Did you already know? In 2009, Boska Holland collaborated with Gassan Diamonds (in the historic center of Amsterdam) and the hip Argentinian jewelry designer Rodrigo Otazu, to create a one-of-a-kind Diamond-Studded Cheese Slicer. Otazu has designed jewels for many haute couture labels, and has adorned top models and celebrities including Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Aretha Franklin.

All Boska products are based on an idea. And the creative force that turns these concepts into new products is the Dutch designer Frank Bleeker. Beginning with the Milano and Monaco Collections, Bleeker transformed Boska’s history by developing an original line of professional products for the consumer. Suitable for use in the kitchen and on the table, Bleeker’s key elements of design are high quality and easy to use products. For these collections, Bleeker opted for durable, functional materials including slate and stainless steel.

Cutting like a Pro Cheese tastes even better when sliced with the right knife. Hard, semi hard, and soft cheeses all require a different type of knife. Just like wine, cheese tastes best when exposed to air. That is why freshly cut cheese is so much tastier than precut cheese. Even though precut cheese is so convenient, a true cheese lover does the cutting himself!

Recipe tip: You do not longer have to wait longer for the main course to enjoy a glass of delicious red wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot is the perfect match for what seems to be the least suitable appetizer for this occasion… is a simple fresh salad with Parmesan cheese. Cut a green bell pepper in long strips and create a little “bed” on a salad plate. Coverthe pepper with arugula and cherry tomato halves. Add some extra- -virgin olive oilwith a dash of aged balsamic vinegar, coarse sea salt and black pepper. Completethis simple salad with delicious freshly grated Parmesan cheese and serve along withslightly chilled wine.

Melt away!Raclette originated in the Swiss canton of Wallis, where sheepherders traditionally used to ‘pass the summer’ high up in the mountains. The herders brought with themhard cheese which they then melted over an open fi re, and drizzled onto pieces of bread. The result was a simple, warm meal that could be easily shared. The nameRaclette is derived from the French word “racler”, which means “to scrape”. Whenan open fi re is not an option, a wedge of Raclette cheese can be heated on one side, and then the warm layer of melted cheese is scraped off the wheel with a fl at- edged spatula onto the plate. Traditionally, Raclette is eaten with potatoes, cornichons and pickled onions. This dish is best served with white wine or tea.

What is porcelain? Porcelain originally comes from China and dates back to the Eastern Han Dynasty (196-220 AD). Porcelain fi rst reached Europe through the silk route during the Ming Dynasty. Today, the term porcelain can only be used for ceramics that comply with the regulations of the European Commission.

Porcelain is made from a mix of kaolin, a white clay, and silver sand. Feldspar or granite is added to the mix to decrease the baking temperature. Once formed, the mix is baked at 900 °C. Once baked, glazing is applied and the porcelain is then baked smooth at 1400 °C for one day and a half. After that, the porcelain is painted and then hardened at a temperature of 600-900 °C.

Tosti MexicanaRecipetip: ‘The ‘Guacamole Grilled Cheese’ is my favorite grilled sandwich. It is not just because it contains Colby, Monterey Jack, and goat’s cheese, but mostly because what is on the outside. Instead of regular butter on the bread, the butter is mixed with tortilla chips, resulting in a crispy crust. In

combination, the three cheeses, guacamole, and bacon on the inside and the crispy crust

on the outside make for a fantastic grilled-sandwich version of tortillas.’

Recipetip: ‘My favorite fondue is a Belgian cheese fondue consisting of a combination of the Vieux Malmédy, Nazareth, and Abbaye d’Orval cheeses. Rub the inside of the fondue pot with cut sides of garlic and add a 0.75L bottle of dry

white wine. Bring the wine to a boil and then add the cheese at once. Mix cornstarch with a small glass of Peket liquor and add this as well.

Generously add pepper and garnish each dish with a bed of salad, pref-erably romaine or frisée, and sprinkle it with walnut oil and some

mustard. Serve this dish with pieces of old bread and Ardennes ham and enjoy.’

Jacquy Cange, Maître Fromager Ambassador of the international cheese guild and L’Artisan Affi neur®

Cheese Fondue A traditional dish that originated in the Swiss Alps, fondue was fi rst made using only Swiss cheese. A hearty shareable meal, fondue remains a classic for entertaining. Many taste variations of Swiss cheese fondue have been conjured up, most notably with Italian herbs, blue or goat’s cheese. Or, for a decadent dessert, try replacing cheese with chocolate and serve with seasonal fruits. There’s nothing better than fondue for an easy, quick and festive meal with friends.
