LIGHTWEIGHT BODY FILLER

Polyester and epoxy resins have certain things in common, but each also has its own character-istics. Polyester is ideal: As a repair for all kinds of surfaces, such as plaster, fiberglass, aluminum and woods (except redwood and close-grained woods like oak or cedar. Do not use with styrofoam.) Used for structural repairs using fiberglass cloth or mat where high impact resistance is critical. As a protective, waterproof coating and sealer.

White pigmented polyester gelcoat. Resilient high grade marine gelcoat. Excellent finish coat over all polyester resins, wood, fiberglass, and metals. For repair or fabrication. Wax additive included.

The Gelcoat to use when you can't or don't want to spray it on. It can be used over interior or exterior Gelcoat. It is self levelling leaving no brush strokes behind and hardens tack free without adding any wax or additional products to "cure" the surface. This is a great product for painting patches and repairs. It can also be rolled on. Includes hardener.

BRUSHABLE GELCOAT

A Rock and a Hard PlacePolyester Resins are the most com-monly used type of resin for marine applications. The addition of MEK-P catalyzes a chemical reaction that causes the resin to solidify into a rigid, somewhat brittle material. Polyester resins are the most economical of the three types of resins. They are very often used in the construction of new vessels. Most gelcoats are based on polyester resins. Gelcoats are specially pigmented resin formulations containing various additives that make them appropriate for use as a finish coat. Polyester resins are not suitable for use with carbon fiber.

Polyester resins cure with a few drops of an organic peroxide catalyst.

Polyester resins are not waterproof. Improper use may cause blistering.

105 Resin is formulated without volatile solvents and does not shrink after curing. It has a relatively high flash point and no strong solvent odour. 105 Resin is designed specifically to wet out and bond with wood fiber, fiberglass, reinforcing fabrics and a variety of metals when mixed at the proper ratio with a West System hardener. An excellent adhesive, 105 mixtures will bridge gaps and fill voids when modified with West System fillers and can be sanded and shaped when cured. With roller applications, it has excellent thin-film characteristics to flow out and self-level without "fish-eyeing." 105 Resin/207 Hardener mixtures cure clear so you can achieve a natural finish when coating with varnish.

Bond.... Strong Bond.Epoxy Resins are the toughest type of resin. They bond extremely well to many other materials. Epoxy resin also offers the most resist-ance to water absorption. It is activated by a hardener. Epoxy has great versatility because it can be easily mixed with various fillers that change its characteristics to make it suitable for a wide range of uses. Epoxy resins are more expensive than other type of resin. They do not provide any significant UV protection - they need to be covered by paint, varnish or some other material or some other protective coating when exposed to sunlight. You should excercise care and caution if you decide to use a polyester-based resin overtop an epoxy-based product.

Epoxy is the strongest, most durable resin. It forms very strong bonds with most materials.

Epoxy begins to cure when a hardener is mixed with the resin in a specific ratio.

Epoxy must be protected from UV light. Paint or marine varnish will do the trick.
