Boys and Girls Club Of Pembroke
A Good Place To Be
CORE VALUES INCLUSION & OPPORTUNITY We strive to offer children and youth from all economic, cultural and social backgrounds access to the resources, supports and opportunities that will enable them to overcome barriers and achieve their positive potential in life. RESPECT & BELONGING We provide a safe, supportive place, where every child is listened to, respected and valued in an environment of inclusion and acceptance. Our staff and volunteers model honesty, fair play, positive attitude, cooperation and respect for self and others. COLLABORATION We work together with families and volunteers in each community, in partnership with the public and private sector, to create healthy community solutions to providing children and youth with what they need for optimal development. SPEAKING OUT We speak out on behalf of children, youth and their families to reduce disadvantage, enhance their lives and enable their voices and ideas to be heard. EMPOWERMENT We believe all young people can grow into responsible, contributing and self-reliant members of society. Children and youth are at the center of everything we do. Through adventure, play and discovery, we encourage and empower them to develop healthy lifestyles, a life-long passion for learning, leadership and life skills and a sense of social responsibility.
For 49 years we have been providing a safe, supportive place
Where children and youth can experience new opportunities,
overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop
confidence and skills for life.

A MESSAGE FROM THE
BOARD CHAIR
Bob Walker
Dear Friends Welcome to this year in review for our Boys and Girls Club of Pembroke. It has again been a successful year, and thanks to the generosity of our many donors and volunteers the Club is poised for even more success in our delivery of impactful programs and services for the children and youth of our community as we enter the 50
th anniversary year of the Club in 2016.
We ended 2015 with our finances again in a strong position, thanks to significant donations to our Club from many, many donors and to careful attention to our program budgets. A very special thank-you to the Renfrew County United Way, to the Jason Blaine Charitable Foundation, to the 2CMBG Garrison Petawawa Ironman competition and to the RBC Foundation for making us one of their key funding priorities. In 2015, we made excellent progress on the second year of our new Strategic Plan. Under the strong leadership of our Executive Director, Rhodina Turner, we introduced a number of new and revamped program offerings for our members, which we will continue to improve and expand upon in 2016. We have a strong member and volunteer base on which to build. And we are close to completing a major overhaul of the Club’s administration policies and procedures to ensure excellence in the Club’s governance and management to the high standards set by the Boys and Girls Club of Canada. Consistent with our Strategic Plan, we have begun planning for a new Clubhouse. We have made excellent headway in consultation with a number of potential community partners. We are expecting to come to a decision on the new Clubhouse and to begin implementation in the second half of 2016 – which will be a wonderful contribution to our Club’s 50
th
anniversary celebrations! Since our last AGM, we welcomed five new Directors to the Board: Lynn Lavery, Mary Cahilll, Rick Dickinson, Jerry Muldoon and Judson Landrie. Three Directors resigned: Dan Mellen, Cindy Marquardt and Janet Slaughter. A very big thank you goes out to Dan, Cindy and Janet for their many contributions and to Lynn, Mary, Rick, Jerry and Judson for stepping up to the challenge. I know that the community, our members and their families deeply appreciate your commitment to the success of the Club. (continued next page)
It’s been another great year for the Boys & Girls Club of Pembroke. Over the past year, I have seen first hand the impact that the club has had on the children and the surrounding community. Thanks to funders like RBC Foundation, Renfrew County United Way, 2 CMBG Garrison Petawawa Ironman competition, and Jason Blaine Charitable Foundation, we were Able to offer new After School programs to our Children and youth. We are committed to nurturing the potential of our youth, and will continue our pledge to be responsible stewards of the contribution we receive. We continue to strive to be the best at what we do which is ‘to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.’ With the dedication of our staff and the sup-port of our volunteers, we continue to be vigilant with the quality of programming to ensure that our growth never diminishes our core programs that have made us what we are today. This annual report outlines some of our many accomplishments over the past year. I am very proud of what we have achieved and would like to thank the staff, Board of Directors, volunteers and our donors who have helped make this all possible. I look forward to the year ahead where we will be celebrating 50 years of service to the children and youth of Pembroke and surrounding area. Rhodina Turner Executive Director

After School Programs
The After School program is a fun-filled program that provides a safe and caring environment for children after school which focuses on cooperative learning, team work and sportsmanship. Crafts, games and physical activities are rotated on a daily basis. Daily snacks and homework help are offered during this program time, and children are encouraged to seek help. This year we offered afterschool
program in three locations.
Community
Supper
Community Supper runs once a week and is provided by generous donors from our community. Community partners can join us by making a delicious meal to share with the children or by making a monetary donation for the cost of a meal. The children get to enjoy a nutritious meal while working on their dinner etiquette, social skills, and cleanup responsibilities.
Recreation
Night We have two Recreation Nights, one for children and one for teens. On Tuesday evenings children gather at Champlain Discovery School to participate in crafts, drama, games and organized sports. On Thursdays nights teens gather at our clubhouse for a youth driven program with the opportunity to help plan their program, choosing topics, events and themes. We focus on community service, where the youth learn the value of giving back.
Steve Nash Youth Basketball program is a program designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and a love for the game of basketball. Children learn the importance of team playing, cooperation and leadership through friendly competitions.

Movie Night
Sometimes kids just want to relax!. Once a
month we have a movie night with popcorn and drinks. Just come out and enjoy the show. PJ’s and teddy bears
are welcome!
Kids & Teens In The Kitchen
Kids & Teens in the Kitchen is a six week program focusing on making healthy choices, meal
planning and budgeting. We look at flyers, price match, prepare the food and enjoy the
delicious product, while practicing safe food handling
and dinner etiquette.
Access Hockey Access Hockey is a 10 week program with full equipment provided. It is a great way to get out on the ice. We learn team work, sportsmanship and essential hockey skills. This program is aimed at children ages 6-10 who have never played hockey before or have little experience with it.
Camps We offer PA Day Camp, March Break Camp, Christmas
Break Camp and Summer Day Camp. Our camps provide a range of social, educational and skill development
opportunities that will appeal to children of all interests. Our staff are highly qualified, including certifications in
First Aid and HIGH FIVE, but most importantly they are fun and engaging positive role models who ensure that all
participants enjoy a camp experience to remember for a lifetime and many friends are made.
