How we engage with our stakeholdersEmployees - BP uses a range of internal communications channels to keep our employees informed about the contextwithin which they work. These include town hall style meetings where employees hear directly from the executiveteam. We maintain regular communication with unions at many BP sites around the world.
Managing our people
Shareholders and analysts - We engage with shareholders and analysts through our annual general meeting andother events. We communicate via roadshows, webcasts and one-to-one meetings. In 2013, this included apresentation on BP Energy Outlook, an upstream exploration day and briefings on oil sands and our progress againstsafety enhancements recommended in the Bly Report.
Investor site
Following the Deepwater Horizon accident in 2010, BP was de-listed from the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and theFTSE4Good Index. We continue to engage in dialogue with socially responsible investors.
Governments and regulators - We engage with governments on many fronts, from consultation responses to directengagement with government representatives. Our code of conduct requires that we are honest and responsive in anyinteractions we have with governments.
Lobbying and advocacy
Financial transparency
Our industry - BP is working through business and industry groups to help establish standards and address complexenergy challenges. For example, BP is a member of the global oil and gas association for environmental and socialissues, IPIECA, and the American Petroleum Institute. We are also involved in industry partnerships on specific issuessuch as deepwater drilling and oil sands.
Our memberships
Contractors and partners - Like our industry peers, BP rarely works in isolation. Safe and responsible operationsdepend on the capability and performance of our suppliers, contractors and partners. To this end, we set operationalstandards through legally-binding agreements. Training and dialogue also help build the capability of our contractors.
Working with contractors and partners
Local communities - We engage with local communities through public consultations, as well as regular and ad hocmeetings with community representatives. Our relationships with communities are very important in our existingoperations, where we may be present for many decades. They are equally important for major new projects, where ourpresence may bring about changes in the local area, such as jobs and support for community development, but alsoincreased road traffic, changes in landscapes and increased demand for fresh water.

Supporting development in societies where we work
Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) - For our new projects, we often consult with relevant local andinternational NGOs, who may provide specialized expertise on managing impacts. We also engage with NGOs at agroup level. In 2013, we discussed biodiversity, climate change and energy policy, financial transparency, human rightsand operating in sensitive areas in these meetings.
Identifying issues
Customers - About 90,000 consumers in more than 15 countries participated in our global tracking researchprogrammes in 2013, answering questions ranging from how they rate BP on customer satisfaction in relation to itscompetitors to the degree to which they recognize our brand and use our products. Social media, focus groups and in-depth interviews with customers and online communications are rich sources of feedback for us.
