The Centre welcomes into our
membership the Pembroke Duplicate
Bridge Club, every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
If you are interested in knowing more
about this activity, please leave a message
at the office and someone will contact
you.
During the winter weather conditions we are
asking to remove your outside winter
footwear before entering the main floor and
activity areas.
The residue left on the floor, whether it is wet
or dried sand, creates a slipping hazard
especially for the exercise and yoga activities.
Please bring a pair of indoor shoes with you
for your comfort and safety.
Safety for all members is a concern and by
working together will make a clean and safe
environment for all.
Thank you for your co-operation.

BLOCK PARTY
There are some exciting ladies and chatter
on Friday morning!
The machines are humming, there is “slicing
and dicing” all with chatter and laughter!
Not all weeks will focus on a Quilt block, but
with peer support you’ll come away with
knowledge and the start of something hand
crafted. If you have an U.F.O un- finished
object (i. e., knitting, crochet, sewing etc.,)
bring it along you might be
re-inspired to see it to a
completed project.
Thank you to Sue M. for
sharing her love and
expertise on teaching this craft. Cost for this
activity: $1.00 daily activity fee.

the Chat
Café February 27, 2019!

The following questions will be posed as
focus of discussion between all present:
What are the core transformative events
of your life?
How did these events shape your
development/evolution as a character, a
person?
Note that these events need not be
overtly dramatic events; they many be
quieter moments wherein someone said
something that you never forgot,
something that changed you way of
thinking or how you see the world.
Additionally/Alternately , it may be
someone who reached you through their
autobiography.
When was the last time you did
something for the first time?
And last but not least, would you
volunteer to do a Chat Café presentation
regarding one of your passions or
hobbies or a topic you believe would
capture others’ interest; if not you, who
would you volunteer :) , worded
otherwise, who do you know that may be
open to the opportunity????

Recipe Source: Yum and Yummer Cookbook
PREPARATION:
In a large soup pot, melt butter over medium heat.
Add onions, celery and garlic. Cook and stir until
vegetables begin to soften, about 3 minutes.
Add broth, potatoes, thyme, poultry seasoning, salt
and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low
and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Add cream-
style corn and peas and carrots. Simmer 5 more
minutes. Stir in chopped chicken and mix well.
In a measuring cup, whisk together cream and

February Walk in a Hike with Nature
Submitted by Pam Gaudette
January’s weather certainly has been unpredictable with the cold and snow. We were lucky to be
able to snowshoe one of the two planned snow shoe days. A great turnout of sixteen enthusiastic
members participated at Shaw Woods and we even commemorated the Centre by hanging a large
Christmas ornament from a tree on the Pinery Trail.
Mark your calendars for Day 1 Tuesday February 12th 10 am at the Laurentian Valley
Skating Trail (snowshoe trail follows beside this trail). Due to circumstances beyond
our control we will be returning for Day 2 on Monday February 25th at 10 am to Shaw
Woods. Forest Lea will be visited at a later date.
Directions for Laurentian Valley Skating trail: from Pembroke, follow Highway 58 (old Hwy
62) cross over the Hwy 417 and Henan Road is the first road after crossing the 417, turn left onto
Henan Road, follow Henan Road to the address 2 Henan Road and the trail is at the Alice and
Fraser Rec Centre.
Directions for Shaw Woods: from Pembroke, 2065 Bulgar Road North Algona Wilburforce,
Follow Hwy 41 from Pembroke, turn left onto county road 9 (Bulgar road) at north eastern shore of
Lake Dore, go for about 1 km, and you will see the entrance for Shaw Woods on the right.
Need to Know: there is ample parking, be prepared to spend about one to two hours
snowshoeing.
Snowshoe trails at Laurentian Valley follow beside the skate trail. This is a much shorter trail.
With the unpredictable weather and you have any concerns please call the Centre the morning of
the snowshoe day to see if the snowshoe day will proceed as planned. If there is freezing rain, a
snow storm or heavy snowfall, or high risk of frostbite, the snowshoe day could be cancelled.
Car pooling is a possibility, if you are unsure of the directions you may be able to follow in your own
car. Come and join us for a great morning of winter activity.
MEMOIRS AND PERSONAL ESSAYS
