The International Paris Air Show is the world’s premier aerospace event. For this 47th edition, TWIST had to take part in this key business platform for aerospace professionals.

TWIST, medium-sized company based in Lyon (France), is a significant player in french air navigation sector: ADP (Aéroports de Paris), DGAC-DAC (National Civil Aviation – Regional Civil Aviation Directions), DGAC-DNSA-DTI (National Civil Aviation – Air Navigation Services Direction – Technical and Innovation Direction).

This national success has come along with a strong international development of the activities for three years. Among our references: Rohde & Schwarz in Uzbekistan, the Office National des Aéroports (National Airport Authority) in Morocco, etc.

This successful exportation outcome partly rely on the last TWIST innovation: the mobile ATC tower, TMT 13500, to be exhibited on Le Bourget.

A mobile ATC tower is the suitable solution for airport backup and emergency operations in both military and civil sectors.Thanks to such a system, air navigation safety may be rapidly set up on any type of sites.

Constantly looking for innovations, TWIST designed the TMT 13500 in order to increase performances of a mobile system and improve its flexibility and comfort: elevation height, autonomy, ability to be transported. Gathering unequaled technical features, the TMT 13500 is an advanced solution on this market.

- Height ajustable up to 13,8 meters

The TMT 13500 provides an operational height up to 13 meters for the controllers settled down in the control cabin. This characteristic extends the application scope of a mobile system, until now limited to 7 meters high.

- transportable by air, road and sea

Designed to provide a minimal size in the transport mode, the TMT 13500 when folded down is 40 feet.

Suited for haulage, it is towed by a single standard vehicle.

The TMT 13500 is transportable by air in a Hercules C130 and is transportable by shipping.

- completely autonomous and self-contained

The TMT 13500 is a one and only system equipped with its own power supply. It does not required any further lift equipment and is fitted with a scissor platform of access to the control cabin.

- rapid and flexible deployment

Tower deployment is realized in less than 2 hours by 2 people. After an operation, the transport mode is recovered in less than 1 hour.

- high performance equipment

All equipment required to provide ATC services, selected among the most competitive, are set in the control cabin. Designed for controller’s comfort, the control cabin may accomodate up to three operators.

A mobile ATC tower ?

The ATC tower TMT 13500© was designed to provide ATC services in all situations requiring mobility, autonomy and rapidity :

Military applications

- Temporary operations on remote located, underequipped or temporary runway

- Rapid deployments for emergency missions :

- Relief operations (natural disaster, forest fire,…),

- ATC back-up on airport where the main tower is damaged.

- Tactical operations (rapid relocation of the TMT 13500)

Civil applications

- Replacement of a permanent non-operating tower damaged or undergoing renovation works

- Temporary ATC facility shared by several airports to ensure ATC services in case of :

- Airport modernization

- Airport expansion

- Temporary ATC tower on big events (sportive meetings, aeronautic shows)

General concept

The mobile tower TMT 13500 concept relies on a scissors lift – mounted cabin system integrated to a trailer. The tower is equipped with a power supply generator that provides an autonomous power supply of all the elements responsible for the deployment and the operation of the tower.

The control cabin is equipped with all the equipment required to provide ATC services: radiocommunication system, aerial system, meteorological station and display equipment, time distribution system, recorders, as well as all the accessories required for the controllers comfort.

Thanks to the double scissors lifting system, the tower can be elevated up to 13.8 meters at the rate of 4m/mn. As a result, the mobile ATC tower TMT 13500 provides an operational height adjustable to more than 13 meters for the controllers settled down in the cabin.

Thanks to its experience in air navigation sector for both military and civil aviation, TWIST is now strengthening its international activities through its Radionavigation Department.

TWIST STORY Responsiveness and innovation since 1996

1996 ] TWIST begins its activities in the telecomunication sector for the main GSM operators in France and in the European Union, providing integrated solutions and services in diversified fields such as radio, electricity, civil engineering, metallic structures, etc.

2000 ] Looking for diversification and consolidation of its organization, TWIST creates two sections : an Engineering Office and a Tender Office, and opens its first subsidiary in Paris.

2002/2003 ] Following its growing success in the transmissions field and above all in Ground-Air Communications activities, TWIST Managers give a new orientation to the company investing in Air Navigation activities.

2004/2005 ] Efforts in Research&Development drive to the development of innovative ATC towers : turnkey ATC towers, mobile ATC towers. TWIST opens its third agency in France, in Bordeaux, and representations in Morocco and Brazil.
