Along theway, Annie befriends PresidentFranklin Delano Roosevelt,billionaire Oliver Warbucks, hispersonal secretary Grace Farrelland a lovable mutt named Sandy.But will she find the family shelongs for? Boasting one ofBroadway’s most memorablescores, including It’s the Hard-Knock Life, Easy Street, N.Y.C. andthe ever-optimistic Tomorrow,Annie is sure to be a holidaytreat for the entire family.
Annie is being directed by Ben Zylman (The Wizard of Oz,Forever Plaid, Fiddler on the Roof)with choreography by KathrynS. Williams (The Music Man,Fiddler on the Roof, The Wizard ofOz). We are very pleased to welcome Musical DirectorMichael Palmer, who is makinghis Civic debut. Sharing the titlerole will be Civic veteran Kadie Alpers and newcomer HannahMuscara. s many of you know, theKalamazoo Civic Theatre is one ofthe three largest and most promi-nent community theatres in thenation. What does this mean to theCivic? It means that we are blessedwith wonderful facilities, terrific volunteers, loyal patrons, donors,sponsors and season subscribers.And what does all of this mean toyou? It means an opportunity forlife enriching experiences. Whetheryou want to act, work backstage,take a class, greet our patrons,answer phones, paint scenery, sewcostumes or enjoy a wonderful show- there’s a place for you at the Civic.
For 82 years the people of ourcommunity have believed in the workdone at the Civic and have supportedour community’s theatre mostgenerously. In order to keep ticketprices and class tuitions affordablewe rely heavily on contributions,to meet our financial obligations.This support makes it possible forthose who want to participate toenjoy all the Civic has to offer.

Weencourage volunteers of all ethnicitiesand backgrounds to participate in our creative endeavors. Also, reasonable accommodations will bemade for those requiring special needs.
We encourage those auditioning toarrive thirty minutes prior to theaudition time. An early arrival willprovide plenty of time to fill out necessary paperwork, get a drink ofwater and take a few deep breathsbefore the audition begins.

Carver Center Studio November 12-20.

We are very pleased to be working in collaborationwith The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra to present Ellis Island: The Dream of America. Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as a work of rare authenticity and directness this moving piece incorporates music, dance, multi-media and dramatic monologues.
Playing in Miller Auditorium March 24th & 25th, Ellis Island: The Dream of Americais sure to be an experience not soon forgotten by patrons or participants.

Presented with Robert A. McKenna Award
ristin Tyrrell, a longtime Civic volunteer, hasbeen named the 2010 recipient of the Robert A.McKenna Award by the Community TheatreAssociation of Michigan. CTAM President ArtNemitz presented the award to Kristin prior tothe matinee performance of Godspell on Sunday,October 10.
Ms. Tyrrell began her association with theCivic almost 45 years ago. During that time shehas acted in dozens of shows, directed severalmore and worked behind the scenes in virtuallyevery capacity. Kristin has served on our Board ofDirectors and was instrumental in the creation ofour Senior Class Reader’s Theatre Program. Whencalled upon, Kristin is always happy to help out inthe business office or to assist with a sponsorevent. According to Managing Director, KristenChesak, “There doesn’t seem to be anything Kriscan’t do and do well. We are so fortunate to haveher as part of the Civic family of volunteers. Sheis the gold standard for volunteerism.”
As librarian for the CTAM library, which ishoused in the Carver Center, Kristin has spentcountless hours organizing and maintaining thou-sands of scripts. She has also served as the CTAMHistorian, sorting through and managing historicaldocuments and materials. Kristin’s attention todetail has helped to make it possible for CTAMgroup members and play selection committees totake advantage of these valuable resources.
The McKenna Award was established in 1987to honor the memory of Bob McKenna, a manwho epitomized the spirit of community theatre inhis home theatre as well as within the CommunityTheatre Association of Michigan. It is presentedeach year, to a CTAM group member who exhibits,over a period of time, extraordinary support ofcommunity theatre through his or her participation,commitment and dedication at both the state andlocal levels. Possible recipients of the McKennaaward are nominated by their home theatre groupor by a member of the CTAM board of directors.
Congratulations, Kristin. You are a credit tothe Kalamazoo Civic Theatre. There is no onemore deserving of this wonderful recognition.
