IT WAS A TOP MORNING! Grandparents and grandfriends enriched the lives of over 350 young people yesterday as they visited HCCS. I enjoy observing the fun, laughter, smiles and hugs as ‘grandies’ shared learning tasks, quizzes, craft, making and colouring with our children.
Grandparents’ and Grandfriends’ Morning is one of the best days of the school year if you ask the students. They are so proud to ‘show off’ their school, classroom and learning and value the feedback, encouragement and affirmation they receive from adults they love and hold dear! It was a ‘MAGIC’ morning and the morning tea and concert were the ‘icing on the cake!’.
A huge thank you to:
the ‘grandies’ who made the time to come, with many
coming from interstate
the students for their excitement and enthusiasm and
helping the day run smoothly by assisting with the organising before and on the day
the staff who provided interesting and engaging classroom
opportunities, became car park guides and made the concert such a success
HCCS parents for providing a wonderful morning tea and
Meryl, Deb, Alicia and many others for organizing the ‘goodies’
Blessings,

The Parent Business Directory for 2016 was sent home last week via class baskets to the oldest child in the family.
This information was collated from the slips we had returned late last term. Some families have chosen not to put their details in, which is why some businesses are not listed.
If you would like a printed copy there are spares in the Front Office.
Thank you Ingrid and Sean! HCCS staff honoured and thanked our recently retired school cleaners, Ingrid and Sean. They have been very
diligent and hard working cleaners who have taken great pride to make sure classrooms were always clean and tidy
and ready for student learning for over 10 years! They
retire to continue their other lives with TAFE (Sean), painting (Ingrid) and their family.

The Year 5 and Year 6 Scientists have been
focussing on their Science Inquiry Skills by
investigating ‘AIR’.
We have questioned, predicted, planned, conducted and sorted information to find out how we can look after our environment now and in the future.
Through a variety of problem solving activities, investigations and fair tests, we have learnt about the properties of air, what air in our atmosphere is made of, as well as invisible and visible air pollution.
We discussed a recent article from the Weekend Australian, which noted that a school in New Delhi had a ‘No Air Filter Mask, No Play’ policy, just like our ‘No Hat, No Play’ policy at HCCS! So we decided to set up a fair test to discover what the air quality is like around our
School.
Unfortunately, we could only measure visible air pollutants using Vaseline coated cards placed around the school, and although we tried to keep all our variables the same, apart from their location, we encountered a few issues that made our test ‘unfair’.
We have enjoyed sorting the data and representing the data graphically.
Ellie and Ella then decided to write to Mr Lions our Groundsman (see below)
Dear Mr Lions,
Thank you for letting us put our “pollution catcher” on the side of your ride on mower. We thought you would be interested in our results.
We found that you are taking a large amount of pollution in whilst you are driving around the School on your mower. We understand that your throat Is not made out of Vaseline but you are still breathing in a lot of pollution! We hope you have some sort of mask so that when you are driving around the School you are not breathing in as much pollution.
We have attached a photo of how we sorted our class data together, and then how Jet chose to represent the data. We accidently called your mower a tractor! Thanks again!
Ellie and Ella – Year 6
Last term, in our Year 3 and Year 4 Christian Ed Rotations we learnt about the story of Joshua and how God made him a leader of the people of Israel because he trusted God. We noticed that God told Joshua to be strong and brave twice, and when God says something twice it must be pretty important so we should take notice.
To help us remember this, we made a Möbius strip with our memory verse on it to help us remember that God's
promises are never ending.
Our memory verse was, "Be strong and brave. Don't ever be afraid or discouraged! I am the Lord your God, and I will be there to help you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
Reflections from the students:
"We made the strips so that we don't forget God and we remember his promise." Alexander
"We know that Jesus is around and He reminds us that we can be brave." Sarah
“God is eternal and He will love you forever." Harry
"We made the strips to remind us to be brave and not afraid because God is always with us." Gabby

Hosting 400+ Grandparents is no small task. Our HEARTFELT THANKS to the 100+ families who supplied a plate of deliciousness, the 14 Hosts PLUS 16 SRC Reps and House Leaders and the Year 5, Year 6 and Year 7 students who set up, served and cleaned up after the Morning Tea. Hands That Love us! The Year 3 children drew their grandparent’s hand and thanked them for something while the grandparent drew their grandchild’s hand and added a prayer of blessing or a hope for their future.
