HEAD COACH BRIAN WARDLE• The 14th head coach in Bradley Basketball
history, Brian Wardle completely overhauled the
Bradley roster in his first season with the Braves
in 2015-16, coaching the youngest team in NCAA
Division I basketball, a squad that featured 10
freshmen among 12 active players.
• He remains committed to the youth
movement as he establishes his culture on the
program with a 2016-17 roster that includes 12
underclassmen among 15 total players.
• Prior to joining the Braves, Wardle compiled a
95-65 (.594) overall record in his five seasons at
Green Bay, which culminated with back-to-back
24-win seasons and three straight postseason
appearances and included the 2013-14 Horizon
League regular-season title.
• Wardle was the youngest head coach in
NCAA Division I basketball when he took over the
Green Bay program in 2010 at age 30 and he is
seventh among all NCAA Division I head coaches
younger than 40 with 100 career victories.
• Prior to taking over as head coach at Green
Bay, Wardle spent the previous five seasons
(2005-10) as a Phoenix assistant and two years
(2003-05) as Director of Ops at Marquette.
• As a player, Wardle scored 1,690 career
points at Marquette, still good for seventh on
the school’s career scoring list.
• Led the Golden Eagles in scoring in each of
his final three seasons (1998-01).

Bradley Braves Basketball: 2016-17 PROSPECTUS
NATION’S YOUNGEST TEAM IN ‘15-16• In his first year as Bradley head coach, Brian
Wardle undertook a complete makeover of the
roster and the Braves played the 2015-16 season
as the youngest team in college basketball.
• Committed to rebuilding the program with
freshmen, Bradley’s 12-man active roster in 2015-16
included 10 freshmen, a sophomore and a senior.
• Bradley’s roster had the highest percentage of
freshmen in the country, increasingly so if you did
not count the team’s two inactive upperclassmen.

• Bradley’s freshmen played nearly 600 more
minutes than any other freshman class in the
country.
• The Bradley freshmen were second nationally in
scoring and rebounding (see chart below).
GAINING EXPERIENCE• Bradley’s 10 freshmen in 2015-16 led the
nation’s rookie classes by combining to play 5,334
minutes last season.
• The 5,334 combined minutes equated to 166.7
individual minutes per game and represented 82.7
percent of the total available minutes.
• Washington ranked second to the Braves by
playing seven freshmen a total of 4,743 minutes.
• Looking ahead to 2016-17, Bradley returns six
of those 10 freshmen, a group that combined to
play 4,516 minutes last season, second only to
Washington’s full freshman class in 2015-16 for
total playing time last season.
• The other nine teams in The Valley return 19
freshmen who combined to play 3,068 minutes in
2015-16.

vote of the league’s 10 beat writers.
• Statistically, however, an argument could be
made Thomas was the league’s most improved
player last season.
• As a freshman in 2014-15, Thomas appeared in
31 of the team’s 33 games, averaging 2.5 points on
33.0 percent field goal shooting and 2.5 rebounds.
• As a sophomore in 2015-16, Thomas was
Bradley’s leading rebounder (6.2 rpg) and second-
leading scorer (9.1 ppg).
• His field goal percentage improved 107 points
to .437.
• Thomas also tied for fourth in The Valley with
four double-doubles, second among the league’s
returning players this season.
• He made two go-ahead-for-good 3-pointers
inside the final 25 seconds of games last season:
Jan. 13 at Loyola with 11 seconds left and Feb. 20
