THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST — June 23, 2019

Offering Our Prayers

Gathered at the Eucharist we bring our prayers to God. We each have our own needs. Friends are sick. Neighbors are losing their home. Kids need work. The goldfish died. We bring these prayers to church because they remind us of our need and they raise our hopes in the power of God.

We have those hopes because God has rescued us time and again. Our relationship with God has produced fruitfulness, satisfied our longings, and brought us peace. Because of God’s faithfulness, we give thanks, offer sacrifice, and once again present our needs.

Melchizedek is a mysterious figure from the Book of Genesis who prays as we do. King of Jerusalem, priest of God Most High, he blesses Abram, whose armies have just won a victory. Melchizedek brought out bread and wine, and Abram offered him a tenth of his possessions.

The entire scene foreshadows our celebration of the Eucharist. God has rescued us from death. Jesus reigns as our king and priest. The community offers bread and wine. We each offer a tenth of what we own in sacrifice to God. When we worship at mass, we imitate the pattern of our ancestors’ worship. Every generation has the same needs. We present them to the same God, who works the same wonders in our midst.

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST — June 23, 2019

Are You Thirsting For God?

Are you someone who would like to learn more about your Catholic Faith? Do you know someone not bap-tized or baptized in a non-Catholic Christian tradition, who is thirsting for what it means to become Catholic?

Do you know someone already Catholic but has not yet received Confirmation & Communion?

Others may be thirsting too…

For each of us faith is a journey marked with moments of conversion along the way…we move from unbelief to initial faith, from sin to repentance, from painful isolation to the joyful experience of a loving community, from fear to love.

Faith, conversion, repentance, celebration and community ---five basic elements that are present in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The RCIA provides a setting where the journey of faith and moments of conversion can be celebrated within the local Church community.

RCIA is a place to ask questions and seek understanding. Come and See! Invite a friend! All are Welcome! RCIA meets Sunday’s at Little Flower School from 10:15 A.M. to 11:15 A.M.

For more information, contact the Parish Office at (301)994-0525.

Council Officer Key Change-over Strategies As we begin the new Fraternal Year with a change in council officers and program directors, the “SMART” Strategy will be a useful tool to help ensure successful charitable activities. Specific – A precise or specific goal. WHAT, exactly, in detail, needs to be achieved? Measurable – Quantifiable and can be measured. HOW you will know success! Achievable – Is this a worthwhile goal that can be achieved by our council? Realistic – Makes sense. Are sufficient resources available? What’s the outcome that is expected? Timely – A specific time period. Break it into small steps. Check the progress along the way. This month's Supreme Chaplain challenge This month I challenge you to deepen your relationship with the Holy Spirit by praying the words “Come, Holy Spirit” as you begin your daily time of prayer, your workday, or an activity at home. Secondly, I challenge you to invite a friend or family member (who is not active in their faith) to join you at Mass or at Adoration.
