Volunteers Needed for Wreaths for Fallen Heroes

Saturday, December 14 Volunteers are needed to lay wreaths to honor our veterans who served at the Springfield National Cemetery at 1702 E. Seminole Street in Springfield. At this event, volunteers will decorate the headstones with a wreath to honor their service and sacrifice. Many of our fallen heroes headstones go undecorated each year. It is their mission to ensure that no hero is forgotten. The Greenwood J-Force Dance team will be handing out programs and will be leading the Pledge of Allegiance during the program again this year. We anticipate news coverage and over 500 in attendance. Middle school students can get Civitas Discendo hours.

Volunteers can arrive by 10:45 a.m. at the Springfield National Cemetery. The program begins at 11:00. There are over 22,000 graves at the National Cemetery. It would be great to know how many volunteers we will have from Greenwood. Volunteers can help for 2-4 hours. Sign up here! Their website is wreathsforfallenheroes.org. If you have other questions, you can contact Loretta Jean-Charles at 836-7667 or [email protected].
