Welcome to the 32nd Boulder Bach Festival, a season that focuses on the musical contexts that inspired and informed Bach’s genius and connected him to the broader world of his time. Our season also reflects additional concerts, events and activities as we expand our own context and presence on the Front Range.
We open the season with Fall Chamber Concerts that feature the Festival Players and highlight the world of concerti in which Bach lived. Works by Corelli, Vivaldi and Handel surround a core of Bach favorites. We are particularly excited to hold our opening concerts this season in Longmont, Denver and Boulder.
In December, our Festival Chamber Choir returns to the Longmont Council for the Arts’ Friday Afternoon Concerts for a performance of seasonal goodies that include Bach, some traditional fare and Mexican Baroque selections.
During our Festival Week, we present the magnificent St. John Passion. Our wonderful Festival Chorus, Festival Players and gifted soloists look forward to these performances in Denver and Boulder. The context theme returns earlier that week, too, with a concert that features Buxtehude as well as organ chorale preludes on chorales that appear in the Passion.
Kids For Bach presents selected young talent performing works of Bach in February; Bach For Kids presents talented adult performers in an educational event for kids of all ages in May. This year’s Bach in the Community series features not only our outstanding artists, but also a group of musicians selected from the Kids for Bach program, all giving brief performances in cafés, hotel lobbies and other venues.
And in June, we begin a new endeavor, Bach Camp!—a weeklong event for serious students focusing on Baroque string and harpsichord continuo techniques. We’ll draw students from across the Front Range as we seek to develop strong Baroque talent. Please join us for the public concert at the conclusion of this week.
This season provides a fine variety of offerings for appreciating Bach’s genius, experiencing his music and understanding the world in which he lived. We look forward to sharing all of this with you and thank you for your generous support.
