The Asociación Pro Niños Quemados de Nicaragua, APROQUEN, initiated during the second semester of the year a prevention campaign targeted to elementary schools, in order to teach young children to recognize the risks of burn injuries. The campaign's strategy is composed of an educational segment that includes a test that measures their knowledge about the risk factors they encounter at home. In addition, the children are also given crayons and coloring books that contain messages related to preventive measures. Also and in much the same way, skits are presented to teach children how to react upon a possible accident. Towards the end of the Campaign in November of this year, more than two thousand children will have received the message replicating it in their homes and communities.
