1. Call to Order

1.1 Board Chair Harris called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. Father Dean Dowle began the meeting with the Opening Prayer.

1.2 Treaty Six Acknowledgement

Board Chair Harris acknowledged that we are on the traditional land of Treaty 6 and home of Métis Nation of Alberta Zone 4. We also acknowledge the Inuit and other diverse Indigenous peoples whose ancestors have marked this territory for centuries, a place that has welcomed many peoples from around the world to make their home here. We, at Edmonton Catholic Schools, commit to restoring and honouring the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action; we strongly believe that truth must be acknowledged to move forward to reconciliation. Together we call upon all our collective communities to build a stronger understanding of all peoples who dwell on this land we call home.

1.4 Approval of the Agenda Trustee Mutala moved that the Board approves the agenda of the December 12, 2017 Public

There were no matters arising from the minutes. 1.6 Tribute to Chief Financial Officer Devlin Superintendent Carr recognized and thanked Chief Financial Officer Barry Devlin, who is

retiring at the end of January 2018, for his contributions to Edmonton Catholic Schools for the past eight and a half years.

Partnerships, Research and Strategies The Board of Trustees acknowledged receipt of the report Enhancing Services for our

Students and Creating Efficiencies: Collaborations, Partnerships, Research and Strategies for information purposes.

Trustee Thibert moved that the Chair, Board of Trustees, provides the Minister of Education with a copy of the report Enhancing Services for our Students and Creating Efficiencies: Collaborations, Partnerships, Research and Strategies, as evidence of Edmonton Catholic School District’s efforts to find, create and nourish collaborative relationships within local school communities and throughout Edmonton and Alberta. B. Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action in Edmonton Catholic

Schools The Board of Trustees acknowledged receipt of the report Truth and Reconciliation

Commission of Canada Calls to Action in Edmonton Catholic Schools for information purposes.

Trustee Thibert moved that the Board Chair provides the Minister of Indigenous Relations, the Minister of Education, and the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs, with a copy of the report Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action in Edmonton Catholic Schools, as evidence of Edmonton Catholic School Districts’ many actions in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action - Education for Reconciliation. Carried

2.2 Presentation and Review of Accountability Reports A. Human Resource Services Annual Report 2017-2018 Trustee Mutala moved that, based on the evidence provided in Annual Report –

Human Resource Services 2017-18, the Board of Trustees determines that the following twelve (12) Quality Indicators have been met, as per Board Policy 12 – Appendix B, relative to the current evaluation period.

QI 1.3 Ensures religious celebrations and social justice are organized by schools and departments.

QI 1.4 Facilitates cooperative religious initiatives involving school, home and parish. QI 1.6 Ensures that hiring and promotion practices support the Catholic Aspect of our

District’s mission. QI 3.1 Develops measurements and monitors progress relative to providing a

welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment. QI 3.2 Provides analysis of incident reports. QI 3.3 Implements the requirements of Occupational Health and Safety legislation,

including required staff professional development. QI 4.4 Ensures all collective agreements and contracts are being administered and

interpreted so staff and contracted personnel are being paid appropriately and appropriate deductions are being made.

QI 5.1 Develops and effectively implements quality recruitment, orientation, staff development, disciplinary, evaluation and supervisory processes.

QI 5.2 Models commitment to personal and professional growth QI 5.4 Provides for training of administrators and the development of leadership

capacity within the District. QI 5.5 Keeps current and ensures adherence to human resources administrative

procedures. QI 10.2 Manages conflict effectively. Carried

2.3 Personnel Matter – Extension of Superintendent Contract to August 31, 2020. Trustee Palazzo moved that the Board of Trustees of Edmonton Catholic Separate

School District #7 extends the term of the Superintendent’s contract of employment until August 31, 2020, and authorizes the Chair to execute all the necessary documentation to give effect to the same.

3. Celebration of #ECSDfaithinspires: 3.1 Board Chair Report The Board of Trustees acknowledged receipt of the Board Chair’s Report on #ECSDfaithinspires

for the period of December 13, 2017 to January 18, 2018. 3.2 Superintendent Report The Board of Trustees acknowledged receipt of the report Superintendent’s Report on

#ECSDfaithinspires – December 13, 2017 - January 19, 2018 for information purposes.
