Cala en Porter, ¿población dormitorio con residentes de paso? No hay duda que Cala en Porter apareció como un núcleo costero con un claro propósito turístico, con el paso del tiempo la población residente ha pasado por muchas etapas. Desde gente venida por razones laborales hasta tener una significativa población residente, heterogénea, plurinacional y con gran diversidad de idiomas, creencias y tradiciones.

Todo esto hace que tener una identidad unificada sea muy complicado; mientras el “sentimiento Cala en Porter” existe entre la gente nacida y criada aquí, o aquellos que sienten arraigo tras el paso de los años resulta que la comunidad va creciendo más rápidamente que este sentimiento.

Mucha de la gente que aquí reside no sabe durante cuánto tiempo lo hará, y quizás; sólo quizá, tan sólo estén de paso. Mientras me pregunto del compromiso de la gente que aquí reside, mientras dudo en ocasiones de su compromiso con la comunidad o entorno en el que residen no puedo perder de vista, que esta población sólo tiene 50 años; que aún deberán de pasar muchos más para una mayor involucración de la gente.

También es importante resaltar una característica que posiblemente sea muy importante a la hora de clasificar la gente que aquí vive; en su mayoría han decidido venir a CP por su tranquilidad y vida pausada. Es cierto que muchos de los extranjeros jubilados que decidieron asentarse aquí para su retiro posiblemente no buscaban involucrarse en una comunidad; ni formar parte de un grupo, tan sólo disfrutar de un apacible y rico bienestar al sol.

Es muy probable, que muchos de los nuevos residentes quiénes han comprado su vivienda en los últimos tiempos hayan optado por no mezclarse en los temas de la urbanización, y están en su pleno derecho de hacerlo; pero sin la unidad necesaria jamás solventaremos las necesidades que TODOS tenemos en CP; y quizá (sólo quizá) el IBI seguirá subiendo, las tasas municipales incrementarán, los servicios menguarán, las necesidades incrementarán; y quizá ¿NADIE luchará por ello?

Desde la A.VV proponemos una involucración total, queremos solventar los problemas y necesidades de la urbanización, pero necesitamos del apoyo y ayuda de todos; sin el “TODOS” opino que la A.VV no tienen razón de ser. Lo más lógico sería que todos los residentes, todos los afectados del día a día sean actores en la creación de futuro pero no todos quieren eso.

Hay gente que opta por no opinar, no involucrarse y aunque no lo crea esa también es una decisión, deciden no hacer NADA.

Cala en Porter, a Commuters only Dormitory Town? It’s no secret that Cala en Porter’s origin is that of a coastal tourist resort and as time passed the resident population grew, founded mainly by people who were living here purely for work purposes; eventually becoming business owners and fulltime residents. Nowadays the permanent population is a mixture of nationalities, languages, religions and diverse cultures and traditions. This makes it very hard for our town to have a unified identity since there is no evident common bond, although that bond should be Cala en Porter itself! While there is an existing feeling of forming part of Cala en Porter, that Cala en Porter is their home town, amongst the people who were born and/or raised here, and even in those who have lived here for a long time, this sentiment grows slower than the population does. Many of the residents don’t really know how long they will be residing in CP, maybe they are just passing through.While I query people’s commitment to Cala en Porter and it’s community I can’t help but remind myself that Cala en Porter is a `young` town, and really 50 years aren’t a lot; aren’t enough. Perhaps Cala en Porter needs to be a lot older before the community spirit develops. It’s also important to bear in mind that many of the people who moved to CP did so for its tranquillity and easy-paced life. Many who chose to retire here possibly do not want to get involved in community matters, or form part of a social group but simply enjoy an easy-going and pleasant life in the sun. Of course, everyone can choose whether or not to get involved with the Association, but we really need to be untied to improve the town and make it better for all of us. Without Unity, it will be difficult to solve Cala en Porter’s problems and attend to its needs that affect ALL of US who live here. Perhaps the town hall taxes will keep rising, municipal costs too and services chopped-down and maybe our needs as a community will continuously increase.Who will fight to prevent that from happening if the Neighbours’ Association disappears? The Neighbours’ Association would like full involvement from the community, we want to attend and try to solve the problems Cala en Porter has, but we need EVERYONE’S help and support. Without EVERYONE, the Association lacks true meaning. Ideally all CP residents should have a saying in their future since it affects all of us directly, but not everyone thinks alike. But please, if you can, attend the meeting on the 27th of January, and think about joining the committee or offering to help. Or just come along and let us know your thoughts and opinions. The Neighbours` Association needs you! Your opinion is important too! Together we can make Cala en Porter a better place for us all to live.





El Futuro de la A.VV, ¿Tiene futuro?... ¿Quién?... ¿Cómo? Tras la celebración de la Asamblea General de Octubre a la cuál vinieron pocos socios, pocos residentes e incluso pocos políticos (Sra. Alcaldesa M. Sugrañes y Sr. Concejal R.Ferrer), además del repaso anual de actividades pudimos evidenciar y poner de manifiesto algunos problemas. La gente y la Junta expresó su malestar por algunas situaciones y cuestiones recurrentes; MANCHA ALGAS EN LA CALA, FALTA POLICÍA Y PATRULLA CON HORARIOS PREVISIBLES, RECORTE HORARIOS Ib-SALUT, SUELO SALA POLIVALENTE, SUCIEDAD DE CONTENEDORES, Horarios Recogida de Basuras, Además de algunos temas históricos que parecen aparecer en todas las Asambleas (Autobús, falta inversión municipal, Punt verd, antigua Depuradora, etc …) Algunos recordarán que la A.VV presentó un portfolio de +700 (Nov 2011) fotos de reparaciones necesarias en la urbanización, la Alcaldesa no confirmó que en Enero 2013 comenzarán a trabajar en ello mediante la empresa concesionaria del servicio Mantenimiento Urbanizaciones. Además, el Ayto. está mirando de solucionar el tema del piso de la Sala Polivalente.

Hasta aquí el resumen de la Asamblea; y ahora: ¿qué? La actual junta cuenta con pocas manos, pocos voluntarios y aparentemente muy pocos ánimos para continuar, entonces debería de conformarse un nuevo grupo de trabajo; en Enero se celebrará una Asamblea Extraordinaria para votar una nueva JUNTA siempre y cuando haya candidaturas. Pero de no ser así, ¿qué sucede con la A.VV, con el trabajo y las

metas conseguidas hasta la fecha?, ¿Desaparecerán las Fiestas de CP?, ya nadie representará los intereses colectivos de Cala en Porter? Desde la actual Junta, vemos nuestros puntos débiles: Para empezar fue una Junta de Emergencia para solventar una Dimisión, algunos no vivimos en Cala en Porter, Otros no tienen tiempo para atender a las obligaciones de la A.VV y otros sencillamente no sabemos hacerlo mejor.

Asamblea General – 27 Oct 12 Asistencia Total: 37 Rep. Municipales: 2 Rep. JUNTA A.VV: 5 La Asamblea transcurrió con normalidad y poca afluencia de gente ya fuera por falta de interés o inclemencias meteorológicas. Nadie presentó candidaturas a JUNTA A.VV





Otra debilidad es no conseguir conectar con la gente de Cala en Porter, a pesar del incremento de actividades, esfuerzos, emails y boletines nunca conseguimos reacción. La gente además debe participar más, hay un calendario anual de actividades tremendo y los que recordamos CP hace 10 años o más atrás nos sorprendemos gratamente.

Recuerdo cuando en 2011 organizamos la primera Torrada de St. Antoni, había muchas dudas en cuánto a la asistencia, sabíamos cuál era la población residente de Cala en Porter; pero fuimos excesivamente conservadores con la compra y el resultado fue que la Cerveza se acabó mucho antes que tuviéramos ocasión de echar la primera sobrasada al fuego, el pan se agotó en minutos y tuvimos que pedir muchísimos favores; con vecinos trayendo su propio pan de casa, aportando vino, cerveza, etc… pero fue un éxito. Al año siguiente no faltó de nada y la asistencia de público fue aún mayor, posiblemente este mes de Enero suceda lo mismo. ¿Sería posible pensar en una asistencia similar a una reunión de vecinos o llamada de Ayuda?

What of the Association’s Future? …Who? … When? … How? During October’s disappointing AGM, with very few people attending, a few members and neighbours and only two politicians; (Mayoress Mrs. Coia Sugrañes and Counsellor Mr. Roger Ferrer) we ran through the annual activities but mostly the attendants expressed their worry regarding several topics: THE DISCOLOURATION OF THE WATER CAUSED BY ALGAE DURING THE SUMMER IN THE BAY, LACK AND REDUCTION OF POLICE ROUNDS, ALSO POLICE REPETETIVE & PREDICTABLE TIMETABLES, REDUCED DOCTORS VISITING TIMES, FLOOR OF THE HALL-SALA POLIVALENT, LACK OF MAINTENANCE, RUBBISH CONTAINERS, NEW TIMES FOR THE RUBBISH COLLECTION, and of course other problems which repeat themselves year after year, AGM after AGM (Abandoned sewage plant, Punt Verd (Where we could take our garden rubbish), lack municipal investment in CP, Bus winter timetable, etc…) Some may remember, how in Nov 2011, the A.VV presented the Town hall with a Portfolio over 700 photos of maintenance jobs needed to be done. The Mayoress confirmed these repairs will begin in January ’13, Alaior is also looking into repairing the floor of the Hall – Sala Polivalent.

So far the AGM, But what’s next? The present Committee has few members, a reduced amount of volunteers, not enough time or hands and is possibly paying the Price. A new team must be created, in January an Extraordinary AGM will be taking place to choose and vote for a new





Committee, so long there are Candidates. But what happens if nobody comes forward? … Does that mean all the work so far is wasted? Goals achieved by prior Committees are lost? Do the Fiestas disappear too? Will nobody represent Cala en Porter’s Common interests?

The present Committee is aware of its weaknesses; this work group was created as an emergency, after the former President quit; some of us don’t even live in Cala en Porter. Other members have severe lack of time to attend A.VV Obligations, and others simply do it the best we can.

Another weakness is not being able to connect with more CP residents, despite attempts, increment of activities, public & free celebrations, e-mails, bulletins we don’t seem to receive feedback and/or reaction.

People should participate more; in CP we have a great annual calendar of activities which was unthinkable 10 years ago. I remember in January 2011, we had organized the first ever St. Antoni Bonfire and we had so many doubts about the amount of people who would attend to this mid-winter menorcan tradition and although we were aware of the Town’s winter population we were excessively conservative with the supplies. All the beer finished before the first “Sobrasada” even hit the fire, only minutes after beginning the barbecue we ran out of bread so neighbours and attendants helped out by bringing bread and wine from their homes, we also borrowed drinks from every bar open in town. Regardless the activity was a success. The following year we stocked up well, more people attended and it was more of a success, and hopefully the result in January will be similar. Would it be Possible to have so many people turn up to a Neighbours meeting or to a Call for Help?

Nueva Ordenanza Municipal | Cerramiento de parcelas A new Municipal Order | Enclosure of plots

A partir de la fecha en que se publique en el BOIB entrará en vigor esta ordenanza que afectará las parcelas d todo el Municipio de Alaior, de manera diferente en cada núcleo (CP, Son Bou, Alaior, Cales Coves, etc…) En Cala en Porter, las parcelas deberán de cerrarse con un muro de construcción; se recomienda el uso de la tradicional ”Pared Seca” o biende revocado pintado de blanco y colores de la gamma Tierra.

El muro no podrá exceder 1.40m de altura y podrá llegar a 2.40m mediante el uso de vegetación.

Las multas serán de 300 a 3.000€ según el caso, atendiendo a la peligrosidad, reincidencia, etc.. Starting from the date of publication in the BOIB (The official bulletin from the Balearic Goverment) an order will come into force that will affect the all of the plots in Alaior - differently in each nucleus (Cala en Porter, Son Bou, Alaior, Cales Coves, etc) In Cala en Porter, the plots should be enclosed with a wall, and the order recommends the traditional "Dry stone Wall" or rendered block wall painted white and earthy colors. The wall can not exceed 1.40m in height although it can be made up to 2.40m by using vegetation.

The fines for not complying will be between 300 and 3,000 € depending on the case, based on dangerousness, recurrence, etc.

What is the activity?

The activity is designed with the idea of helping to

improve and resolve the most significant problems

or needs that a child in school may have . It is made

up of various workshops:

need related to language and communication

(dyslexia, dysgraphia, language delay, literacy

objetivo de potenciar

aprendizajes significativos,

interactivos y lúdicos.

Weekly Activities | La semana |Cala en Porter

Los Lunes comienzan con clases de inglés, Eva la profesora tiene un reducido grupo

que practica y mejora su conocimiento de la lengua. Por la noche las Chicas de Batuka

se organizan para hacer ejercicio, durante una hora casi cada de día de la semana

intentan ponerse ne forma; al igual que hacen los martes, miércoles y jueves.

Line Dancing se ha convertido en una actividad muy popular en Menorca, los miércoles

por la mañana en la Sala lo practica un buen grupo.

Por segundo año, Jessica lleva el grupo de Sevillanas con mucho éxito de participación y

satisfacción.

La Danza árabe es otra actividad que se repite, y dónde hay plazas para apuntarse; la

noche sigue con más Batuka.





El Jueves arranca con Batuka, por la tarde el grupo de Yoga se relaja y ejercita

mientras los residentes extranjeros aprenden más Castellano con la profesora Eva.

El Viernes cuenta de nuevo con Sevillanas, y de seguida la Ludoteca organizada por

Voluntarios y la Trabajadora Social de Alaior – Encarna; se ocupa de un nutrido grupo

de niños y niñas.Mientras a las 16:30 tiene lugar Refuerzo Escolar, una actividad para

ayudar a los chicos y Chicas de Cala en Porter que puedan tener algún tipo de

dificultad en la Escuela.

Los Fines de Semana, la Sala está Disponible para su uso y los Domingos, bajo la

supervisión de padres, se encuentran un pequeño grupo de niñ@s para Bailar y

entertenerse

En Cala en Porter, no hay porqué aburrirse en invierno!

The Association has organized a weekly programme of activities taking into account the

resident population.

Batuka/Keep Fit is run by the Girls and takes place almost every day during an

hour, Monday also sees English Speaking classes, Tuesday morning a little more

Keep Fit and on Wednesday Line Dancing , an activity which has become very popular

lately. Wednesday afternoon Jessica runs the Sevillanas Group (Flamenco Dancing)

followed by Oriental/Belly Dancing (places availables) and more Batuka.

Thursday is filled with Keep Fit, Yoga and Spanish Classes; No excuse for you now!

On Friday afternoon the second weekly session of Sevillanas, followed by Ludoteca, a

Children’s play/entertainment group run by Encarna – Alaior’s Social Worker and

Parent’s who’ve Volunteered. Also available and very interesting for children who are

having learning problems at school is Academic Support.

On Sundays, a group of kids meet up for some dancing and fun at the Hall, supervised

by parents.

El sábado 8/12 se celebrará el Segundo mercadillo de este tipo; en el cuál los asistentes y participantes podrán vender o intercambiar enseres y objetos que ya no deseen utilizar. Es una buena fecha aprovechando la proximidad de las navidades. On Saturday 8th December the second exchange market will be taking place,

people will have the chance to buy/sell/barter during the day. A very appropriate date considering Christmas is coming up.

DECORACIÓN NAVIDEÑA. Esta año hemos solicitado la instalación de un Árbol de Navidad en la Plaza del pueblo; el Ayto. Alaior está en ello. Para la decoración hemos pensado que los propios niños y niñas de Cala en Porter sean los encargados de darle color. El Taller será Gratuito y divertido; Así que familias de Cala en Porter animarse para decorar el árbol de la Plaza.

Children’S CHRISTMAS DECORATION WORKSHOP

We’ve applied for Alaior Town Hall to set-up an outdoors Christmas tree for the Plaça Gran and we’ll take care of the decorating. We decided CP’s Kids ought to decorate it. This family activity will be free and fun; so Parents and Kids get ready.

Santa Claus and the “Paje Real” will be visiting CP, usual agreement regarding food (Parents) Drinks (A.VV). Spanish Kids get their presents from the 3 kings on the 6th Jan, before that each kid writes a letter telling the Kings of his good behaviour and good deeds during the year, followed by the Presents he/she would like to receive.

The Royal Page collects the letter for the Kings during his visit.
