CTBUH is the world’s leading resource for professionals focused on the inception, design, construction, and opera-tion of tall buildings and future cities. Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Chicago, CTBUH is a not-for-profit organization that facilitates the exchange of the latest knowledge available on tall buildings around the world through publications, research, events, working groups, web resources, and an extensive network of international representatives. Its research department is spearheading the investigation of the next generation of tall buildings, while its free database on tall buildings, The Skyscraper Center, is updated daily with detailed information, images, data, and news. CTBUH has developed international standards for measuring tall building height and is recognized as the arbiter for bestowing such designations as “The World’s Tallest Building.” Learn more at www.ctbuh.org.
Antony Wood, Chief Executive Officer of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), knows a thing or two about urban growth. His professional career started in architecture, where he designed projects all over southeast Asia, and after joining CTBUH in 2006, he lectured at universities around the world. At the helm of CTBUH, he decreed the Burj Khalifa the “Tallest Building in the World” and has personally visited metropolitan cities in more than 80 countries. He has seen building development in every corner of the globe. So the question that begs to be asked is: How does Washington compare? In
Antony Wood, RIBA, PhD, became Chief Executive Officer of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat in 2006. Prior to this, he was CTBUH Vice Chairman for Europe and Head of Research. His tenure has seen a revitalization of CTBUH and an increase in output and initiatives across all areas. Based at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Antony is also a Research Professor in the College of Architecture and a visiting professor of tall buildings at Tongji Uni-versity Shanghai. Prior to joining the Council and IIT, Antony was an Associate Professor/Lecturer in Architecture at the University of Nottingham in the UK, where he was an active member of various research teams. He previously worked as an architect in practice in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and the UK. It was during this time he developed his passion for tall buildings. Antony lives in Oak Park, Illinois, with his wife and two children.
