BR24 Broadband Radar Direct roof mounting and part number addendum to manual
Product: All Brands BR24 Broadband Radar Effective date: 1st August 2009
Dear Colleague, To assist customers attaining maximum performance from their BR24 Radar, the following is an important consideration when deciding the best mounting location for the scanner.
Roof mounting BR24 When mounting the BR24 directly to vessels with a large hard top surface area, for optimum performance, the radar should be positioned to allow the vertical radar beams to clear the superstructure of the boat. Be aware the vertical radar beam extends to 25◦ either side of horizontal from the radar antenna. With 50% of the power projecting in a beam 12.5◦ off the horizontal.
Being observant of these beam angles will ensure improved target and range definition, especially in the medium and longer ranges.
Incorrect: reduced performance due to radar signal reflection or absorption of the hard top
Better: but there will still be a decrease in performance
Optimum: radar beams can clear the Hard top. Hardtops with a width of 0.85 m (3 ft), BR24 can be mounted directly to the roof

Below is a guide to determine scanner height in relation to a vessels hard top overall width.
Every increase of 400 mm of hard top width over 2.0 m wide: Increase height by 45 mm
Every increase of 400 mm of hard top width over 1.0 m wide: Increase height by 140 mm

Optional Scanstrut PT2004 Power tower Will raise scanner by 150 mm (6”)
Better Performance; Hard tops up to 2.74 m (8.98 ft) using Scanstrut PT2004
Optimum performance; Hard tops up to 1.35 m (4.43 ft) using Scanstrut PT2004
Optional Scanstrut PT2001 Power tower Will raise scanner by 358 mm (14”)
Better Performance; Hard tops up to 5.0 m (16.5 ft) using Scanstrut PT2001
Optimum performance; Hard tops up to 2.25 m (7.38 ft) using Scanstrut PT2001
Two options for raising the scanner Using a radar mounting tower will raise the scanner to help allow the radar beams to clear the hard top. Examples below show two radar mounts from Scanstrut

Part number addendum in BR24 installation manual This affects the following displays when connecting an optional heading sensor for chart overlay.
• Northstar M84, M124 • Navman 8084, 8120 • Also Simrad NX40 NX45 if using a NMEA0183 heading sensor.
The addendum applies to the BR24 Installation Manual (part number) MN000760 Rev. A, C and D (Page 17) and Rev. B (Page 18).
Anomaly outlined in red below Revised Text:
Connection kit AA010112 is not required Part number AA010115 is incorrect
For interfacing to an optional NMEA0183 heading sensor, order an AA010113 “Y” cable and an AA010116 NMEA interface cable. AA010114 is included with the radar when ordered for one of the above displays
