OF THE HOST(S)

Invitations should start with the name(s) of those who are hosting the wedding. Traditionally the bride’s parents usually pay for the wedding and are therefore considered the hosts. However in more modern weddings the expenses are shared, and therefore invitations may state multiple hosts. This can include both the bride’s and the groom’s parents, other family members or the couple themselves.

REQUEST LINE

The phrases used to extend the invitation vary depending on the location of the ceremony. For weddings taking place in a Place of Worship, such as a Church or Synagogue, the line “request the honour of your presence” is used. For a more informal location such as a hotel, private villa or beachfront ceremony, the line “request the pleasure of your company” is written. Should the invitation be for a Reception only, the lines “would be delighted by your presence” or “invite you to join them at the wedding reception of” are more appropriate.

NAME OF COUPLE

The Bride and Groom are the most important elements of the invitation, and their names are therefore located on separate lines. The preposition used to link them (whether it be “to” or “and”) is usually on its own line. Traditionally, the bride’s last name (once it’s the same as her parents’ above) is not repeated. Titles such as Mr. and Miss are not used. In more contemporary weddings, where both sets of parents are hosts, the last names are treated equally.

DATE AND TIME OF THE WEDDING

The date of the wedding on traditional invitations is usually spelt out (eg. Saturday the third of March). There is no “and” before the year, which is also spelt out using all lowercase letters. When indicating the time, usually it is spelled out and written to describe the placement of hands on a clock (eg. “half after” or “half past two”; not 2:30p.m.), and include either “in the morning”, “in the afternoon” (before 6pm) or “in the evening” (after 6pm).

LOCATION OF THE WEDDING

AND RECEPTION

Traditionally, street addresses of places of worship or well-known locations were not included on the invitation. This however has been changing with time, and more couples are including the basic address (zip codes and the name of countries are not used, except in the case of a destination wedding). Commas are not used at the ends of lines. If the reception is in the same place as the ceremony, a single invitation can be used. If however the reception is held elsewhere, a separate card might be helpful.

REPLY INFORMATION

Traditionally separate RSVP cards, envelopes and stamps have been used to encourage guests to respond to their invitation. However the more common practice for today’s weddings is to list on the invitation in the lower left corner a telephone number, email address or website that can be used to respond, and a preferred response deadline date.

OTHER POINTS TO NOTE

FOR YOUR INVITATIONS

• If your event won’t include a full meal, it’s courteous to inform your guests. Use phrasing such as “and afterward for cocktails” instead of the classic “at the reception.”• If you want to stress the importance of the style of dress -- black tie, for instance, or casual attire -- place that information in the lower right corner, or on the reception card. • The only thing that should not be included anywhere on your invitation -- not even as an insert -- is your registry information. As altruistic as this may seem, it still isn’t considered appropriate to place a reference to gifts on a wedding invitation. Instead, let your wedding party help get the word out. • If you don’t want guests to bring children to the wedding there are much nicer ways to get this point across to your guests other than printing “no children please” on the invitation. The most subtle approach is to spread the word by mouth or on your wedding website. If you are looking for a more formal way to get the point across you can note “adult reception” on the invitation or reception card, or structure the response card as follows:

Getting StartedPick a date for your wedding. If you are choosing Barbados for your destination wedding, this is a vitally important step, because your wedding co-ordinator needs to make the necessary bookings. Sometimes it helps to have two other alternative dates, just in case the venue you choose is unable to accommodate your original date. You don’t want to be disappointed.

Select the various locations for your events, starting with the ceremony, and then the reception. You may choose a venue that can host both the ceremony and reception. Pay your deposits for the venues in order to confirm your booking.

Hire a wedding co-ordinator or wedding consultant, who can help you find the best locations and vendors, and generally source all of the perfect ingredients needed for your special day. You want to ensure that every detail for your wedding runs smoothly.

Choose your wedding attendants. It is recommended to choose people who are not only close to you, but who will be helpful and provide you with the support you need during this planning process.

Determine your wedding budget.

Discuss bar options with your caterer as well. Your wedding co-ordiantor can guide and advice you with this.• Meet with your wedding officiant for the ceremony and discuss how you want your ceremony to run. Choose your readings and readers. If you are a destination wedding couple your wedding co-ordinator will get you the information that you require and finalize your ceremony details on your behalf.• Start looking at options for your rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.• Book the transportation for you and your wedding party, and pay the deposit.

1-2 MONTHS AHEAD:• Mail all remaining invitations to your local guests at least six weeks before the wedding.• Begin to finalize the remaining details with each wedding vendor and your rentals.• Book accommodations for the wedding night.

2 WEEKS AHEAD:• Final fitting for your wedding dress and your bridesmaids dress should be completed at this point.• Your wedding co-ordinator will assist you with laying out your wedding timeline for how the big day should go. It should include any important notes, a list of the bridal party, all vendors and their contact information, list of speakers for the toasts, etc. If you are having a seated dinner finalize your seating plan and ensure it is included in your timeline.

• Your Maid of Honour should make sure that all arrangements for hair and makeup for your bridesmaids have been made, as well as organize a light lunch or brunch for the bridal party.• Confirm your rehearsal dinner and your wedding rehearsal.• Reconfirm the wedding transportation for your wedding party.

1 WEEK AHEAD:• Confirm numbers and details with your caterer and make sure they have received full payment .• Assign specific tasks to your wedding party at the ceremony and notify your wedding co-ordinator as to whom is doing what.• Reconfirm your wedding night accommodation.• E-mail your final timeline to all the wedding vendors and the caterer. Your wedding co-ordinator can assist you with this.

Now that your wedding is over, you have two choices of what to do with the dress. You can suffocate it in a plastic bag and hope that your daughter will want to wear it in 20 years (she won’t) or you can put it back on and have some fun while getting some amazing photographs at the same time. That’s exactly what Jenn & Derrick did and staying at The Hilton, it was a clear choice to use the beautiful beach right in front of them. Jenn & Derrick have a deep passion for photography (*ahh* a photographer’s dream) and so they had no problem getting down and dirty to get these great photos. An hour later and with a dress that became literally 5 times its previous weight, this shoot ended a tad more emotional than usual when Derrick came across some graffiti on the wall that read, “Banzai Locals Only” which reminded him of his family heritage.
