Board of Education MeetingMay 8th, 2013
Presentation by Dr. Lonna Anderson
Our Focus Areas…
1 Create CRITICAL THINKERS
2. Provide opportunities for all students to learn at different rates and in different ways
3. Improving student growth and achievement to the best of our abilities
• Create a plan for enrichment services at the middle school level
– Research best practices in gifted services
– explore how comparable districts provide services
– develop recommendations for services
• During the 2012-13 school year, the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction will enhance 21st Century learning as measured by: 1) the implementation of the Common Core Math, English Language Arts and Literacy Standards, 2) a recommendation for enrichment services at the middle school level, 3) a plan for implementation of foreign language at the elementary level, and 4) the implementation of continuous improvement (8 components) within the K-12 classrooms.

• Services will:– be equitable between the middle schools– enrichment and honors curriculum will be the

between the middle schools at this time• DVMS may have cohorts within a literature section if
