The activities included building a spaghetti bridge, making a tower from newspaper to support the weight of a
basketball, inventing a car that could be propelled over a distance of two metres, constructing a freestanding
tower from jelly beans and toothpicks, designing a ball drop and catapault. It was a great day with the
Delegate students and many laughs were had as ‘creations’ were tested.

From Jo’s Desk...
Dear Parents and Community Members During the year, our staff are out of school for various reasons including training courses and sometimes due to illness. When this happens, we are fortunate to be able to employ casual teachers to ensure our normal school routines and programs are implemented. Sometimes this may not be as smooth as we would like, as our teachers cannot plan for emergencies or illnesses, and the casual teacher replacing them may have to improvise and not fully understand the set routines of the particular class they are teaching. We have been very lucky to have outstanding causal teachers in our employ, who work effectively and efficiently while ensuring our students have a teacher every day they are at school. During recent weeks staff we have noticed that students are bringing iPads, phones, DS Nintendo’s and other technology devices to school. These items are not only distracting to your child’s learning but also expensive items which could be easily broken, damaged or stolen. If your child brings any of these devices to school, we will not accept responsibility for or investigate any loss, damage or theft. Some children bring devices for their bus trip to and from school. These children are responsible and leave their devices at the front office during the day and pick them up in the afternoon - this is very reasonable. If your child needs to contact you or request items to be dropped at school, they can ask office staff to phone. Phones at school are not necessary – please leave them at home. Over the past few weeks, we have been involved in many activities. These activities have not only been entertaining but also provided our students with a range of opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge. Last week we were delighted to join with Delegate for our STEM day. Tonight we will be holding our end of semester ‘Disco’ in the High School Canteen from 5.00pm – 7.00pm. We hope all students K-6 can join us for this fun evening. Please bring a plate of healthy party food to share and a gold coin donation toward the cost of the DJ. This Thursday, Years 5, 6 and 7 students from across the Bombala Learning Community will participate in the Term 2 Middle School Day to be held at Bombala High School. This term we are once again focusing on Physical Literacy – designing games and investigating movement competencies. We are looking forward to an action packed day. By the end of each term we seem to have accumulated a ‘clothing shop’ full of lost property. If your child has lost any items of clothing please come and check the lost property room located between the girls and boys toilet blocks. Next Friday 6th July we would like to invite Grandparents, Parents, Families and Community Members to our Term 2 Learning Journey, with a visit to open classrooms from 10.30 – 11.30 after which morning tea, a cuppa and a cupcake will be served to all students and visitors. We cordially invite all visitors to stay and attend the whole school assembly with performances from Kindergarten, the Band and our community singing group. We would like to remind you that the Year 6 Major Raffle will be drawn at this assembly. Please ensure your raffle tickets are returned before this date. We hope you can join us for these events. Until next week Kind regards Jo

Delegate Dress up Day
On the morning of Thursday 21st June, Kindergarten and Year One were hyped with delight for their journey to
Delegate, to participate in a combined Delegate and Bombala schools ‘Toy Workshop’. Costumes were dazzling and
smiles were aplenty as we waited to board the bus.
The morning began with rotational activities where students worked in groups learning about and investigating the
evolution of toys, various types of Indigenous toys, building with toys, as well as mathematical and literacy based toy
games. After recess it was movie time. The students were overjoyed for Toy Story 2, and particularly for their surprise
movie snack.
Lunch time allowed our students to experience the open spaces and beautiful landscape within Delegate Public School,
whilst enjoying the opportunity to make and play with new friends. After lunch, was toy-making time. Students had
been movie-stars earlier in the day, posing for the camera. Their photo was enhanced and printed in black and white for
the students to cut and create a puzzle.
A wonderful day was had by all and huge thanks must be given to Hannah for her super ideas and organisation, as well
as, Selina, Dennielle and the brilliant staff at Delegate Public School for their assistance on the day. Also a big thank you
to Kay and Jan, for assisting our Kinders and Year 1’s for contributing to our fantastic day.

Kindergarten have been learning about ‘Lives Past and Present’, so Brynn Kidman invited his “Great Grand-
father” - Mr Moreing to come to school and share some memories of his school days. He told us, “that in his
day, the school at Cathcart didn’t have a school uniform and boys were caned when they did the wrong
thing.” He remembered some boys dipping flies and the ends of girl’s plaits into the inkwells that were in
each desk. He played cricket and football, usually in the horse paddock. Some children, (including his wife)
rode horses to school and let them go in the horse paddock to graze while they were in class. Mr Moreing
milked cows in the family dairy before walking a mile to school. Some days he would be late for school be-
cause he had to drive the sulky and take the cream from the dairy into Cathcart where it was collected and
taken to the butter factory at Candelo. He didn't like Thursdays because that is when the class did poetry
and geometry. Mr Moreing was very interesting and has promised to come back to school and answer more
of our students questions.
REMINDER—SKIING TERM 3 PERMISSION NOTES MUST BE RETURNED TO OFFICE BY THIS

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) ...
Five PBL awards are presented in each class group over a two week period to students for displaying any PBL
value in or out of the classroom. These awards are presented at the Friday morning Assembly.
Congratulations to our PBL Award winners. Once a student has collected one of each PBL Value, they will
earn a Super PBL Award. Please keep these awards in a safe place, as they are cumulative, and can be
collected over the period of a year or more.
Sand Ticket Winners - acknowledging
students who have demonstrated one
or more of the PBL values.

Peer Support Session 2 - Strong me!
Our session this week for students involved in Stronger Together - our Peer Support module, encourages students to identify their
personal strengths as a key protective factor to address bullying and looks at ways of utilising these positive attributes to support
themselves and others to build resilience. Parents of participating students might like to ask what they said or thought their strengths
might be and suggest some more.

Our beautiful friend Kyla, from Berridale NSW, has recently been
diagnosed with MLD - Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD) is a
rare, genetic, degenerative, neurometabolic disorder that affects
approximately one in 40,000 people (primarily children)
worldwide. At present, it is a disease for which there is no cure.
Kyla's condition has progressed significantly in the past few
months.
Our aim is to raise important funds for the family so that we can
ease their financial burdens, provide specialist items and
equipment and to allow them to spend precious time with Kyla.
