SUMMER 2017

3

Webster Elementary, your neighborhood school, is grow-ing! We are excited to add 4th grade next year, making our school Pre-K through 4th grade for the 2017-18 school-year. We will be adding a physical education teacher next year so that students can have PE 3x/week along with keeping Spanish at 3x/week as well. Webster will be a busy place this summer with three programs in the building: Summer School, Sports Arts, and Minneapolis Kids. There are excit-ing things going on at Webster, and we hope you will join us for the fun. We are always glad to have volunteers to read with kindergartners, work on projects with older students, or join kids for our family-style dining for lunch.

Email [email protected] to learn more or to get started on volunteering.

Save the date for STAWNO’s annual Historic Riverfront 5k happening Saturday, Oct. 7th. The funds raised at this annual event help support the summer Dickman Park programming. Last year was a record year with +450 par-ticipants, and we look forward to breaking that record this year. Runners, walkers, strollers, and pets are all welcome to partake in one of the most historic and beautiful routes along the Mississippi River. Registration begins in July; check STAWNO.org for updates and sign-up link.

A big part of the job for a neighborhood organization is to build community by helping neighbors connect. Here in Saint Anthony West, we have a great tradition of bringing neighbors together through the summer program in the Park and then the 5k in in the fall. Both of these events connect hundreds of neighbors and help to showcase the community to visitors.

STAWNO is always interested in sharing stories about neighbor-hood heroes, special events, and good deeds. Contact us if you have a story to share.

Northeast Farmers MarketThe place to be on Saturday mornings is the Northeast Farmers Market. Open from 9 am to 1 pm, May through October, the market is located at the corner of University and 7th Street NE. Visit the market for fresh foods, gifts, flowers, or to meet a friend.

August 19 is STAWNO Day at the market. Stop by our table and chat with a neighborhood representative. Corn and Brat Feed also is on August 19th, a yummy time to celebrate community at the market.

More information is available at www.northeastmarket.org.

Alfred J. Hofstede CampusIn honor of his dedicated service and passion for seniors, the Catholic Eldercare campus is to be renamed after the late Al Hofstede. He had deep ties to northeast where he was raised and had a lifetime of public service accomplish-ments including being elected Mayor and co-founder of Catholic Eldercare. Al’s brother and sister in law, Tony and Diane, continue the family tradition of public service as members of STAWNO’s board.

Beat Cop at Dickman ParkAnother new feature is the “beat cop.” This officer is skilled in community relations and will attend all of the Thursday evening events. He is on special assignment from the 2nd Precinct as part of an effort to strengthen the relationship with our neighborhood. Mark your calendar too for the 6 pm picnic on July 13 because the Police Department will visit the Park with their horses and dogs.
